something like this genuinely could happen. At least to me the weird route looks like it could lead to a light world genocide route in the later chapters. Which would be exceptionally brutal considering the loss of magic
and the final boss is either gonna be Susie or Ralsei probably, depending on which one of the two takes the role of mid-route bossfight (just like Undyne does in UNDERTALE)

I don’t think it would be the underground but i definitely do think hometown will be in a dark world on the day of the festival. It’s the perfect time to create a fountain there, as everyone will be too distracted to chase the knight
I actually think it would be fitting (and sort of poetic) if upon defeating all the secret bosses in previous chapters, sans would be the final secret boss on the last chapter. think of it like a long trip that gives you crumbs about gaster, with every secret boss having some connection with him, then it ends with the last one being someone DIRECTLY tied to him. and unlike in undertale, here, sans doesn't fight you for punishment, but just as a warning. to make you stop fussing around and trying to discover things about gaster. to discourage you from digging too deep. as a warning, from friend to friend, because he knows it could end poorly for the whole world if things escalate too far. and considering every boss has a theme of freedom, it would be nice to have the last one be someone who can never truly feel free due to his knowledge (in some level) about save files and resets and such. someone who feels nothing is worth trying due to this lack of freedom.

i rediscovered this remix after a while... i don't think my original comment did it enough justice, so, here's a new one! i think this is the most epic MEGALOVANIA remix i've heard to date, and i've heard _a lot._ this really just *sounds* like it'd be the theme for the final boss of a "genocide" run in deltarune. it's the music that plays when you fight someone who's seen everyone around him get killed, and he knows you've killed *many* more in the other dark fountains, and he *knows* the fate of the entire world is weighing on his shoulders... and he's not letting you take control, even if he has to fight to his Last Breath. i really hope toby puts something like that with music that sounds like this into deltarune ch7, it'd be so so cool. idk how you did it, but you did it good xP this remix is heavily underrated!

This song would be perfect for deltarune's genocide route, not only does it keep the final hope and final battle feeling to it, but it also includes dont forget, deltarunes main theme (i think) and right after a (what i would call it) final hope attack, the last attempt, i love it
