    That's really clever that you use a bunch of parallel teleport lines for different destinations. I didn't realize if a monster was on the destination, it would block the teleport line from working.

    Nice opinion, one small issue, you forgot to mention that if it's map30, monsters will telefrag each other, and it's better to make individual teleports and destination for each monster. That's the reason i got here, i was trying to figure out wtf am i doing wrong. But yeah, mostly guide is great.

    Teleporting flying enemies into certain height is neat, gonna use that approach from now on. Thanks for the video.

    I have no plans to make maps but I’m still really glad youtube randomly recommended this channel to me. Didn’t even know you had a separate mapping channel.

    I never knew you could set sector tags fast like that. Very helpful!

    Holy shit the trick with getting flying enemies to spawn out of the sky with relative height is genius I didn't know how to do that in PRBoom until now. Fantastic thank you!

    I just do a box with a door or a lowering floor that surrounds the entire thing with teleport tags

    Thanks so much for this! I just got one question; is there a way that when you shoot, the monster doesn't make any noise when activated? So it's not spoiled at the start?

    • @a1smapping593
      @a1smapping593  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you want to surprise the player, you should probably make them get triggered some other way. Usually, I liked it better if I could put the player in a situation that they had no choice but to shoot, and let that be the sound that wakes everything up in the closets instead of just a generic shoot switch. Or maybe the first fight in the map is one where all the enemies are just visible and when you fight them, that wakes everything else up in the map and u can surprise them that way. With enough mapping, you'll start to see what you like and dislike and probably achieve what you want.

      @@a1smapping593 Yeah, I saw that I could make my way around that. You see, the thing I was trying to do was to spawn in the Spider-Mastermind. But what I didn't know was that the Cyberdemon and the Mastermind are the only demons whose sounds are heard global. Don't hear anyone else but those two across the map. These are some of things I wish I knew, but it's nice to learn the hard way sometimes, especially with mapping. Cheers for taking the time!

    • @a1smapping593
      @a1smapping593  ปีที่แล้ว

      you can edit the sound priority in dehacked if the surprise is really important. Then all spiders and cybers could be like normal. I hopefully mentioned it in my dehacked vid@@Oweniyo

    Can you clarify why conveyor belts shouldn't be used as said in desc? I'd imagine a fast scroll floor with 2 silent tp lines on both ends and tp line into destination + monsters in the middle would work consistently enough, or is that overcomplicated and would somehow fail?

    • @a1smapping593
      @a1smapping593  2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Uh i havent tried making any closets with conveyors. Theres likely a good way of doing it, but they can skip teleport lines and you will have to deal with that. Sounds like compensating that is more complex than what ive shown here

    • @emmaessex
      @emmaessex 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      the biggest issue with this is handling their arrival - one monster is OK on a conveyor belt, but if there are two coming on the conveyor belt and they aren't yet awake, the second one won't be able to teleport in since the first one's occupying the space and it'll have to get out of the way first. if they are already awake, the conveyor belt will just cram them all toward the front of the sector and they'll have to putz around until they're able to teleport. since monsters can't get out of the way of a teleport location any faster than they can walk, pushing them with a conveyor is ultimately a lost cause.

      @@emmaessex Conveyor teleports have a strong use case if, for some reason, you want to teleport monsters that are still asleep. You can also do that by pushing them with exploding barrels (that are set off with a crusher, for example), but then they'll be damaged.

    • @kinetic03
      @kinetic03 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      conveyor teleport closets can have their uses if you know what you're doing, spawning in monsters in specific locations in a tight sequence could be really cool and most reliably done with conveyors

    • @savarin_yt
      @savarin_yt 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use conveyors when I want to spawn one monster or multiple monsters in different locations, without needing to wake them up. It's convenient because you don't need to account for the direction of the AI, and you can make a small system of re-teleportation on the conveyor closet itself that keeps trying to teleport them until it succeeds.
      Now, if you want to keep a consistent stream of teleports from the same source (which is a very cool effect), then definitely the best bet are the ones shown in the video!
