      @@Whoknows21356 The points buffs/nerfs are not nearly enough to impact the armies who lost A.O.C. All that S5+ Ap-2, Dmg 2 weaponry every army can spam will just delete the struggling armies like SM. Not much point in taking an extra squad of troops when they are deleted twice as fast. Votann will be doubly hard to beat, Nids/Quins( Aledari in general)/CSM (particularly EC, BL) will still be top after this.

      @@Happy-zg4zd interesting examples you pick, personally I think those were three reasonably decent changes. Flamers couldn't keep a 3++ Vs shooting and retain auto-hitting, it made countering them far too difficult, and the unit needed it's damage output reducing anyway. Necrons, the obsec dynasty stuff was always obnoxious, it was just clearly better than any other option and wasn't very enjoyable to play against. The flyer change does invalidate a few flyers (goodbye voidraven bombers), but anything that slaps down alpha strikes is good for the game.

    • @Happy-zg4zd
      @Happy-zg4zd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samhunter1205 the flamer stuff was just too cost efficient, slap huge points costs and it could be solved without removing the one ability flamers are known for, necron obsec could have been, you cant get pre game move when picking obsec, not just yeeting the code, and flyers change fucked everyone that didnt abuse them

    • @samhunter1205
      @samhunter1205 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Happy-zg4zd wrong on all counts. No unit should have a 3++ Vs shooting and an overwatch attack that powerful, it is too punishing to certain factions and does not leave enough room for counterplay. Either the save had to be worsened or the auto-hitting had to go. For Necrons, the obsec crap combined with ridiculous secondaries was holding the faction back, you couldn't reduce the cost of units like warriors while that existed. For flyers, they are inherently abusive - they could reach anywhere on the board turn 1, alpha strikes are cancer to the game and need to go. This change, combined with free strategic reserves actually makes flyers less swingy. They can't do dumb alpha strikes, but they have some in-built protection if you end up going second. Bombers lose out, but good riddance, they were too obnoxious anyway.

    25:19 GW has a long history of costing chaos units this way. They typically cost more than their loyalist counterparts because they MIGHT get crazy good buffs. This is a large reason why CSM models have often been worse than their loyalist counterparts. As for the "why" of them costing the unit and not just the buffing model/powers... I've no clue.

      I mean it makes the difference between them being viable or not, the point difference is worth it, yeah. You either have an effective barrage of upgraded lascannons or you have a big pile of whiff that cost you an 8th of your list just sitting there.
      It's just another example of why factions should not be 1 for 1 in points costs. They should be asymmetrically balanced because they are asymmetrical armies.

    Regarding the wraithguard d-scythes, within the Craftworlds community it’s been said that they have more potential than you’d think, since 6s to wound do mortal wounds and they can make a lot of attacks. The synergy is that you fish for the 6 with doom and/or Ulthwe’s wound reroll, as well as strands of fate dice if you really want to push it. I’ve heard some people have had a lot of success with them at tournaments (though my personal experience has been that they’re inconsistent). Maybe GW is trying to prevent those strategies from being more commonly played

    • @kyleroach-smith1291

      if you want mortals as craftworlds there are SOOOO many better ways of doing it without 45ppm for a terminator style model with a 3+ save and no invuln. black templars actually feel pretty good coming out these changes. The primaris crusader squads being cheap (even cheaper than intercessors and assault intercessors!) and with completely free wargear means they can be used in large groups way more, especially now that the black templar army wide 5++ invuln has more value again. BT vehicles now also get their multi-melta for free, making a BT gladiator reaper excellent at mulching light infantry while packing a multi-melta for anti-tank AND having a 5++ invuln all for cheap. Black templars already liked having storm shield units thanks to the squad relics, and these shields now have way more value (especially with assault terminator squads now getting thunder hammers for free). Other units that black templars love like inceptors, eradicators, aggressors and even suppressors went down in points as well. @@chashtag2336 Pound for pound, there are no real single Tyranid entries in their dex that are more or less powerful than the enemy counterparts all things considered. It's just that their playstyle rewards the objectives of the game while still making them combat viable. Advancing onto objective points to force opponents to come to you has always been a cornerstone of the tyranid playstyle. It's just that they can spread their forces across the board so effectively and field a large variety of options in comparison to other armies that makes them hard to deal with as a whole.
      Prime example = Walking Tyrant with bog standard loadout (HVC + LW&BS) comes in at 195pts for T8, 12W and a 2+/4++ save. 30 termagaunts with FB comes in at 210pts for T3, 30W and a 5+ save. Back both units up with a min unit of Venomthropes for 105pts (120pts after dataslate) for T5, 12W with a 4+ save and pretty much makes the entire amount of stuff on the board -1 to hit at range. Suddenly you have 3 units with vastly different statistics, all providing a specific role that will require vastly different firepower or battlefield counters to easily remove. If the game developers wanted to make their game fully viable at the competitive level, they would take a page out of the Malifaux or Warmachine book and allow competitive tournaments to allow players to field 1 of 2 lists at a tournament so that they aren't fully hamstrung into playing a single list into allcomers, be they hoard armies with boadloads of bodies that they don't have enough firepower to deal with small heavily armoured elite armies that they can't punch through before they roll over you.

    Space Marine player opinion:
    Loss of AoC: AoC was exactly the buff that was needed but was also a very problematic rule as it disproportionately affects AP-1 which is often an important buff (e.g. doctrines) for some factions that becomes irrelevant. Moreover, it disrupts internal balance in regard to storm shields. I think it needed to go but so does the over-proliferation of easy access to AP. They seem to be doing one and not the other which seems to be repeating the mistakes of the past (a theme)
    Combat Doctrines: This is reverted to the original rule that was biased in favour of devastator-focused chapters and proved problematic. Again, repeating the mistakes of the past. I think allowing up to two turns in the Devastator doctrine before progressing to tactical (much like tactical already has a choice of one or two before moving to assault) would have been better. This also nerfs most backwards doctrine manipulation abilities - especially Dark Angels' supreme tacticians (again, a theme) - by making them less important to boosting key units.
    Sticky objectives: don't care. It only seems useful if you want the troops to go and do something which you probably don't - they're sufficiently underwhelming to being best suited for objective camping, anyway. Ravenwing might be able to move fast enough to sticky objectives quicker than other factions can clear them which, in fairness, potentially introduces a fun new play style but...
    Doublewing dead: big nerf to Dark Angels from a competitive perspective
    Points drops: I don't like this extreme rebalancing just using points - it doesn't tend to work. The key question, in my eyes, is 'does the unit do the job?'. Eradicators have always done their job too well and their previous points rise only served to make people jump to attack bikes that also do the same job too well; conversely, Reivers don't serve a purpose and making them dirt cheap barely gives them one. Moreover, if all (or most) points come down that effectively reduces the resolution of the game in distinguishing the relative strengths of units. Increasing everyone else's points would have been better than dropping ours.

Now, drones are cheap enough to contest farther than the middle of the board, especially since one GUO is usually a supporting one and can take the bell to resurrect 1/turn.
    Cheap Pleaguebearers is awesome with the sticky objectives, and secondary changes that allow for extra CP to be gained by using troops. Plus the Despoilers change allows for gaining warpstorm points on top of that. I can easily see Nurgle being semi-competitive at this rate

    *Gurgling praises wail from the throats of the assembly at the mention of the sacred wheel, arms raised to the skylights facing a Blood Moon night sky*
    Matt turns heel toward the far wall with a crimson drape shrouding an object on a stone dais.
    In a single motion, Matt Ward draws the drape off in a flourish revealing a stained wooden pinwheel adorned with runes and arcane symbols.
    *The gurgling cries and wails from the shareholders and writing staff amplifies as the Crimson Glow of the moon deepens, drowning the chamber in its bloody shadow*
    Matt Ward reaches within the bulging folds of his pocket protector, extracting a bottle of Nuln Oil. Extending his free left hand he grips the gnarled edge of the Pinwheel and yanks downward, setting it into a roaring cackling spin. The nail posts echoing on the pointer like the teeth of hungry customers awaiting their next morsel.
    At the apex of the reveling cries of suits, interns, writers and the shareholders in the shadows. Matt tears open and casts the bottle of Nuln oil over the Spinning wheel as it comes to a slow dripping stop.
    The room comes to a sudden tranquility as all voices ceased their praises.
    "What does it say" Voices whisper as they lean to get a better observation of the ritual's conclusion.
    Matt Ward quickly consults the charts scrawled over the fleshworkers tapestry on the adjacent wall. Some spots still glistening fresh from the last customers who complained about their pricing model too close to their headquarters.
    "Exterminatus" Matt utters under his breath.
    "What was that?" an Executive calls out.
    "EXTERMINATUS!!!!!!" Matt Cries, Pleasure Oozing from his expression.
    "SUFFER NOT THE XENOS TO LIVE!!!!!" The assembly chants in union. Over and over again.

    Ork POV:
    If you're fielding boyz, you might as well take your max big shootas, they're now free. Won't significantly hurt your melee output, and it will give you a tiny bit of shooting if you wind up in a position where you don't need to advance to be useful.
    Nobz units are still probably garbage, but they do get free power stabbas and big choppas now and discounts on many other things, so maybe some madman can make 17 ppm melee nobs with one of those and offhand choppas. Other standouts are 22 ppm klaw/saw + choppa, or for real excess 27 ppm double-saw nobs. Doubt any of those do the job, but it's one of the biggest changes we got.
    Painboyz at 60 ppm is a bit more attractive for decently-armed minor character and a small 6+++ bubble. Maybe worth doing if you've got a couple of foot mobs to protect with him, but it's iffy unless you're trying bigger units than are in fashion.
    Flash gitz at 20 ppm are still fragile and need a vehicle/bunker to hide in, but 200 pts to double tap a max unit with Showing Off is hell of a lot more interesting than 250 was.
    The Gork/Mork superheavy walkers are both down 35 ppm, about 10% off. Still don't seem good, but the silly Arks force org chart make sthem less painful to field so maybe we'll see some.
    Surprise winner of the update: Killa kans. Going to 30 ppm base makes them very similar to meganobz for melee output point-for-point, and they have some shooting (which keeps right on working in melee) to boot. Dropping their rokkits to 10 pts is a lot better too, but still doesn't impress me as efficient. Stick to either 30 ppm big shoota kans or 35 ppm skorcha kans and try them in place of a meganob unit and see how it works out. Take them in groups of five and pray to Gork (or possibly Mork) when it comes to morale, you want that extra attack from Scrag 'Em to last a bit but going to six just rewards blast weapons too much and you really aren't all that tough. AT tends to overvalue ramshackle quite a lot given how few attack profiles it actually helps with.

      @bryal so it should be but the only difference between a standard Chaos Terminator and Imperial Terminator is the melee weapon they come with. In a way it does balance out, you get an extra attack and strength for the Accursed weapon -3 ap and 1D and for the power fist you -1 to hit but get double strength, -3 ap and 2D. If you put a barebones squad from each side against each other with no buffs, I'd put my money on the space marine terminators winning. And that's coming from a Chaos player. Broadsides can't benefit from any buffs, which makes them extremely swingy. Stealth suits cost too much, Breachers in Devilfish cost too much, Strike Teams aren't great, Hammerheads are extremely swingy, Skyrays are expensive for what they do, Ghostkeel are way too expensive, Piranhas are useless, fliers were just nerfed hard, Stormsurges cost a ton and aren't that tough. IDK. Crisis suits and Kroot spam was the majority of my army, not because I like those units, but because they are the only really effective non-HQ units in the codex.

    We all knew that Armour of Contempt was stop-gap solution to codex creep, so I'm not surprised it's going away. I'm more excited about the points reductions for my Black Templars and Space Marines armies because I can squeeze more units into my lists.
    TBH I'm kinda sad about Intercessors dropping to 90 points because I thought them being 100 points was the perfect unit of measurement to balance all other units around -- but that hasn't really worked out in practice so I suppose it's for the best the Space Marines have an overall points reduction whereas the dominant armies, i.e. Tyranids, increase in points.
    Also, I'm somewhat ambivalent to the changes to Necrons because I didn't like how dominant the Custom Dynasty was in the meta. I'm also eager to fit in more units into my Necrons armies, especially Warriors and Tomb Blades. But I'm disappointed that only the Doomsday Ark received a points reduction and not the Doomstalker; and I wish that Reanimation Protocols were improved for multi-wound units because the all-or-nothing rule basically makes it impossible for 3+ wound models to resurrect.
    And I'm going to have to drop some models from my Votann lists. Oh well.

    • @scottsbarbarossalogic3665
      @scottsbarbarossalogic3665 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      'Core' is one of the unit keyword; typically, there are a lot of buffs for core units by characters, though it varies by army
      Most codexs have some HQs which grant rerolls on 1s to Core units within 6', or the Chapter Master Rerolls, also targeting Core

    • @kyleroach-smith1291
      @kyleroach-smith1291 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      core is a keyword which allows command abilities and strategems to be used on them. A lot of strategems for example will say: pick a core unit and give it some sort of buff. This is the same for certain character unit abilities that can give nearby core units rerolls on attacks or feel no pain and so on. Some psychic powers can only be used on core units as well.
