Her E flat is just as strong and heavy like Nilsson's higher tones. Marvelous Deutekom!!

Fantastic. The brightness of her voice particularly at the top really comes through. She was a marvel. Glad to hear the audience reaction as well. Too many younger people these days make fun of her coloratura technique without realizing how well it served her. The live performances show how magical she was. Thanks.

And not only younger people. I confess I have been making fun of her coloratura technique for nearly 50 years and still do, even though I am a keen fan. But admittedly,I'm Dutch - haha. Ms Deutekom had a superb and huge impressive voice that excited audiences as we hear here, and I reveled in her singing. She was highly regarded in her day for her recordings of early Verdi, not known previously - but these did not expose her coloratura. Her iodiosyncratic 'gargling' or even yodeling coloratura technique was quite bizarre. Whether it served her well I'm not sure: it always detracted from her otherwise magnificent voice and characterisations and she would have been a bigger star without it.

@@theon9575 Nonsens, she was great and nobody good do that, only possible, if the voice is completely free and she could!!!!!!

@@theon9575 I think her coloratura added to the wonder that she was. I do find it odd that other singers often have a glottal sound to their coloratura (Horne, Devia, Negri, to name a few) that weren't as criticized for it (imho). Though I also must make mention, when it comes to coloratura technique 'judgements', why are the men rarely mentioned?...*cough* lack of coloratura ability in men lately? (excluding counter tenors.) ^_~

@@theon9575 Mrs. Deutekom's coloratura technique is wonderful!!! As is everything else about her, (though she is a bit flat sometimes). There is a saying, "nobody is a prophet in his own land" ... It took a German (or Austrian) lady, the great singer Elisabeth Schwarzkopf, to discover Mrs. Deutekom, because Dutch impresarios had rejected her. I am not Dutch and so I can tell you that she was a marvel including her beautiful coloraturas, and I still can't believe it, how such pearls as this and so many others aren't at the top of the list together with Callas and Sutherland, for example. Mind you, if you're looking for something to make fun of, why pick on Deutekom's coloraturas? What about Callas' wobbling high register? And Sutherland's accent and articulation? Or are these sad phenomena too atrocious to be made fun of?........
