Me too and right now my sides hurt from laughing at it all. Being a NYC person, never had the chance to do that drive. We have the Long Island Expressway, a/k/a The World's Biggest Parking Lot since the traffic volume does tend to slow folks down.
6:52 When I was a kid, there were these things called "station wagons". A bunch of kids would just pile into the back of it. No seat belts, no airbags, absolutely nothing to prevent you from going flying in a auto accident. Good times :)
lol he could have driven to the redline terminal transferred to the blue line gotten on the green line and ubered from the marine station off the green line to hermosa. But the length of time would have been similar
There aren't many people who make me laugh EVERY time I watch them, but YOU are one of them. Come to W.A. please I will be there to see you (if I haven't died LOL)
On the stamp joke, if the post office wants to encourage people, they should allow email addresses to be used to send snail mail. Convenience works. Details available upon request, mostly regarding secondary services the post office could milk off of the convenience for more profitability.
@@MrShikagafor pretty much anything official. Say you needed to serve a lawsuit certified mail return receipt requested... Theoretically, the convenienance to email that directly might outweigh the fact that such a service is already available via traditional means (and bonus, you don't have to print out the lawsuit!). It would probably be kinda niche, but I could see potential avenues
We bought a TRS-80 in 1977 when I was 17. We were old school nerds! My father and I wrote Games Pack 1 for the TRS-80 and our publisher advertised in the back of Byte magazine.
He's so right about sitting in the boot/truck of a car by the window. We did that here in the UK too in the 70s and 80s. Our cars are much smaller too! Refreshing comedy! Superb! 😅😅
8:25 in '78 I was a kid, so yes, pee, usually in the bathroom. in 2019 I crack a beer and pour a bourbon on my way to the bathroom ..where I usually pee 🍺🥃🚽
I think Americans would DIE if they saw our fuel prices. And if they knew what a liter was. Edit: Did the math, it's $7.5 per gallon where I live. I wish I was kidding.
$.35/gallon for gasoline in 1978 is not even close. I remember in Feb. 1982 seeing gasoline for less than $1/gallon for the first time in several years.
@@Ithenna Every source I can see online (including US Government agencies) says that the average price of gasoline in the US in 1978 was around 65-70 cents per gallon, even taking state-by-state differences into account.
I remember you could but a bottle of BV George de Latour wine for $16.00 today $149.00, You could afford to but a house with the average job and now you can't afford to pay the rent.
He's wrong about the gas prices. When I started working at a store in 1974, gas was 52.9 cents. That winter, it went down to 47.9. After that, it went up. It was never once below 50 cents after that. Also notice that this video was shot during Trump's presidency. By the end of his term, I was paying $1.89 a gallon. Within months, gas had more than doubled.
Crazy! Does not stand in any relation to the amount of work gone into it, unless you pay in sheets of gold, beset with diamonds. Should have learned plumbing instead, I guess...
Statistical humor! Love it! He is hilarious and so right!
I am old enough to remember these things. And I have driven from Santa Clarita to the Comedy & Magic Club. Thanks for laughs.

The McMillan Mirth Meister is back with another load o'laughs. Gravy!
Technically funny! The best kind of funny :)
I'm young enough to not have lived through any of the 1978 jokes, yet somehow I'm just old enough to still get them.
It's a very _weird_ feeling, having not lived through these things and yet _understanding_ them...
There was at least one Starbuck in 1978. Liked to hang out with Apollo :)
Indeed!
so say we all
"Asphalt angels"... good one!
Not living in the USA, I might not understand the living conditions but I do appreciate the maths - the heat bit I do get, our ROADS MELT!
You forgot to calculate the 1.5 hours of security theatre and check-in at the airport how can you claim you're an engineer!
Amazing content sir. Im 25, from another country with different language. but your content simply gets me all the time! cheers!
He ain't kidding about the traffic !
Don, your graphic at 3:17 says "Happy 41th Anniversary" forty-oneth? LOL
Love your stuff, Don!
This is the best powerpoint driven comedy show I've ever seen.
Have you not seen the StandUp Maths one?

I also remember when we would ride in the bed of pickup trucks. Yes, those were good times.
Well I grew up in Manitoba, which is located on the chart right close to the moon.
I agree. I did my undergrad in Winterpeg Manisnowba.
I took a wrong turn one day and ended up in Santa Clarita ... it was nice, rural ... but I've seen it now
That 7h road trip would have been a 30m train ride in any sane country.

I like that the source of the last chart is "completely made up by technically funny"

Nerddom at its best!

cellphone one was gold. 🤣😂
Freaking brilliant!
9:04 they had flatscreen monitors then?
4:40 Those California gas prices seem luxurious now... they went from $3.87 to over $5 in under 5 years. Ouch.

You should come and do some shows in New Zealand. Theres plenty of old farts here 😂😂😂

$3.87?!? Gas in the U.S. is always dirt cheap!! Here in Vancouver, B.C. we're paying the equivalent of $5.85 USD per US gallon for Regular.
Remember that this was in 2019. Gas isn't that cheap anymore here either
Here in Europe we pay up to 10bucks per gallon.
Having a 2.5litre V6 is really hanging it out there 😂
7:47 God, I miss the wii...

He just started his career and it sill blow, right? He will not age!
7:58 Who still paid for Norton as recently as 2019?
So nice of the Engineer to translate the measurements into Fahrenheit and miles for the sake of his non-engineer audience...... :)
Cost comparisons from 2019 to 2024 are even more radical.
True
4:57 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂🎉🎉
Close your eyes. He sounds exactly like Jay Leno.
Love this show! Btw, my what cheap gas you have in California!
I’m stoked you’re a fellow SCV resident. Do you ever do sets down at JR’s?
norton is the #1 VIRUS (remove the anti-) 😂
3.87 for gas sounds nice.

What a futuristic 1978 model! What was that called again?

This audience is a bummer.

41th? 41st
Then again, when I grew up it was 41rst. With an r. And without the r it was totally wrong. Or should I wite wong now?
Real estate in the U.S. is worthless! Here in Vancouver, B.C. the average price for a 2000 sq ft house is $1,350,000 CAD ($970,000 USD).
