We keep a case of this on the shelf along with the standard cheap Henry McKenna at the liquor store. It’s around $62 not allocated. We can order and get it every 2 weeks. But we are in south central KY too that makes a difference.
Bought this 3 days ago at Whole foods for 39.99 in a suburb of Chicago and have found it on rare occasion at Binny's for 40-50 bucks. Its more expensive because it won bourbon of the year in 2019. Just cuz you overpaid shouldn't mean its a skip. William larue weller btac is one of the best bourbons ever, and its a skip at full secondary like anything else is at full secondary. Pappy 15 one of the best ever a skip for me at full secondary just like anything else is. The last 2 ive had were barreled in 2011, and my most recent was barreled 8/19/2013 barrel number 15500
💯% agree. When it was 40 bucks it was a buy every now and again for me, but price went up every year, at 70 I feel like I'm being ripped off. It's now allocated near me but it's always the last to go of the allocated bottles on the shelf. It's not worth their asking price imo.
I've noticed the same thing here. It was allocated about a year ago and now it's on the shelf and it's there for a long time. It's definitely not flying off the shelf like it used to.
Picked up 4 bottles (barreled 9/27/2013) at Costco Daytona grand opening last week @$49.99 per. Highly allocated here in northeast Florida. Saw some for sale at Total Wine several months ago priced at $75, which I passed on. $50 would be the highest I would pay. Appreciate your review.
I think I'd take a chance on another bottle just to compare it to the one I have now. A lot of people love this bottle so I think I owe it to everyone to try another bottle. Maybe I just have a not so good single barrel.
I've been through a few bottles and got 3 recently in Central Maryland at $58. So many people are looking for bourbon with non-traditional bourbon flavors. I seriously enjoyed HK 10 and found its quite satisfying. I dislike anything double oaked, infused, finished ect.
This was always one that was high up on my list to try, but highly allocated in northern Indiana. Finally found it and man do I love it. Price at the shop I found it at was $49.99 👍🏻
I got my bottle of Henry McKenna after it won Best in Show at the SF World Spirits Competition. As you said, it was a great deal when it sold for under $40. Now it's closer to $60 here in SoCal.
I like my bottle. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I just think the price is too high, but that can be said about a lot of whisk(e)y these days.
You can find these on shelves here on occasion. It's about $70 here. I've got bottle 12677. This is a really nice pour in the backyard during the summer. I do like this one but it is not a go-to bottle.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing. I'll be interested to see what others say about it in the comments. So far it's receiving more positive than negative responses. Cheers.
Oh yeah the price is up there similar to AZ but I found a new honey hole where I live in FL that gets it every once and a while for around $60 to $70@@whiskeyisajourney
Just bought 2 bottles, the only 2 they had left. Loved my first bottle 7-25-13. The only bourbon my wife will drink on the rock. I love it fo 50.00 plus tax.
I finally rebought a bottle of Henry McKenna after 5 years. I only had ones bottled in March or April and they sucked. They were $38ish around then. Now they’re $57 each and still heavily allocated. At the $59 price they just sit on shelves now.
I need to pick up another bottle and compare it to the one I have. A lot of people love this bottle and I find it hard to believe that I could be that far off of what other people are saying. I'm wondering if I don't have a good single barrel.
HM BiB magically appeared at the local Costco about 3 months ago. Three guesses who walked out with a case at $51 each. Love this juice and it was nowhere to be found for two years.
I just got a couple of bottles for $65 off the shelve at a local, but these aren't everywhere in Massachusetts. Still haven't cracked them. I hear there can be bad bottles so I hope these aren't one of them! But they look darker like the better ones are supposed to be so... Both Barrel # 14699 and bottled 7/31/13.
I need to pick up another bottle and compare it to this one. I find it hard to believe that so many people like this bottle and this one is just not hitting my pallet. I think I got a not so good Single Barrel.
It’s a sip for me but have to agree that $70 is a lot to shell out. I have 2: one purchased for $35 about a year ago in TX and a backup just purchased at Thanksgiving for $55 in GA. It’s considered allocated in my area (TX to TN) so when I found it last month I said what the heck.
Nicely done Peter! I’ve had bottles from two different barrels one was a little better than the other but both seemed to be very dependent on the day…..sometimes they were very nice and other days they didn’t do much for me. So, this one is probably a skip for me as well.
Anthony Peters @graveshotx mentioned that the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof is just slightly more expensive and better. I agree with him. I'd get that over this going forward.
Definitely a sip. I really enjoy HMc BiB it $50 here on Maui and that’s a deal considering how expensive it is to live here. Love your channel keep it up… Cheer’s 🥃
I tried it last night! I thought it was great! I loved the spice at the end because it doesn’t linger like a cheap harsh whisky! It goes back to smooth if that makes sense
It makes sense to me. I'm happy you liked it. I'm still thinking that I got a not so great single barrel. There are a bunch of them sitting on the shelf right now at my local liquor store. I might pick one up and compare the two bottles. Cheers!
My 1st bottle was great, especially at $45. Just bought my 2nd bottle at $50, but haven't opened it yet. Curious to see the difference in the two single barrels. I'm with you if it's over $50, I think I'm a pass at $70. Great vid
As this video gets traction I'll be interested to see what people think of the bottle based on the prices they paid and if there is variation bottle to bottle.
I bought today in my neck of the woods of nj and was a lucky find and was not $70. Got this after tax for $54 and change. This is delicious and worth the $54
I just did a full review of this bottle. Video comes out Monday. I was hoping for more. The past few times I had it I liked it and it was trending up on my list of good bottles, but it did not do so well in the full review.
My neighbor just gave me a bottle today that she found in her basement that was gifted to her husband a few years ago. Bottled on 12/27/07 ,,barrel 4726..unopened. Can’t wait to taste it…
I get it at Costco for just under $70 out the door, but thats because WA liquor taxes are insane. It’s on the shelves around here, but at museum prices if not at Costco.
@@whiskeyisajourney I will say, I cant stand Evan Williams BiB(other than in old fashioneds), and I have 1792 Bib and think thats pretty good, especially next to regular 1792. But Henry McKenna 10 year BiB is the best BiB I’ve had. Im still waiting to get Col Taylor to compare. Not normally a BiB guy as i like higher proof, but I always keep one of these in stock on my bar. 8/10 for me. It’s next to old forester 1910/1920, Eagle rare, woodford DO, and even JD 10 year for me
Wow. So ironic. I just had my first sip of Henry McKenna about an hour ago and I posted my tasting notes on IG. I am very curious to see this review, it being so fresh in my mind. Additional: I did not get cherry at all. I got a ton of caramel, gala apple, and pleasant wood notes.
@@whiskeyisajourney - that is kinda the thing. In my tasting notes I said that she was go for her price. Having said that I got her for under $50. Before That, I had seen her occasionally at Total Wine and stores for $75-80. At that price she is a no-go.
Favorite bourbon ever...Wow. Now you have me curious. If the price increased to 70, 80 or 90 dollars would it still be worth it to you? What value do you put on this bottle?
There's a surprising amount of flavor variation in Henry McKenna. I personally like my bottle, but considering I can get a Elijah Craig Barrel Proof or store pick for not much more, it'd be a skip for me as well
I am seeing it on the shelf in my area all the time now. It was allocated and now it's not. I wonder if it's getting too expensive for people and they can't sell it like they used to.
I used to purchase this when it was available in the $30-$40 range. I have consistently passed on this bottle at these present prices. I enjoyed it back then. My experience with McKenna 10 is that it would underwhelm at the $70 price locally. Easily find better for same or less. Too many Whiskies have overshot and outstripped their value/sipping experience. Cheers.
Don’t see it in my area but for 70 when I can get a Russell’s single for 68 I’m going with the Russell all day. And pricing is getting crazy I can get a HH BIB for 48 so 3 more years add 30 for the 10? Pass.
The last time I had it it didn't taste as good. So I'd say it would have to be closer to the lower range of the $50-60. Although I might just pick one up to compare to this current bottle and see if it's any better. I find it hard to believe that so many people love this bottle for it to be just "okay" for me. It has to be my single barrel....right?
