    I would absolutely adore to see an animated version of Dune. Even Jodorowsky said that it would be possible and that he would be down for the idea, even after his death! I hope I live to see Jodorowsky's Dune animated at least. If not, well, the "movie never made" charm will never go away.

    Knowing that Frank Herbert wanted Jodorowsky to bring his own entirely unique artistic vision to Dune (and in essence make his own Dune) raises my respect for the man. It's rare for an author to be comfortable with that level of freedom when somebody else has control of their work.

    • @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa
      @aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa 2 ปีที่แล้ว +51

      He was very open minded about how people approached dune, he obviously had some doubts and held his breath regarding Jodorowsky's explicitly anti-catholic take on Dune, but it's funny how he never really fought about it, he was very present when David Lynch did his version, and has gone on record that he absolutely enjoyed the final result, minus the ending.
      For an artist or a writer, it helps to have that kind of detachment to your work, because then it means you get to enjoy and appreciate other people's interpretations of your material, also because he probably knew that nothing could ever replace his novels and their impact.

    • @andrewbatts7678
      @andrewbatts7678 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont care, he literally wanted to "rape" frank herbert! He cared nothing for the integrity of the novel. Vomiting a bonus pack of crayola crayons onto a he-man playset would have been more faithful to dune

    • @RogueBoyScout
      @RogueBoyScout 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @@aquelescaraaaaaaaaaa It's so great to hear that there are other like minded people who get and respect that the Dune films, both Denis and David's, are an "interpretation" and vision of how they saw the Book.
      I'm so tired of hearing from the Dune fanatics about how a) The films stray from the book, as if the only way to treat the work is by pure facsimile. And b) "The Books are unfilmable". What does that even mean.
      (I also find it humorous that most of them will allow Kubrick that pleasure with his version of The Shining, The Short Timers, ect ect).
      Finally, if all we get is the exact same story with a new coat of paint/effects, then what is the point? That might work for computer games, but with a few exceptions, video games for the most part are still more interactive entertainment, as opposed to an art/craft.
      (And before anyone starts, I hold video games up in very high regard when done right. Some games have moved me more than a lot of modern film. But despite the logistics/productive similarities, the end goals for film and gaming differentiate due to the very nature of how the product is consumed.)

There is, of course, corruption and injustice in the world, but whether or not that stuff is perpetrated a single, world wide secret society hell bent on enslaving humanity, that's debatable, to say the least. LoL No it does not need to be made. He has enough of his own money to take all the original ideas & make an animated web series from it, call it Messiah Planet. If he really wanted to make it, it would have been made by now, somehow. He just keeps blaming studios that wisely did not want to spent at least $5 million on a 20 hour X rated movie.

    • @davisfan

      I frankly believe it can, and eventually will get made. I don't really think Jorodowsky would want to work in it, though. His Metabarons comics are very obviously inspired by the Dune script, and to be honest, they are superior. I think he has outgrown that script. If we get an animated version, it will probably be made by others.

      And A.I. has to be ready to be 1,000% to create every detail in every scene in its 1973-1975 vintage grainy glory. And lastly a soul in the film, whether through only voice acting or some other creative way

      @@Mythologos Why make a stupid webserie ? All of this Dune is already in the books of Jodorowsky and Moebius...
      Even if he had the money, making it today would have no sense, even more if it is to make a tv show lol.. that would be pitiful.
      And most of them are dead anyway, Orson welles, Dali, Carradine, Demuth, Moebius, Giger, all the sfx team is dead...
      it would've break everything if it came out back then, but today people are too dumb to see a movie so strange and particular, too close minded, even more than when it was suppose to came out.
      Villeneuve's Dune is great for our modern day though, grounded, simple, realistic, two part so people with small attention span can watch it.. it's great
      Just by knowing the pain it has been for starwars to be done and to came out, and how the star wars from today looks... Dune could'nt be done back then and shouldn't be done today.. too ambitious for an era and too out of the norm for another

Either the film succeeded, and Sci Fi had a major boost, or it flopped, and producers became wary of the genre. It it flopped, perhaps Alien and Blade Runner, which had a lot of input from Jodorowsky's Dune team, wouldn't have been greenlit by their studios. I like the minds behind the idea of Dune... they implemented the whole philosophy of what Frank Herbert intended... they implemented all the habits to their life and this is the best you can do... a movie that's never finished holds the gap open to dream - to make new ideas - to set new creations in the future... a drawing is never finished at all, nor perfect enough to set things clearly to one exactly way how something should be done... it always leaves a gap for open minded and new ideas! That's exactly the magic behind Jodorowsky's ideas to Dune! And that Jodorowsky's Dune has never been done is the best what could happen! ...and so shall be! "In the future we won't see the movie with our eyes - but with our assh**es there will be F***ng 3 Dimensions!" :'D GREAT!

      @@dancegregorydance6933 It wouldn't have been an adaptation. It would've been a self-contained story _based_ on the book. Adaptations are boring. Lynch's approach was in the right direction. Jodorowsky would've likely brought this tendency to a conclusion.
      After watching Dune 1984 and the newest one, I came to the realization that in order to make the Dune story compelling and sparkling, the creators have to be audaciously provocative, extraordinarily original with the emanating sense of paradoxical freakishness, the subtle sense of grotesque, exquisite cruelty and perversion, which only can make Dune not to seem like a byproduct of strained efforts to prove you can do SciFi by "following the source material" , gift-wrapped in grayish look-how-modernly_awesome_they-are SFX and impressive imagery. Dune is enfolded in surrealistic quasi-hallucinogenic undertones constituting a very naive arc. Only its sequels expose the Machiavellian rhyme.
      When you do the arc, Dune gets boring. That's Villeneuve.
      I won't watch the new Dune anymore. Lynch's, I will. In fact, I have watched it twice this month. I also had great pleasure with the Children of Dune miniseries.

    I've recently seen Dune 2021 for the first time and also watched the documentary about "Jodorowskys Dune that has never been made"
    The 2021 version was a good movie, beautiful pictures, but nowhere near genius. It's a movie you watch and go "oh that was good" at the end. It's not something you get goosebumps after just thinking about it. Jodorowskys idea was far beyond just having a good weekend activity at the cinema and going home after living life as you did before. His vision was to change the entire world and I seriously believe that a movie can achieve this. Stil waiting for a movie that can achieve that.

    28:00 he goes on a rant about producers (the people who put up the money to make the films) how he feels they are not needed, not wanted and that they should die ... who then will make his films? The films that are too long, over budget and out of control. He claims Producers have big egos? I guess he's never looked in a mirror at his own ego.

    • @metallicblood
      @metallicblood 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      His reasons divide him from the producers he talks about (if he is sincere with us). While producers drive a business, mainly in order to gain money, creators are mainly driven by their visions to make art. Their motives are different, I think.

    • @silversnail1413
      @silversnail1413 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Because producers are businessmen who monopolize the industry. Most of them have no creative instincts whatsoever and they basically act like pirates, with little respect whatsoever for the wishes of the artist. They kill and absorb and negate smaller projects so they can churn out garbage. Jodorowsky has not always been financed by producers. John Lennon and Yoko Ono put up the money for his film The Holy Mountain, so it is highly possible to make great films outside of a studio system. Artists can fund other artists but producers and big business get in the way, and it's especially daunting when you're talking about Dune. The scope and size of the project requires major studio backing and a large budget but studio interference results in a watered down version meant to appeal to a large mass audience. They want Dune to be Star Wars, all action and no philosophy. Lynch's version of Dune was a mess because the studio screwed it up. Villeneuve's version was just too safe and sanitized, visually bland and took no risks. A lot of Dune purists hate the idea of Jodorowsky's Dune and are glad it wasn't made but I think it would have been fascinating just to see a no holds barred big budget sci-fi art film with some truly insane imagery and ideas. Kubrick's adaptation of The Shining wasn't faithful to the novel at all but today it's recognized as one of the greatest horror films of all time. Perhaps Jodorowsky's Dune would be viewed in a similar way if it ever came to pass.

  • @Kaghemsuha
    @Kaghemsuha 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I was perplexed about the Jodorowsky's capacity to o this film; after watching Villeneuce's Dune part 2 I AM sure th3 Jodo was the only one able to do that movie; Villeneuve's film is visually intriguing but it has nothing to do with the real Dune novel ( I read it three times).
