Listening with interest. The colonial parliament was setup after the Treaty in 1840. Te Wherowhero Potatau was first Maori king in 1856, then Tawhaio succeeded him in 1860. Had a successful local government, magistrates, land surveyors, gardens, flour mills. Maori built this country up just as you say. White colour history is all we have been told. In answer to your question? 3 representatives of a particular hapu involved with K.H, became greedy & decided to forge signatures, seals & documentatiion & put our kaumatua from Whawhaakia through bullying & standover tactics to try force them to sign all their documentation to enable them to access $7,000,000 being offered to Ko Huiarau via the United Tribal Alliance of the Americas, for the 'set up' of Ko Huiarau administration in order to start paying all our 'hapu representatives' who had been elected into their respective areas so they may start to function & administer to their respective hapu their future developments. When our kaumatua (who the Taiopuru ordained as kaitiaki of K.H. with Pohotiare as the pilot hapu in agrreement, refused to sign & support their 'proposal' as it was not approved by all the hapu on board with over 63,000 registrations that were continuing to rise daily) the defecting hapu representatives chose to defy the 'whare o runga/upperhouse & whare ahupiri council', going across to the otherside of the world to try steal/access the account set up for K.H. Parliament. Little did this band of thieves realise the Taiopuru office was set up with 'direct digital connection' to the United Tribal Alliance office of the Americas where by Mahinarangi being in the K.H.office at the time answered the call & the personnel at the other end asks for verification of 'who were the people standing in their office' making application to access the Ko Huiarau account, because their 'detectors' were not accepting the documentation & signatures signalling 'FORGERY'. She asked for a discription of them all, which was given & her instructions from the top was to 'rebutt their claims' & refuse their fraudulent entry into their building. As the moa became scarce, and the ancient forests cleared, the manu became smaller; some for protection, some because food got scarcer. That's what drove the Pouakai to extinction after the moa disappeared - their environment changed significantly and their main food source became extinct.

Now I might be wrong but - here is my korero - it was King William IV that gave the sovereign flag, because William IV reigned 1830 to 1837. The He Whakaputanga Declaration of Independence & the He Whakaputanga sovereign flag were signed into being in 1835 during William IVs reign. King William IV authorized for the flag's, Letters Patent, the Royal Assent, the 21 gun salute by the HMS Alligator, and had it Gazetted. William IV is recorded in Halsbury's Laws of England that he ''declared New Zealand was a substantive and independent State''. When our kaumatua (who the Taiopuru ordained as kaitiaki of K.H. with Pohotiare as the pilot hapu in agrreement, refused to sign & support their 'proposal' as it was not approved by all the hapu on board with over 63,000 registrations that were continuing to rise daily) the defecting hapu representatives chose to defy the 'whare o runga/upperhouse & whare ahupiri council', going across to the otherside of the world to try steal/access the account set up for K.H. Parliament.
Little did this band of thieves realise the Taiopuru office was set up with 'direct digital connection' to the United Tribal Alliance office of the Americas where by Mahinarangi being in the K.H.office at the time answered the call & the personnel at the other end asks for verification of 'who were the people standing in their office' making application to access the Ko Huiarau account, because their 'detectors' were not accepting the documentation & signatures signalling 'FORGERY'.
She asked for a discription of them all, which was given & her instructions from the top was to 'rebutt their claims' & refuse their fraudulent entry into their building. After much discussion at our Runanga hui/gathering which we met when necessary with all other hapu registered, it was decided we agree to put everything back into recess to teach everyone a 'lesson'... this is what happens when one bad apple spoils the whole bunch'.
According to tikanga we couldnt change the internal mechanics of our structure, even if we wanted to...that is why K.H. structure is unpenetrable. We can change around the parameters but the internal structure has remained since the day of our tupuna being in 'maori parliament'. No reira teena koe te tuahine.

Our old ppl talked about the Pouakai reaching massive wing spans in early human history of Aotearoa. As the moa became scarce, and the ancient forests cleared, the manu became smaller; some for protection, some because food got scarcer. That's what drove the Pouakai to extinction after the moa disappeared - their environment changed significantly and their main food source became extinct.

Now I might be wrong but - here is my korero - it was King William IV that gave the sovereign flag, because William IV reigned 1830 to 1837.
The He Whakaputanga Declaration of Independence & the He Whakaputanga sovereign flag were signed into being in 1835 during William IVs reign.
King William IV authorized for the flag's, Letters Patent, the Royal Assent, the 21 gun salute by the HMS Alligator, and had it Gazetted.
William IV is recorded in Halsbury's Laws of England that he ''declared New Zealand was a substantive and independent State''.
Plus Busby arrived in NZ in 1833 it was Busby who commissioned the flag for Māori.
He communicated with the powers that be in Australia and had samples manufactured in Australia.
Busby lived in the house at Waitangi which is now known as ‘The Treaty House’. He lived there with his wife Agnes, and their six children.
