Very glad to see the handsome Talat sahib. I saw all his films in the first run and had pleasure to meet him twice. It is his only film in which he acted so natural. He acted a bit serious in his other films Waris, Dil e Naadan, Malik , Dak babu to my mind ,of course, that was the trend then. I also liked his Deewali ki Raat which bombed at box office. Samundari Daku was not suitable for his personality. Very jovial, soft spoken in real life.
This story is so relevant even today. I am surprised that even as early as 1958, the movie industry was plagued with evils such as exploitation. The scene where the people are shown waiting for an opportunity to make it big in the world of cinema applies even to present times. Nice story.

She is rich enough to support both of them. :) No need to give up her hard earned money. Lovely movie. Balraj Sahni and Nutan are perfect couple. Both sober and sweet. Liked the movie BTW, it shows the dark underbelly of most glamorous profession. The pain of extras and so many actors and actresses shamelessly exploited. Liked it more because of happy ending. :)

Not many know that there's a threat of court case against the products of the movie by Nargis's family as the story resembled her life story. Talat Mahmood's character is supposed to be Raj Kapoor . Nargis was a bigger actress when they met, and the gossip was that when Raj K built R K studio in Chembur, Nargis bore most of the construction cost !!
