People need to realize that high notes alone doesn't make a good vocalist, and someone who doesn't hit high notes often isn't a weak vocalist. Compared to the other members, Byul's high notes are not as high, but none of them can replicate her vocal control when it comes to lower register. She has such a soulful and emotional voice, her vocals are stable and she has amazing breath control. Moonbyul isn't just a rapper who can sing well, she is a vocalist qualified to be a vocalist.
I believe her tessitura is set lower compared to the rest of MAMAMOO (she’s like a low soprano to me). Also, in terms of technique, I do hear shallow support in her mid-range though inconsistent, and she does have decent/good coordination for someone of her own ability. ***EDIT: actually she could be a mezzo, she seems to have G3 down just fine lol.

They all entered on roughly equal grounds and then split at that point. She doubtless received some vocal training along the way, hence her ability to keep up when required of her, but she spent considerably more of her time on rap. If Kim Do-hoon wanted four vocalists, he would have had them and Byul would have been there the whole time.
Byul isn’t just a “good vocalist for a rapper” she is a good vocalist for a vocalist. The way so many kpop idols labelled as main vocals couldn’t do this. This isn’t shade to anyone at all in particular, she just deserves to own that vocalist title...

Most songs she released had a lower vocal register. Nothing like this, with full-on, belt-it-out parts or higher parts. So hearing full songs from her with a wider vocal range is really wonderful.

I’ve been a Mamamoo fan since the pandemic and as a former kpop fan (SNSD, 2ne1, Shinee, T-ara, Miss A era) I can say that these 4 girls really set up a high standard when it comes to gg. I’m glad I discovered them. They are all so talented and unique. Moonbyul really did great here. Wish she could have more parts in singing on their comeback. 💞
I've been a Kpop fan since 2010 (I am an ELF for Suju) even though until today, I can't say that I know all about Kpop. But I can say that I found it rare to see a member performing differently from their destined position in the group. Like Moonbyul, her position in Mamamoo are a rapper and a performer, but here she performs as a vocalist. There some who also do that, but usually the artist already out from the group.

You can cry listening to the song as you think about how many times Moonbyul wanted to show her voice, how much she has struggled to let go of her fear and insecurities about her vocals. She trained to be a vocalist and out of nowhere she was told that she would be the rapper of the group , she had to spend some time to find her place within the group , she spent performances standing for minutes while watching how the members performed , she fought against those who told her she didn't deserve to be in Mamamoo because she couldn't "sing" , she fought against herself in order to gain confidence in her voice again , she has fought a lot our Moonbyul and we can be proud of her. No one who doesn't know her story can appreciate what this means and will not cry over this cover and video.
I think thats the best song moonbyul has ever sang, It was so emotional and I was blown away by her voice. She is the most amazing human being ever and I'm so proud of her. Most songs she released had a lower vocal register. Nothing like this, with full-on, belt-it-out parts or higher parts. So hearing full songs from her with a wider vocal range is really wonderful.

I’ve been a Mamamoo fan since the pandemic and as a former kpop fan (SNSD, 2ne1, Shinee, T-ara, Miss A era) I can say that these 4 girls really set up a high standard when it comes to gg. I’m glad I discovered them. They are all so talented and unique. Moonbyul really did great here. Wish she could have more parts in singing on their comeback. 💞

I've been a Kpop fan since 2010 (I am an ELF for Suju) even though until today, I can't say that I know all about Kpop. But I can say that I found it rare to see a member performing differently from their destined position in the group. Like Moonbyul, her position in Mamamoo are a rapper and a performer, but here she performs as a vocalist. There some who also do that, but usually the artist already out from the group.

You can cry listening to the song as you think about how many times Moonbyul wanted to show her voice, how much she has struggled to let go of her fear and insecurities about her vocals. She trained to be a vocalist and out of nowhere she was told that she would be the rapper of the group , she had to spend some time to find her place within the group , she spent performances standing for minutes while watching how the members performed , she fought against those who told her she didn't deserve to be in Mamamoo because she couldn't "sing" , she fought against herself in order to gain confidence in her voice again , she has fought a lot our Moonbyul and we can be proud of her. No one who doesn't know her story can appreciate what this means and will not cry over this cover and video.

I think thats the best song moonbyul has ever sang, It was so emotional and I was blown away by her voice. She is the most amazing human being ever and I'm so proud of her. I remember how I feel listening to her sing for the first time in Starry Night and It means so much to me that she came this far.

Right? I was reminded again on twitter of moonbyulie confessing her troubles of being a rapper in such a powerhouse vocal group (that JYP Party People clip). But look at where we're at now. As a fan, I'm extremely proud that the artists I admire grow musically. The build up in her confidence is satisfying to see too.
