Another much safer way to observe the workings of an elevator is just to go to a glass elevator in a public building (i.e. Garage, mall, metro) and look through the glass.
This was very interesting. Thank you for filming this. I did enjoy the full speed camera ride. It really showed the speed of this elevator. Keep up the great videos!
Great demo and video! Seeing elevators behind the scenes is always awesome. I got to see a machine room and pit of a Dover Oildraulic in Oregon with a hotel chief engineer. Also, during the school year, some kids got stuck in the school elevator, and I kept the students inside calm over the intercom and provided some instruction to staff and the fire department. The fire department didn't have the proper key, but I did. Unfortunately, however, the key wouldn't have worked as the students triggered the governor on the elevators. Nonetheless, I was happy to help with the rescue in any way that I did, and I was recognized at graduation for my role by the science chair. That was a great experience...
sadly this building is now abandoned since habitat for humanity has moved to a new location, and this elevator is permanently out of service. RIP TK Isis elevator. 2009-2016
Can't believe the US is still using the old fashioned tricky crappy drop key. Now there's a new invention called triangle key, which gets you into most lifts in the UK. Even drop keys are banned on Lazada (online shopping platform). There are triangle keys that are on sale for a cheap price, plus, using the triangle key is very easy, instead of spinning around the completely fucked drop key hole.
On top of the elevator car if I was working on it I would bring a fan to plug it on the car top station since the building does not have air conditioning
Full traction elevators have huge buildings on top of the building which stores an even bigger wheel 3x as big and those types of elevators can go up to 18 m/s (the one in the video is MRL traction and only goes 1 m/s).
He already said 'DO NOT ATTEMPT' many times on every of his (Dieselducy) lift surfing. Only professionals do that. NOT simply ride by anyone, unprofessional, unauthorized and without permissions from the building owner.
Sometimes labeled "access" or "Hoistway Enable". Not sure which code year; it has to be fairly recent. , This feature is in addition to the car top inspection switch found on older elevators. The key switch is typically found at the top and bottom landing.
It’s known as hoistway access. But first you go into the elevator and turn on inspection mode with the key switch on the panel and then you go outside of the elevator and use Hoistway access
@@JordanLoweElevaToursCanada But if you don't do that first, can you simply send the elevator one floor below you, then open the doors with the drop key and put it into inspection from the car top control station and move ?
I've ridden a cartop with full speed once. And plus, why would I have to get permission? It seems really stupid. I wouldn't surf that if I've got permission. Doing it without permission seems to be very fun and when going on full speed, nobody cares.
You may want to edit out 2:15 to 5:00. In it you reveal what you said you would not reveal about getting into the hoistway. If anyone views this, DO NOT ATTEMPT THIS, ESPECIALLY WITHOUT PERMISSION AND SUPERVISION FROM A TRAINED ELEVATOR TECH. It can be VERY DANGEROUS and could expose you to CRIMINAL CHARGES.
I have a DANGER to say: If you're opening the door with a drop key and the elevator is downstairs, NEVER and I mean EVER jump down the shaft! The result could = falling through the elevator.
I always did a elevator safety breaker because I was opening the doors

Jon Rogers I do that in Baltimore they have the glass elevators I’m not sure what kind though
Also known as a scenic elevator
Yeah, but most of those types of elevators hide the electronics and mechanical bits with metal panels.

+SeminoleVators which one?
Yes
Thanks for posting. This is way cool to see.
This is awesome!
PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE THE Lift Engineer use the lift key thanks for your note...
I've been waiting to see this footage
At least Dieselducy is smart and gets permission first before he surfs :)

TK ISIS was discontinued in 2007

Andrew: I'm Not Going To Show How To Get In The Hoistway
Me: You Just Had Your Key In..And Showed Us..
This is how many time he says (before I get started)
👇
Andrew, I know you're concerned with safety, so do hope there was a 2nd person off camera in case of injury or accident.
There is one of these near me and I know that it is a bottom drive mrl, so this is really interesting to see in detail how it works.
16:17 you going to floor 4
Thank god ThyssenKrupp discontinued the kevlar ropes.
Agreed
Looks like DieselDucy is becoming Beno.
Especially with the "Detailed Look" part.
+MishiniOtzetz Channel I only do stuff with permission
Doing it with permission is boring. I would walk away from any lift that I got permission to surf.
***** I understand, but it still just has the whole Beno feel to it. Not that that's a bad thing.
***** Lol! Have you ever been caught? Seems unlikely that you would get away with surfing so many lifts and never get spotted.
4:54 testing safety, I'm guessing.
during the full speed part i hear clicks while the elevator is moving. what are those clicks?
On top of the elevator car if I was working on it I would bring a fan to plug it on the car top station since the building does not have air conditioning
And I have no idea why the door gaps are so wide. Probably made from US?
There is a sump pump in the pit so it is unlikely to flood
what makes you think its thyssen ? it has gal door gear and an optical tape head i dont recognise anything thyssen about it.
Khaledjan loves talking tom
What will happen to the classic Otis there? And it also seems a waste putting a new lift out of service so soon
it will fall
one method of cartop movement is pushing ENABLE and one of UP or DOWN.
that's awesome now I know how a elevator works

Me too
It was hot in the shaft because of the warmth of the light.
I heard Kone is buying out Krupp

De get
Ok boomer
This video is probably demontized by spam bots 😢
Safety is our top priority
are you showing us you to enter a elevator pit ?
In the edited video, that part is filtered out. DO NOT attempt anything in the video unless supervised by an elevator technician
@VERNONBLVJSCSONAVUNE On the 7 train and 6 train He may be trained to enter a hoistway/pit
WHAT IS THAT KEYSWITCH THAT MAKES THE ELEVATOR LEVEL UP AND DOWN?

Brian Moody
Do you know if the cartop controls would work if the in-car "inspection service" keyswitch has not been enabled first ?

Danger: do not try this anywhere (2)
I looked at the hoistway of a Traction Dover today, the only difference was...I was on the other side of the glass. 😆
I've always wanted to do something like this
I got to look inside a lift shaft with a ThyssenKrupp engineer I wouldt do it on my own
42:31 looks like a motor inverter to me.

it was seen by tails g
hey drew don't drop the key

Temple 92 somehow I don't think elevator cars are hollow
