    The K75s and the K100s are the best bikes BMW ever made imo.

    The classic K's are the most reliable bikes BMW ever made, but you have to do the spline lubes and it takes a certain kind of grease. Beemer boneyard can help you with that, and I added Titanium Disulfide powder which I got from a company called Lower Friction.
    Replace the rubber brake lines with stainless steel braid as the old lines can deteriorate and jam up the calipers, even locking them up so the brakes don't release after you apply the brakes. Also replace all the rubber lines on the motor as those also crack over time causing air leaks. Radiator hoses seem to last forever, but you might want to replace those too.
    A common problem will be dirty fuel injectors. BMW has a good fuel system cleaner, and you should be using that often, at least every year. Anything with PEA in it should help and I believe Royal Purple has some good fuel cleaner too. The air filters last a long time on these also, being large and well made. Replace the coolant as required. Change oils as required. If you do all that, you will just be buying tires, and batteries, and you can let the miles roll on. They love the interstate, the faster the better, all day long, every day. Real good bikes.
    You will likely get compliments from people even though the bike is old. Last week a young lady who said she never saw one like that complimented the looks of the bike, which was made long before she was born. And don't forget to change the brake fluid. You don't want to have to buy new brake cylinders. Parts are expensive. You just won't need to buy many is all.

    I lusted over a K100RS big-time when they were released. They were revolutionary for BMW at the time. My friend has a K75 with over 400k and the original internals. Final drives were an issue, though.

    The K100 is bulletproof. With normal maintenance the bike will run 400.000 km with ease. Trust me I own one with 260.000 km and still going strong. In 20 years they will be expensive. Iconic and solid as steel German bike.

    Well, I got the bike yesterday. I have to say that the claims made in the video and in the auction with regards to its condition and how it was maintained, are embellishments. There are missing, broken items that weren't addressed and should have been prior to making the aforementioned claims, or disclosed fully.

      On Monday Feb 3, 2020, financial compensation (refund to my PayPay account) was agreed to in a phone conversation between Ken Kaplan and Cody Sudziarski of Kaplan Cycles, and myself. Cody was my contact all through the purchasing process of this bike. This was an amount offered by Ken Kaplan for which I would update and reverse my negative feedback. They phoned me because of an email I sent to Cody regarding the issues with the bike and the negative feedback I posted on eBay. A message to me sent through eBay by Cody Sudziarski of Kaplan Cycles on Wednesday Feb 5, 2020, said the funds would be deposited in my PayPal account by that days end. This has not happened and they haven't communicated their intentions regarding the matter. I will them one week. I won't say anymore until then. If Ken Kaplan keeps his covenant for financial compensation I will consider this closed, but so far he hasn't keep his promise to financially compensate me.@@enacku

    Gas mileage will depend on rpm. Through Montana interstate the mileage will be much lower. The first indication of dirty injectors will be poor gas mileage, then low rpm stumble, then hard starting, then if you don't do anything, eventually it will barely run.

The entire drive train is the original with over 200k miles. After learning this, my k1 is getting a second life. Fully pulled apart ready for all the love and money I can throw at it. Even to the day I pulled it into the garage to start the spa vacation, it still started, ran and rode with all the enthusiasm as it always has. Love that bike

    The gas tanks are aluminum so you wont see rust in there.

    • @moto9492
      @moto9492 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Um, not really rust but.... I've purchased 2 older K bikes and inside the tanks was so much crud and oxidation that the tanks get eaten through to where pin hole leaks are very common, and obviously dangerous. Tanks have to be chemically cleaned out and hand coated with a fuel friendly sealant. Also, the fuel pump and sending unit and brackets inside there are so prone to rust they can look like iron from a 100 year old shipwreck. These old K bikes are HIGH maintenance in many ways, trust me.

    • @vinjofin1972
      @vinjofin1972 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The bike performs well also in corners. Its not the fastest bike out there but it can keep up. If you can find one whos been taking care of properly it will last a life time. They are still affordable now. In 20 years they arent. Without doubt one of the best and reliable bikes of that age out there.

    • @slashdotism
      @slashdotism 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Handling is great for the size. A lot of it has to do with the placement of the engine. It's on the side and low down so the whole bike has a very low center of gravity which makes it feel a lot more nimble than the size and weight numbers says it should be.

    • @adamoneale4396
      @adamoneale4396 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the replies both. Sorry Vincent, I somehow managed to miss yours. I actually ended up with two bikes. AnR1100RT which I loved to pieces and a ZZR600 which was perfect for club riding. The BMW is absolutely superb. Never ridden a bike like it. The inner voice is now telling me to get an Ironhead though so I guess there's no pleasing me 🤷

    • @inspectorchicken
      @inspectorchicken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      No. But a 30 year old bike is not reliable like a new product was back then or now. What keeps the old BMWs running is a huge selection of improved spare parts and cheap access to it. Also these are very well documented and you can find any part and any doc mostly everywhere. On top of that these are perfectly laid out to do basic to mid-level stuff yourself without the need for special tools or deep knowledge.
