    Screw at 8:01 is suppose to be in the bottom of the matrix securing the pipes.

    I've been watching car resto programs for 5 years. That is the first time I've seen anyone change the heater matrix....how cool is that😊😚😃🙏

      I dunno, he’s just been doing it for years and there’s nothing on p80 volvos he doesn’t know it has filmed!

    To the me watching this again 4 months from now, you thought you were so smart putting that radweld in to fix the matrix, but you knew this day would come.

      it wasn't too bad of a job, just a little messy and requires some interesting yoga moves

    There is no requirement for sealant or gasket on the joint you mentioned between the core end moulding and the white pod it sits in.

    I should have mentioned when I sent you the link on facebook; when I changed my matrix, I totally flushed my cooling system with clean water first, so all that was spilled inside was water, and only added antifreeze when I was sure there were no leaks.

    • @GeoffBuysCars
      @GeoffBuysCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah this did cross my mind, but knowing my luck i'd have filled it with clean water then got stuck or had to do something, and then it would have frozen solid in the cold....! i've taken it a drive out and all seems to be honky dorey, very pleased to have sorted this!

  • @bsales3101
    @bsales3101 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Geoff, you barbarian. You've chopped your underlay out. Matrix exits the drivers (right) side. I actually thought it was impossible to get it out the left side. 😬
    Good vid. 💪

    Although fiddly it looks a lot more straightforward that I’d envisaged from the horror stories online. A useful video GBC, if only to reassure the faint hearted home mechanics!

      I gather the heater matrix on this car is easy when compared to some others! Was made easier by the fact i've had my carpets out so many times...!

    Thanks for the video Geoff, I thought about changing the tubes to the connection and the connection in the firewall as well when I change the radiator.

    • @GeoffBuysCars
      @GeoffBuysCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I considered this too, but then I figured, if it ain't broke... The 'quick coupling' and the pipes themselves are available from Volvo.

    • @guignolification
      @guignolification 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@GeoffBuysCars Yes they are. My thought is, that part lasted 26 years, if I change it now, I don't have to worry about it again in my life. But you are absolutely right, I am not so fond of changing working parts.

    • @GeoffBuysCars

      @@guignolification I think if mind had been an early car with steel pipes, i'd have changed all of it, but the ally pipes seem fine

    The old bolt hole is for the amp bracket if you have one. It has a mate on the other side.

    a 2l bottle with the base cut off and a puppy mat does wonders to keeping the floor dry!!

    • @GeoffBuysCars
      @GeoffBuysCars  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I could have been better prepared for that part of the video, ha ha! I'd read in a few places that not much drains out.... wrong. It was pretty much all of it. Once I'm sure it's fixed, i'll get some new insulation and install the carpets. Excited to have it back on the road, I have another video coming on this car with a few other bits i've been tinkering with.

    I did use universal O rings but i don't remember the size, i have a kit with many of them, doesnt leak since few thousands kilometers now. Very easy on this car tho, but on 240/740/940 it's fucking pain.
