    I've watched more of thee bandana videos than I care to admittedly this evening. Yours is, by far, the best. I love your pattern. I like that you fold a piece down for the casing rather than just stitching across. I love the freezer paper. Great job. Thks

    These are great! If you would cut using the fold it would be faster and easier! Just thought you'd like to know !

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Pete! I should mention the reason the bandanna is designed using the fold is for added stability. If you were to simply leave an opening across the top seam that seam would recieve a lot of stress and pulling and would tear much easier. You would also have to tuck under and finish off the raw edge which can actually be more time consuming and like I said significantly less sturdy. Everything I make is made to last 😉

      In my opinion a lot of sewing patterns tend to be over technical or include steps that a really unnecessary for something this simple. I’m dislexic so reading patterns is her for me… I tend to just figure stuff out on my own and try to simplify from there.

    Hi Mary, I just learned how to make the doggie bandannas from your excellent video. I'm wondering if you could ever do a video on the Carols Zoo bear. There's a video on it but it goes so fast that I can't follow it and I would love to learn how to make the bear to give to my 4 granddaughters. You take your time and show every step of the way. I know you are super busy and may not be able to do this but I had to ask. Thankyou 🥰🥰

I’ve never made bears before but I’ll take a look. can’t make any promises in the short term with moving and all but I’m always looking for fun new projects. Also I just saw your comment about the freezer paper. For some reason I can’t seem to link to that thread directly. Did you order the meat hugger brand from the link below the video? It should be poly coated on one side. i just ordered a roll last month. I would recommend returning it. it’s very easy you can take it to Khols or UPS and they will ship it back for free. Please let me know if it was my link that led you to an incorrect product sometimes that happens on Amazon when the seller updates a listing.

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used my neighbors very large pit bull for the sizing. It will fit his collar width just fine. It is fine for a Great Dane it will just be a smaller look than the other dogs. But if you wanted a bigger bandanna you could always add an inch or so around the sides and the triangle… you don’t need to add any extra along the top long edge. Just the two short sides and down to the point.

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Many large dogs wear very thick collars. And high end leather collars can be very bulky. I make these in bulk and I want to make sure they will fit any collar so it’s better to be safe than sorry. Either way an extra inch in the opening won’t effect the overall look but if it bothers you, you can easily fold over another half inch and reduce the diameter.

      I bought mine at a quilt shop a long time ago and I think it was made by a small company. I haven’t found any more like it in a while. It’s basically a big sticker on an L shaped plastic grip. Hi I love your video and I love how the bandanas turn out they're so cute. I'm having my first ever craft fair in which I'm going to be selling these, how many do you take when you're going to do a craft fair to sell these? I'm going to do your $10 idea cuz I think that's fair.

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Penny! When it comes to craft shows the two largest sizes are gonna be you biggest sellers. The tiny ones ( chihuahua size) sell the least. I’ve found that the most popular prints are anything seasonal like fall/Christmas etc (especially sunflowers and buffalo checks) also pop culture prints like star wars, super hero’s, Harry Potter and nightmare before Christmas are very popular BUT they are more expensive so you make less profit in the long run. Flowers, butterflies, skulls, Patriotic and funnny stuff is also popular AND every time I make one with cannibus it sells immediately lol anyways depending how much time you have and how much money you’re trying to make I’d say you’d want probably want at least 7-10 of the two larger sizes 5-7 of the smaller one and only a few of the extra small maybe like 3-5. So around 30 total to have a good spread. You could also charge $12, $10, $8, $6 for the different sizes if you prefer. I usually pick a few prints and make one or two in each size… some people like their dogs to match 😉 When I display them I like to tie clothes line from one side of my tent to the other and hang them with clothes pins… they look fine laid out on a table too but if it’s windy they will blow away. I also have a laminated sign with my prices and QR codes for Venmo, PayPal and cash app to make it easy. Make sure to chat up your customers about their dogs… explain to them how the collar slips through so they can’t wiggle it off abd also mention they are very sturdy and can go through the washing machine. 😉 People really like that! Good luck! I hope you have good sakes!

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Karen. I have not made one with elastic. My dogs take everything off lol I’m sure elastic wouldn’t stand a chance against our chihuahua and her creative undressing moves 🤣 however you could easily adapt this pattern buy purchasing some sturdier elastic like this link…. amzn.to/3my3XOb …. If you slip some sturdy 1in elastic through the opening tucking the raw edges inside and then just run a few nice strong stitches down the open ends of the collar slot to close it off and conceal the raw edges and hold the elastic in place.

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only thing I should mention is I’m not sure how safe elastic is around an animals neck… it might be a strangulation hazard like with a child. You might want to do some research or talk to your vet before you make it just for safety sake. 😉 Also if you do decide to use elastic make sure to use your dogs neck as a guide for how long to cut the elastic so it’s not to tight.

    The material I have is only 12x12 how should I adjust the measurements. I want to make the medium bandana. Apparently math is not my forte😆

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sandy if your trying to get the biggest Bandanna possible out of a 12 x 12 scrap I would just make a simple adjustment to the Medium size which measures 12in X 13.5 x 6.5. I would remove the length from the top edge by cutting your fabric to 12 X 12 x 5. You will still have the same amount of fabric for the triangle you will just lose a little bit of the width in the pocket that your collar slips through. Since the collar area is folded in half this would make it aprox 3/4in more narrow than the original pattern.

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      One more thing I should mention is if your dog has a very thick collar and you’re worried about losing some of the width in the collar pocket you could always find a scrap of coordinating fabric and simply strict her it to the top of your 12 x 12 piece to give you the extra length needed. I would just create another cute detail. If you don’t have any scraps that you like the look of you can always fold that attached piece on the inside of the collar pocket so no one will really see it. I hope this makes sense lol If not let me know and I will try to clarify.

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Either option you chose it’s an easy fix so don’t worry you can use that 12 x 12 piece no problem. I did a similar fix for the backing fabric of my half apron video at the 36:00 min mark here’s a link to the video so you can see what I mean. th-cam.com/video/0njakBiQZmc/w-d-xo.html

    So if I do the same exact template with your measurements that you created. Once I fold the crease for a medium bandana will my collar automatically fit ? or do I have to measure the length from the collar and sew to the measurements of the collar ? Some videos I’ve seen on making a bandana has been to complicated to do and they don’t really explain as well as you did.
    Can you make another bandana video please on using the same exact pattern to see what it looks like once the crease is folded. If you have time if not it’s alright.

    • @MaryMakes
      @MaryMakes  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Ortiz... as long as you choose the bandanna size that you think will fit your dog best you should not have to make an adjustments to the pattern size. Any standard collar will fit through the opening. If you scroll to 9:08 in the video you can see how the fold should be made by folding the top down just so the top corners meet the top of the triangle. At 10:03 you can see how I just fold the top part of the pattern in half and then pin it in place and tack it down with a single long stitch down the long side. You can see what it looks like after the crease is complete at 11:15 Hope this helps!
