Super easy to modify and repair, they were ranked the best handling car even beating out the integra type r. The community is a what keeps me to the platform as well as how these drive. Great little car
I can amagine speed protege guys being really good guys, since they really care about a car that they find fun to drive, instead of trying to find the fastest car to impress their mates etc, and yeah these cars are suprisingly incredibly good, before I knew much about them, I never suspected they were anywhere near this good

I've had mine for about 3 years now. Always felt I was a little on the weak side, but recently discovered my turbo has just been leaking boost ever since I bought it. Just had the turbo rebuilt and now it feels like an all new car. Tons of get up and go out of turns now.
I will only buy and drive Mazda Proteges, non turbo ES and P5s. I'm on my fourth. I especially love driving them on winding, curvy roads, because they handle so well. I was even a member of NASA for a year and got to drive on Road Atlanta and Carolina Motor Park in my P5 at the time. SOOOO much fun!! You really don't have to mod them out to enjoy driving them. Zoom Zoom!!

Great content, IMO no need for sound and clip drops, it makes it harder to watch. Got my MSP back in July with only 85k on it. I had some issues but now drives as it should. I have as much fund driving this car as I do with my E90 M3. By far the best FWD car I've ever driven.
I'd heard a lot of confusion about this, whether the weakest link from the internals were the roads or pistons or sleeves etc, I didn't want to say it was one of them in case I was wrong and couldn't find the right answer, hence why I just said, weak internals
The engine block for these cars where stock 2.0l that where never built for boost, that was this cars biggest downfall. However, when built properly with aftermarket support, which there is plenty of for this car, can make a decent 400+ bhp, which for this car is just what you need to shoot past maybe a stock Ford Mustang or catch a few hellcats by surprise! 😎
I am the proud owner of a 2003.5 Titanium Grey still trying to find my vin number in the Mazdaspeed data sheet. Only a total of 2750 units where ever sold in the US if you find one buy it and hold onto it, these are very very rare cars, despite their quirks they are great cars, this is my 3rd Protege and I will be buried with this one....😎

@@LifeOfTuners you do have to be very cautious with vin fraud i agree, but I did have my vin number verified with Mazda it is a real Mazdaspeed problem now is finding it in registry, I search when I have time, I own the mid year model with the different front rear bumper and spoiler, the first 1000 cars that where released where basicly rebadged mp3 models with a callaway turbo kit thrown on at the port on entry when the cars came right off the boat.
@@LifeOfTuners yes they changed them mid year just before the end of production, you can see the bumper changes from the 2003-2003.5, front and rear bumper change, fog light delete, spoiler change as well as a pedal changes, and gear knob switch to say Mazdaspeed, including mazdaspeed floor mats. Wheel color change as well.
@@LifeOfTuners the first 1000 units where only sold in Mica Black and Spicy Orange Pearl Metallic. The rest of the colors where sold in mid year with the body changes including Titanum grey which I own, and was the most common color.
You kept saying they only made 2000...they made 4500. 1759 (black or orange) in 2003 and 2750 in 2003.5 (Silver, Titanium, Yellow Blue. The turning is due to bad power steering pumps. Also, it did 0-60 in 6.9 sec when it was new.They did change the CAT to improve exhaust flow for the Turbo

Actually, there are 2 and a half model years. 2002, 2003, and 2003.5. The 2003.5 had slight changes made to the appearance changing from the the low rise, flat top wing and equipped with fog lights, to the hoop evo-style wing, sans fog lights. You only ever show the 03.5 model. Also, the dealership ECU re-tune was more about fuel economy than the hesitation, although it was prescribed for both. Fun fact - on turbocharged cars it's better to be rich than lean, and there is no way of checking if your ECU has the lean tune which can lead to zoom zoom BOOM as soon as you try to mod. The engine is the weak point because it is the stock eternal econo-motor that was sent off to Callaway to be fitted with the slurpy snail. Rods are literally as thick as 2 pencils taped together.

You can draw a straight line from it to the Focus St/RS and Ecoboost Mustangs of today, and it's turbokit was designed by the same engineers that gave us a production C4 Corvette that hit a higher top speed than the Veyron did almost 40 years and 16 cylinders later.
Hmmmm I think it's quite possible. With mazdaspeed 3/6s it uses an L series engine, and another L series block, (the 2.5 block) fits on the mazdaspeed 2.3 head. So I reckon it is probable that other f series engine blocks would fit 🤔
Any 2.0 FS Protege engine will fit, but you must remember to swap over the oil cooler from the old engine (it’s under the oil filter) and swap over the sandwich plate between the block and oil pan for the oil return line from the turbocharger. I personally used an engine from an 02 auto P5 when I needed to swap my engine.

Yeah it's got steel piping for the intercooler and exhaust on it already. Has a few minor issues mostly cosmetic. Things a steal af and so cheap. That's the same motor from a ford probe no?
Oh wow, that's cool, sure it's only got 5hp more, but it revs to like 800rpm more, plus although peak torque is later (5000 vs 3500) that'll feel more like you have to wind it out and use the whole engine, that's cool!

No that's one thing I heavily dislike about youtube, whenever people use any profanity, youtube will notify me about it, so I can read a bit of it, but then youtube deletes it, so I can't reply to it, and usually I really want to respond to them, I've even tried going on pc to youtube studio in the hidden comments section and youtube doesn't even let me see them again there. Generally I never delete comments, the only exception is if it's going to offend someone else (racial slurs etc I didn't delete your comment and I wish youtube would let people swear in comments

Yeah it's so light, 400hp would be tons, from what I've heard, it's an unchanged engine from the normal 2.0 non turbos ay?

There is no 2002 MSP. '03 and '03.5 were the only ones.

the JDM version did not have a turbocharger and instead used variable valve timing to get the power up. Actual power was closer to 160 hp.
