I wish the weather here in Finland would be as nice as it is in this video. Missing the summer and specially in Turku. Oh, and also lovely and informative video as always. And greetings from snowy, cold and dark Finland! :)
I live in Helsinki, but I love Turku ! Taking the train(VR) or bus(Onnibussi is the cheapest bus company and starts at 2€/way) from Hki to Turku can be quite cheap and the trip is only 2-2,5 hours depending on the type of transportation you opt to use.
@@woltersworld yes i was there in Turku I had my Paintings Exhibition. I was 2 months In Turku. 2015 It was so Peasefull City. Me too love to live there..
I wonder why in any travel guide of Turku, nobody mentions the Ruissalo island? The second oldest rock festival in Europe, Ruisrock, is held there, you can enjoy the nature in national park, walk around the shores and check out the villas, there are a couple of beaches, golf club, camping site and in the evening and morning you can watch the cruise ships pass by. Just to mention the first things that came to mind.
I need to make a small correction, Ruissalo does not have any national parks, but i does have various nature reserves. However, When staying more than 2 days, visit to Ruissalo is a must. At least in the summer.
Great to see videos on lesser-known places Mark! I was in Turku a year and a half ago and it was my favourite place in Finland that I got to see. The Luostarinmäki Handicrafts Museum, which you mention in passing, was also a really fun and interesting place to visit.
I was pleasantly surprised that you made a video about Turku (especially since you have connections to it). Something special about Turku is the thriving community of the swedish speaking finns (though you tend to find us all along the coast of Finland and in the archipelago) :) I hope you and your family had a fantastic stay and next time you visit, I would recommend paying a visit to the archipelago ( ex. Hanko, Tammisaari) and Bengtskär, a lighthouse in the outer parts.
My father is from Oulu but lived in Turku from 1986 to 1991 before moving to the Balearics in Spain, really lovely city that i've only been to once in 2004 :/ I agree Finland is so much more than Helsinki, in fact a lot of us people from Northern and Eastern Finland loathe Helsinkians because they are sometimes snobs haha
This phenomenon is universal, if you live in Sweden then you think Stockholmers are snobs, if you live in the US you think New Yorkers are snobs etc. The capitals (or big citys in general) are so keen on having a a good reputation of being "the best" at all sorts of things that they kind of look stupid to the rest of the country.
buy a bus ticket for 3€ and you can travel on any city or most regional buses at no extra charge for the next two hours. Helsinki has the same system but there it is valid just one hour.
However, I do remember the prices. "one beer please" "sure that will be 8€" *sprays beer all over the table* From that day on, on tap pear cider. Cheaper and YUM.
Can of coke in store’s are usually around 1-2€, a basic cheeseburger from store is around 2-3€. In mcdonald’s cheeseburger meal is 4,80€, Big mac meal is 8,25€ & Happy meal 4,50€. It sometimes also depends on which city you are in but about the same prices everywhere
googling "why on earth should i visit turku finland" have brought me here. I'm from Kaunas, Lithuania and recently wizzair flight Turku-Kaunas was introduced :D
Dear Mark! I love your videos. Thanks a lot. I think it is very strange that you don't mention that Finland is bilingual and Turku is also known as Åbo. That is vital information.
+Alec Serino I'm working on a merchandise site. Hopefully by end of summer will have some basics like shirts, beer koozies, stickers, luggage tags, passport holders. I'm working on it.
Hi Mark, I'm planning a trip to Mauritius to visit my partner's family. As a Canadian, it's an island we don't hear a lot about. I know it's a much more popular destination for European and Asian travellers. If you're interested, I think you should add it to your list! Seems like an awesome country to visit with a unique culture and beautiful scenery:)
*_Kiss My Turku_* @4:14. 👍 Of course I had to look it up and I see it's a marketing campaign launched in 2011 to boost interest in the city. Since business marketing and tourism combine Mark's professional and personal lives, I would love to hear his opinion of *_"Kiss My Turku."_*
+Tosh T I bought shirts for the whole family. And for a city in a relatively tourist free country they need to do something exaggerated to get noticed. It is a nice town to relax in in the summer and I will be going back regardless if I have to kiss their Turku or not
I think it's great. 👍 Mildly naughty but not offensive and certainly memorable. Not quite "I ♥️NY" or as catchy as "I amsterdam" but effective for sure.
I think that you should visit here in Turku also main library. It's mesmerisingly Beautiful, it has a old classy side and modern side, and it's between church and central Turku. Also if you are into beer Ravintola Old Bank is worth of visit, also Kakolan Panimo{Kakola's brewery) in old jail district...they have good beers to sell. And FÖRI, you should check it too, it's worth of visit. 🤗
Thank you. I am from Chile and I am trying to find accommodation there. Please if you have any information you can send me, I would really appreciate it. Hugs
as a non-english speaker, it's hard for me to catch the words he is saying...he's talking too fast but it's okay. I take it as a learning session to myself haha.
Turku was almost totally destroyed in the early 19th century couse it burnt down, it was biggest of its kind in scandinavia. It destoryed all of Turkus mediavel buildings. And in the 60s there was some corrupted politicans who let to destroy many historical buildings in Turku, thats why the main square has a lot of those ugly buildings. In Finland its called the Turku disease, couse it happened so much in Turku and other places also.
I have to be honest with you. I have some friends in Turku and I lived in Scandinavia for years, but that city looks pretty boring to me (sorry). It reminds me of Poland the way it looks, which is not a bad thing of course, just not my kinda city I think. I appreciate this video though!
In summer, there are many towns and cities to visit in Finland. One to mention, is Hanko.
This is my dream city! Number 1 on my bucket list to go to Turku! Thanks for this video
omgggg!!! i went exchange to Turku, miss this city sooooo much
Will go there for exchange this winter. Is there something you would recommend seeing and how did you meet new people there?
I want Mark and Jocelyn to adopt me. Their kids have been places in their young lives that I'll NEVER probably see.
Awesome that someone finds my lovely hometown Turku so cozy! There are certainly more in Finland than just Helsinki. Thanks for great video dude! 😊
Finland, here I come!!!! I plan on going to Helsinki, Kupio, Turkuu, and Rovaniemi later this year!
Great ones to visit :). I am from Rovaniemi and still live here... Capital of Lapland, heart of lapland. Santa claus place :D :)

I was there a week ago. I already miss it.
In Turku, one of the biggest things are ice hockey. We have one of Finland's legendariest ice hockey club, HC TPS.
I think Wolter uses the word “nice” roughly 100 times in this video. Nice!
