    Worked like a charm!
I ordered the diodes, installed as shown, and I can see clearly now with fog+low+high beams all shining at once in my 2017 Chevy Silverado HD!!!
Thank you for the hack… it always drove me crazy that the fogs went off when I flicked high beams on!

  • @greggismyname

This may have been covered. The silver side (wire) of the diode is called the cathode and on a schematic it is represented by a vertical line connected to its wire. The other wire is called the anode and is represented on a schematic as an arrow pointing towards the vertical line. DC Current DC always flows opposite the arrow, or from the Cathode to the Anode. What we are doing here is taking the controlling voltage/signal from the HighBeams (pin 18) and letting it lend its signal to the Fog control circuit (pin 10). Since the signal/current can only flow against/opposite the arrow the high beam signal gets to the fog light signal but not the opposite way to not let the signal from the fog lights to get back to the high beams. as it's isolated because of the "one way only" diode. To answer "will any diode work?" Any diode with a PIV (Peak Inverse Voltage) of greater than 12volts Direct Current (your vehicle is 12 volts) and a typical minimum of a half amp, you should be covered. The most common general purpose diodes that you will see are 1N4000 (50V@1amp) through 1N4004 (400V@1amp). Anything over 20 volts (example) is overkill and just fine. I hope this helps.
This same scheme is used by boost/burst/whoever to allow the low beams to turn on your fog lamps automatically with your low beams. The difference is that your diode costs a few cents and a similar diode in a heat shrink sleeve with crimp connectors costs $24.95 + shipping at that auto supply site. WINK WINK Get it? (You will need to find the pin for the low beams, connect the "cathode (band)" of the diode to it and the anode to the Fog Light pin). This way the low beam signal lends its voltage to the fog light circuit.

Good info but confusing. Not sure why no one is talking about it?
You demonstration does not match the wiring pin out shown? If you look at 6:35 you inserted the diode in pin 18 and then pin 7 (blk/purple)
So my question is what is correct?
The drawing your showing (pin 18 &10) or your video (pin 18 & 7)?
