Actually when the movie was released this theme had no words, Pat Boone wrote them over 20 or 30 minutes at Christmas 1960. There have been a couple of changes since the original lyrics were composed: in the opening three lines, “ancient land” has been replaced place by “ golden land” and towards the end “and walk this golden land” replaced with “ lovely land”. The changes were done some 30 or more years ago. I have Andy William’s version with Boone’s original lyrics. Which I prefer.
I am a Christian but was very blest to have grown up in a very Jewish neighborhood. All my early childhood friends were Jewish and one of my most cherished mentors was a Jewish woman. I have great respect for Judaism and pray for Israel and Jews worldwide during these difficult times.

I never heard a racial or ethnic slur pass my father's lips. He was first generation born American after his parents emigrated from Slovakia in 1900. My work career has been peppered by Jewish men who were tough, but more than willing mentors. I don't understand the hatred for Jews. Even more so when it's couched in what passes for "religion;" as if anyone can know the mind of God. Nothing of today's crisis will end well and chances are it will repeat itself in another guise

These kids now need to learn about the Holocaust. I know going to school in the fifties and sixties don’t remember learning about it but started reading books about it after I graduated. Schindlers List should be shown to high school students, and the Diary of Anne Frank required reading in middle school.

I am a 70 years old Chinese, a Great Chinese Famine survivor and I also survived that “cultural revolution “ . But all the pains and sufferings , whether it’s physical or mental, spiritual, became part of me. I discovered this Exodus recently and found it incredibly soul touching. As a self taught piano player, I learned to play this master piece and play for the elderly people where I serve as a volunteer. I also played it on my cruise trips. I can listen to this over and over again. And in my mind, as I was absorbed in this magnificent music, I see those 36000000 people who died of starvation between 1958 to 1962. I was 8 years old when that catastrophe ended in 1962. Exodus not only let you feel sadness, suffering, and human misery, it most importantly gives you hope and inspiration. Life is beautiful. Thank you for sharing.

Its a beautiful song. I 0:50 3:06 recall it being played on the radio when I was a kid..the movie is " exodus " is worth seeing. Sad how towards the end..the character played by paul newman...is told by his devoted childhood muslim friend. Something to the effect, you have a homeland, and we lost ours.
