Its nice to hear some reality on Paul Cotter. I cant say that I've seen a ton of the guy, but I have seen a ton of Holtz. And that trade should not have gotten the hate that it did. Vegas didnt fleece as so many people think just because Holtz was a 7th overall pick 4 years ago. He has a nice scoring touch but not much else. And Cotter might be the more well rounded NHLer considering he can probably score 10 goals, win faceoffs and throw some hits around. At this point I'd almost bet he was floated in the trade talks with Timo and Toffoli and the Sharks and Flames wanted Zetterlund and Sharangovich. I can see why both teams made the trade, but the amount of hate Fitz got from Devils "fans" on that trade was pretty disheartening. Almost as disheartening as realizing Holtz's limited trade value. In any event Cotter can fill a need greatly missed by McLeod not being there last season which was something not many people mention when talking about the Devils struggles. He was finally coming around to being a productive NHL player and then...well ya know

For me this is the definition of “making a move to make a move”. Marino in all reality is of equal value of Brett and fills the same role. Marino along with many others had huge down years due to the injuries. This is not much of a move and anyone who thinks so is drinking copium or does not understand how aging defenders in this age range regress. In fact you mentioned how they will “get more hits”… Funny thing is Marino (39 hits) actually laid more hits then Brett (25 hits). In fact in the past 5 seasons Brett Pesce has never had as many or more hits than Marino.
