      Thank you so much Paul!! It is truly my pleasure to help in any way I can. When I first started building village landscapes, I spent more money than I should have trying to fix mistakes that I made in my first few builds. With each build I would learn more and try new things. My hope for my videos was to help others avoid mistakes I made and also provide tips I’ve learned over the years that have made things better. I am happy to know that my videos are being received in the manner I was hoping for. Thanks so much for your compliment!

My 7 year old and I watched this video together and he was struck by how much hard work you put into it and the obvious joy it brought you. What a lovely lesson to be able to share with him-- that hard work and fun are not diametrically opposed and when you get the right balance you can create something amazing :-)

    I was wondering what top coat product do you recommend? The one on your video ( Valspar project perfect Top coat flat ) Valspar doesnt make anymore. Or i just cant seem to find that particular one online anywhere. I have seen the gloss and Satin ones but i am assuming the flat will be better right?

      Hello, are you using the top coat for your lake or for another part of your build? If you are using for your lake, you can definitely use the satin top coat. If you are using to seal the paint on your mountain, you can also try a different brand. You might have luck with Krylon.

My Mom recently found your channel and has been watching all your holiday decorating videos, especially the ones about your Christmas village. Where can I find styrofoam thin enough to see through for my lake and river? I've only been able to locate 1/4 in. at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. That seems too thick to have to fill with realistic water since it is rather expensive.

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Pam, the 1/4 inch foam might be as thin as you can buy it. I got my thin piece from a package I received and I saved it. What you can do is buy the 1/4” and take your hot wire and lower the edge line and create a slope into the lake to an 1/8” once you have it laid. That way you won’t have to fill the lake to 1/4”.
      Hope this helps. 😄

    Ok I think I might MIGHT attempt this … so now years after yoi made this … knowing what you know now using products you have now like a freehand router and the foam coat stuff from HWFF what techniques would you do differently ? Things you’d do the same ? Also I know one is using foil for the lake … but what else ? Would you have carved this out with your freehand router or still gone the paper and foam pieces route ?
    Thanks for everything you do ! ❤

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey Cari, I’m so excited for you! This is an aggressive build but it was so much fun. So to answer you question of what I would do different, I would definitely use the foam coat over the plaster strips to hide more of the holes. I still like the crumpled paper because of how it forms the rock formations. However, doing it this way does take A LOT more time than just using all foam and carving the foam. Like you mentioned, I would definitely use the foil under the plaster to waterproof and I would have made the waterfall wider. I feel like it’s a bit narrow for such a large mountain. Those are the only things I would do differently.
      Let me know how you are doing along the way! 😁

I have a questions, I followed your video on the creating the gray base, with the rocks on the side. Everything went great, except when I did the flower and water paste it all has cracked and it flaking off of my base. Did I do something wrong with the flour and water paste? I had the plaster strips over the styrofoam pieces, let that dry, and then I put on the flour paste. I would say almost half of it has flaked off. Can you help me with what I might have done wrong here? Thank you so much!

    Instead of using the plaster tape..you can actually use brown paper towels (from restaurants etc) and dip them into hydrocol..which is plaster of paris that dries really super hard. You wet one at time and apply. Very quick to do create mountains. Also if you tape wooden skewers together in a hap hazzard way...and drape your hydrocol over it...its like a scafold for the mountains...super light weight. They use this for train dioaramas. Great video

    Miriam, how wonderful of you to share your amazing talents! I've always wanted my village to be more than just putting Styrofoam under sheets of snow, which is what I've done for far too long. Last year I started collecting Styrofoam from boxes of... whatever (my husband is now calling me a hoarder). I just recently found your channel and wanted to say Thank You for all of your tips, tricks and inspiration!

    Hi, what colours would you recommend to use for the mountain to make a not snowy mountain?

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You can do a gray without snow. Or you could do a brown mountain or a combination of both. I have several videos showing my brown paint colors. I will send you one.

    Have you ever done a fairy mountain?
    As it is right now can it be used outside?
    I loved your work and effort you put into this, thank you!

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Karen, thanks so much!!
      No, I haven’t done a fairy mountain before. You could put this outside in climates that aren’t extreme. The only thing that I would be concerned about being affected is the lake and the waterfall. If I can remember, I believe it might react to heat. If you were just making a mountain, that could defiantly be used outdoors.

    Hi Miriam! Please help! 🙂 I used plaster sheets for the first time this year and I forgot that you said to "smooth it out with your finger when it's still wet" so that the mesh doesn't show. I can see tons of little holes in the mesh. Any suggestions on what I can do about that? I'm guessing paint won't just fill in the holes. Ugh! 🫤

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hello, yes you can fix it. If you get liquid plaster, it will cover all the holes. I have another video where I showed how to do it. I will send you the link.

    Great finished product and thanks for the clear instructions; Very easy to understand and follow. Do you really do a new one every year? Wow. What do you do with them after Christmas...do you throw them out or keep them? I'm trying to design something I can easily store and re-use but it isn't easy. These villages and the displays take up a lot of room ...I need to buy a new house with a big she-shed!

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      😂😂😂. A she shed would be a dream. I do keep most of them and switch them out from year to year. I also sell some once I start accumulating to many.

    Does anyone have an opinion about plaster cloth from Michaels vs Woodland Scenic ?

    • @MiriamsManner
      @MiriamsManner  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven’t yet used woodland scenic plaster strips but I LOVE all of their products. I have used about 12 different types of their other products and they have all been great. With that being said, I have used Michaels plaster and it works really well. Their is a lot of powder plaster on the strip so it has less gauze holes than other brands.

I have suggestions on how I do it as well as comments I shared from the group with great ideas on how they hide their cords. I have attached both links below. Hope this helps.
