    The couch arrived in two boxes four days early, which was great because we'd just moved into a new house and needed places to sit. My son and I put it together pretty quickly th-cam.com/users/postUgkxitRzxya-XugamYgLwa_2G1gxPg4MCJHa . Another reviewer suggested inserting the seat into the side and I'm glad they did as the instructions weren't clear on that matter. It's incredibly light and slides easily across the wood floor, making it easy to move. It's firm, but comfortable. It will even be great to nap on. I got the gray, which definitely has strong blue undertones, but I'm okay with that.

    One time my hand bumped the string on my bow pistol and the string smacked my hand and my hands were cold at the time. That was painful. Imagine if this string misfired and smacked your hand in battle. lol Still a fantastic product.

  • @PhotoBobBarker

    The maximum deflection of these bows was mostly a function of the quality of steel and the thickness and width of the prod.
    The most powerful crossbow (what was left of it) that I personally have seen was estimated at about 1650 lbs (750Kg) at the British museum. From the length of the prod I would guess that it only had a draw length of 5-7 inches.
    But, the bow shown would have been a decent representation of a heavy crossbow, and would penetrate armor (with proper points) at 50-100 yds.

    Not true - In Australia it all depends on which state you live in, As far as i know, in South Australia all crossbows are banned -cant get one. But in Queensland (where i live) you just need an M class weapons license and do a crossbow safety course and ta-da you can import any you and as many as you like. I am thinking of getting a 300 pound crossbow myself some time soon =P

  • @user3141592635

    It is not true, the larger they were, the longer they could shoot. Range is about 250..300 meters maximum, no matter how powerful they were.
    However, a powerful crossbow can punch through armor, and a light one can not.

  • @Hornet_Legion
    @Hornet_Legion 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

    i wonder why they were so obsessed by trying to bend a short piece of steel which wouldnt flex enough to push a bolt for longer than 6 inches of travel, when they could have just built the crossbow much wider and cocked it with a lot less effort, had a longer distance of engagement with the bolt and increased hitting power and reload speed.

      It is the same reason why people started using muskets instead of bows. They required enormous amount of training to be effective with bows.
      Crossbow is the same deal, it is time consuming process to load it (and if you use any other spanning method than Windlass, it is also very exhausting).
      And lastly, the crossbow did not have the greatest range and the power, whereas musket did have power. If you're hit by a musketball, you're out of the fight, even though it is very inaccurate.
      But mostly, it requires little to no skill and strength to use musket effectively.

    • @LutzDerLurch
      @LutzDerLurch 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      Vccine
      The accuracy of the bow is largely overhyped, whilst the inaccuracy of the musket is vastly exaggerated.
      Also, contryry to popular belief, it does take some training to make a man a musketeer of any use.
      But crossbows and muskets don't take ages of training to become physically able to use them.
      If you expect to just pick a random idiot and hand him a musket, you'll assume muskets can't hit shit, as the musket is difficult to learn in regards to hitting your target.

    • @LutzDerLurch
      @LutzDerLurch 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      *****
      Yes, undersized balls were used in the military, but the "bouncing" is largely a myth. What throws off a smoothbores accuracy is any random spin the ball might acquire on it'S way out of the barrel.
      Military ammunition with paper cartridges though prevent a random spin fairly reliably. Wether or not that was understood and desired, or just coincidence, is up to debate.
      (With a paper cartridge and going by period loading manuals, the paper is effectively hammered into a sabot between powder and ball. The ball itself wrapped in the paper, preventing it from aquiring a spin. As soon as it leaves the muzzle, the paper tears off.)
      The fact is, that military ammunition, whilst less accurate than 'perfect' loads, is not that much worse, and is itself much better than people think.
      There are numerous tests conducted in the 18th C. with units firing at targets and marks, and it is quite impressive what random soldiers with their normal muskets and ammunition achieved.
      When looking at history, usually when around 20 to 30% of the own troops become casualties, units/armies tend to break.
      With the period tests against targets on a range, 300 yards distance and two three volleys would already fulfill that quota.
      In reality, sometimes volleys were fired at less than 20 yards with almost no effect. The key is psychology. People missed much more than the muskets did.
      Ultimately, firepower is more than just accuracy, and though armchairgenerals belittle the military leaders of old for choosing quick muskets over accurate rifles, in the subsequent history and even modern times, we se that much more emphasis is on the amount of lead poured out.

      How is this any different from the archer? Bows have strings too, often made of the same material.
      And yes as warrax said, waxing the bowstring prevents softening.

    • @jamiewhittingham2804
      @jamiewhittingham2804 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same with the longbow archers, there's a saying in Britain to "keep it under you're hat", it means to keep it to yourself, but it's origins come from how archers kept their bow strings under their caps when not in use to stop the
      fibres swelling.

      Bodkin point was designed to penetrate maille armour (aka chainmail) and against plate armour it would simply bend and wouldn't do anything. And about 200 yards...yeah dude not even English longbow could do anything against any kind of armour. it's hard for it to penetrate even gambeson at medium range.

  • @MarcRitzMD
    @MarcRitzMD 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    He did not mention the draw weight. Where did you get the number from? If you don't have it, then please cite me one example of a crossbow of 1000+ lbs draw weight that only has a 4 inch power stroke. You probably can't.
    The difference between 4" and 7" (as in a siege crossbow of 1200lbs I COULD cite you) means an increase in potential power by 206%.
    The crossbow shown will neither pierce any armor nor come close to the kinetic energy in an arrow from an English warbow.

  • @0hypnotoad0
    @0hypnotoad0 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    Doesn't need a long draw, in this case its preferable that it doesn't have one. The prod is 1000+ pounds and it's been strung at a very high prod tension, so a loosed shot will always be at a very high velocity.
    Most of the European crossbows 9espcially late period ones) only have a very short draw.

    • @cool06alt
      @cool06alt ปีที่แล้ว

      Very short draw means very inefficient mechanic body. 1000+ pounds are basically only translated into 10% of that for the actual output.
      Rather than saying it doesn't need a long draw, it cannot afford to have long draw because steel prods would just snapped like twigs.
      "so a loosed shot will always be at a very high velocity."
      It's not so much high velocity compared to much efficient asiatic crossbow or modern compound crossbow. 145 fps vs 250 fps vs 300 fps. Do tell if that's very high velocity.

      Yes, it was so good in the sieges. Imagine, when you have only longbowmen, or melee soldiers, women and children do nothing. But when you have crossbows, they all can shoot, and reload. You can get much power from it. It was killing knights and experienced warriors, cause able to penetrate armor at closer distance, that's why some Popes called it hellish device, and encourages christians to stop using crossbows in battle (they meant heavy crossbows, light crossbows was not such threat). (funny thing is, they should encourage them to stop fight at all)

    So basically hand held ballista.. Not even surpriced they are illegal in most countries. TBH the best impact comes from the bullet itself. It must be heavy tipped and hard to cut sheet metal. Obsidian tipped crossbowbolts or tool steel tipped bolts would have been the best for the money on middle ages but if you wear really good leather armour you would survive against flint tipped arrow.

      The armour piercing ability of bows and crossbows is massively overrated. Even an extremely powerful crossbow like the one in this video wouldn't pierce a contemporary quality harness of plate armour. Against modern armour, bows and crossbows are only capable of piercing soft armour. They have no chance of piercing steel or ceramic plates.

As well video exists of the testing of these and other explosive tipped weapons that can and are attachable to Bolts, Arrow Heads as well as LONG STICKs, like for real LONG STICKs,,, well sticks designed to poke at ARMOURED DOORs from a short distance to help protect against molten liquid splash backs upon striking. Well. These things are more powerful then the Longbow. The standard crossbows effective range was about 60-80 yards. The longbow has a range of about the same. THESE things though, must be close to 100-150 yards. Metal armed crossbows are legit.

    • @Mulberry2000
      @Mulberry2000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong long bow had an effective range of 200 yards long when shooting at horses, The range you are talking about is punching through plate Armour, ie the breastplate, not all men at arms wore this or had the same quality. Most had standard quality or poor Armour plates and mail etc

    • @Mulberry2000
      @Mulberry2000 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mulberry2000 also this is the heavy one and very slow to load, of course its powerful and had may be longer range, because of its slowness of load crossbows had shields to protect them

    • @jojorobino5312
      @jojorobino5312 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mulberry2000 Long bow yeah, I meant plate armor. But the Crossbows should have the same range of 200 yards to a unarmored person. It is simply harder to shoot a long bow which is why most of them got replaced with crossbows. 100 pound to 175 pound crossbows can reload without needing a windless or other device. This heavyweight crossbow in the vid has to come close to 300 yards.

    • @1cme1
      @1cme1 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mulberry2000 a longbow does not penetrate plate armor at 100 yards, and very often it will not penetrate even at very close range. if this were true, the French would have completely stopped wearing it in the hundred years war, where more than 60-70 percent of the English army was made up of longbowmen. equally, English men at arms did not stop wearing plate armor in the face of french crossbowmen.
      there is not a single recorded historical example of any individual dying from an arrow wound while wearing a full suit of plate armor. the only examples we know of where a person wearing plate armor was wounded by an arrow, is when they were hit in the face. either with their visor up, or at very close range from the side, penetrating their visor (at the battle of Poitiers for example). however, even penetrating the visor. which is usually made of thinner metal than the rest of the helmet, was considered a quite exceptional feat.
      what i believe this misconception comes from, is that people might say something like a bodkin point arrow is designed to penetrate armor. someone hears this, and when they think of armor they immediately assume plate. but this is not the case. bodkin points are quite good at penetrating mail armor (however even this can be challenging. there are numerous examples of arrows failing to penetrate mail). and crossbows are exceptional at penetrating mail. this is what people really mean when they say that these weapons can penetrate armor. lets not forget that even a soldier wearing something as simple as just a gambeson (these have been known to stop arrows as well) is armored.

    • @weaponsandbushcraft421
      @weaponsandbushcraft421 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      well a longbow is more powerful over long distances due to heavy arrows and long draw, whereas crossbows are very powerful at close range due to high accuracy,lighter bolts and therefore very fast but not very good at 100+ yards
