Thank you all for listening to this ridiculous recording of my composition 'Volcanic Ash' by the Sinta Quartet! More information and payment links can be found on my website: www.hassmusic.com/chamber/volcanicash
my quartet is learning this for solo ensemble and lemme tell u those arpeggios with the tenor and bari are NOT A JOKE (edit: UPDATE, we earned Division 1 at both regional and state solo & ensemble with this piece. we had a high school freshman who filled in for our alto who dropped on about 2.5 months notice. she worked diligently to learn the piece and performed incredibly with us seniors, earning the nickname “bionic freshman” from the judge at regionals. This piece is great memory and a great accomplishment for all of us.
@@Kachigaz The back in forth actually make it easier. I think in this piece it's for range purposes, but composers typically split figures like that up between parts, especially in the band setting.
in ways it's easier, in other ways it's harder. For less experienced people getting that level of coordination and timing down is much much harder theoretically than just hitting the rights notes. @@gdbyzantryx810
Thanks man! I actually recently wrote music for a documentary about Japanese kamikaze pilots. It's still being edited, but should be released this fall!
Hi. My saxophone quartet will be performing this for Highschool Solo & Ensemble. Would it be ok for me to upload a recording of us playing it once we perform?
Chris Hass Hi again. Sorry it took so long, but we finally performed Volcanic Ash if you’d like to hear what we have so far. We’re definitely not done working on it, as it’s not perfect, but it’s a start
Reynaldo Palacios I did upload it, but later decided to remove it simply because it wasn’t a great performance. If you’d still like to hear it, it was posted by our alto player as well th-cam.com/video/xz3TVjDjDYU/w-d-xo.html
The quality sound at 5:27 surely is because of the caliber of the instrument because these guys nailed this...need a 12000 sax for the guy playing that high note please and thanks 😊😊😊😊
I know im like 6 years late but this is my favorite sax quartet and ive been looking for the sheet music for this exact arrangement you guys played but i cant find it. Please i would love it if you could get back to me. Btw you guys sounded absolutely amazing.
Daniel Hawthorne-Foss oh that's cool, thanks for the reply! I play on a vandoren v16 b7 but I've heard great things about the c*. Quick question, what's up with many sax players having a different colored neck compared to the rest of their saxophone?
Some people tend to feel a difference with different materials -- I believe Tim McAllister has a video of himself on youtube going to some Selmer factory and trying out a bunch of different necks to see which one sounds the best and gives the most overtones.
Daniel Hawthorne-Foss what was one of the harder parts when you were putting this song together? i’m in high school and i recently got this song and would like to play it for a competition in april
What a great job you did with the most obnoxious instrumentation possible. Did you lose a bet? Cool song bro. 2:30 I had to check it was still the same song. I see what it is now. You hate musicians. And @ 4:55 the audience too.

Does this include a score and all parts? Or is this just a score or just the parts?
Gaurav Sarangi All of the above!
This is such a great piece but why is is double the price of some quartets?
One of the best examples of modern classical saxophone composing

Not at all!! Best of luck on the performance!
So... how’d it go?
how did it go... 3 years later..?
Try the chromatics for the soprano
I’m so excited to this piece this year 🥰
Ah, man, this is one of the pieces that first roped me into the world of classical saxophone
Glad I could be such a positive influence! 😂
Good lord that bari and tenor have good tone and coordination together, insane
3:43 the soprano part here is absolutely insane
ikr bruhhh that'd be so hard
its actually the soprano and the alto going back in forth which is WAY WAY Harder

There has never been a song more deserving of the phrase "goes hard"
The players are so connected it’s great😍
I’ve actually seen them live before! It was so cool!!
Świetne zgranie. Szacunek artystyczny!
Honestly sounds like a Super Mario Galaxy piece.
My exact thought
Something on a boss level
I almost imagine it like a castle level in Mario bros
Why does the Bari look like superman
Awesome piece of music. At the top of my favorite for sax quartet pieces rn!
Thank you so much! That means a lot!!

Love Joe Girard (tenor sax) he’s helped me in college and high school. Best player I know🤞
Lots of long notes for that baritone. damn.... huge sound!
I love these kinds of more modern sax quartets, and want to write one myself. Any tips for a beginner composer?
Arpeggiate jazz chords
Wow!
Genuinely astounded by both the caliber of the musicians performing this, and the piece itself
Well done👏🏽👏🏽
Thank you so much! Yeah, this group is incredible. They make the piece sound easy!
Hoping to program this for my senior recital in October!
That'd be fantastic! Let me know how it goes!

What’s the beautiful chord at 2:58
Nothing special, just a VI chord in F minor (Db major). It only stands out because we haven't had a major chord with the full quartet yet.
Tbh idk what a 11 yea old watching this is doing because my band director told me to listen to it because I play the sax
yuh
Are the Alto and Soprano sax parts at 3:06 written in the music, or are they improv?
They are playing the written part but there is an option to improv
Improv
Some people combine the 2, meaning they do some of the written portion and improvise
