Uncle wrote this song. I was about 7 when it was released. I recall my Uncle, Michael, then a law student, coming through our our gate one warm evening. My Mother, Celine, was thrilled. My Grandparents were equally so. It was 1979 - if memory serves me correctly!
I believe the reason she is so serious is she was just told her little cousin Mary Doyle had just been swallowed into the lush landscape of Donegal. She left the concert immediately dispatched to Donegal to assist in the search for the wee lass who was never found. Margo has been fighting for Mary's remains to be recovered ever since. She never once exploited her popularity or Mary's situation as she put on Wellingtons and crawled into the marshes doing what the Garde' refuse to do.
WOOOOHOOOO!!! I love this thanks for posting Kate :)) I met Margo in Kincasslagh in 2000 when I went to see her brother Daniel singing.....AWESOME!!!! hugs n smiles Sandie xoxo (\o/) God bless You!
the emcee recounted that Margo's career started when she was 14...yeah! I was there in 1965, up in creeslough (I think) when she was "margo and the country folk" i was checking out the local talent at a dance. well, Margo's family was just down the gortnasade road near kincasslagh. I still see her mother Julia whenever I make the trip.
My late grandad was mad about this song and Margo. Thanks for posting it, not heard it in years. One small point about the lyrics though, Buncrana is on the Swilly River and not the Foyle!
There is no Swilly River but there is a Lough Swilly. She does not say Buncrana on the Foyle but Buncrana on the way to Foyle. Presumably on the way to Lough Foyle. Buncrana is on the Crana River, hence the name Bun Crana, at the mouth of the Crana.
Johnny I'm not too sure what you mean by there is no River Swilly? It rises in west Donegal and goes eastwards into Lough Swilly. Letterkenny is on the Swilly! I have read the lyrics and it does say Buncrana on the native Foyle.
ilove this song it reminds me of aholiday ispent in lovely bundoran imet margo acouple of years ago as it was my dream to be asinger unfortunetly that didnt happen at least igot to meet the singer! imet afew country singers
Unless someone else wrote the song and made the mistake? Maybe a non Donegal person or someone down the bottom of the county and has a lack of education. I only went as far as Sligo and i got asked does Donegal have the euro? What does that tell you!
