      @DUKE_PLANET ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Late ass reply. What have you done 7 months later? I bought the 50 as my first amp, but I'm really considering to start getting into pedals, and the lack of an FX loop on the 50 has me thinking I should sell it and get a 100, or maybe even a different amp all together.

      @NorHeadHunter ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DUKE_PLANET Dont sell it, get a 50 EX as it comes with an effects loop and you can slave the regular 50 to it for stereo

      @@NorHeadHunter But, I thought he just said in the video that the 50 EX DOESN'T come with the effects loop?? Asking not out of sarcasm, but because I'm trying to decide between 50 EX and 100. Thanks

      @NorHeadHunter 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@kajikanna I looked it up and it doesn't come with an effects loop like I thought, weird. It just adds support for the footswitch.

    • @niteriderband4713
      @niteriderband4713 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@NorHeadHunter @kajikanna The 50 ex has a line out so I think you can run that to the looper and run the looper output to the aux in. That way you could use the looper and still turn your guitar volume up, etc and that should work. You would need a 1/4" to 1/8" connector but they are available. Honestly, I have a looper, I never use it...they suck to get the timing right.

    I know people are claiming that they'd go with the 100 watt all day. For people with a budget like me and can't afford anything higher, the katana 50 is def worth it.

    • @sirbaguette8378
      @sirbaguette8378 2 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      Problem with the 50 is that the more you use it, the more you'll realise how limiting it is. For example, the fact that you can't change tone while looping and there's not a lot of presets as well as the boss footswitch not being compatible
      Where I live, the 50w is €250 and the 100w is €375. So it'd be way better to just invest in the 100w straight away, rather than buying the 50w, then eventually upgrading to the 100w.

      @@sirbaguette8378 Hey, where I live, the 50 costs around 335$ and the 100 around 520$, would you still recomend going with the 100? Since the 50 is out of stock, should I save up for the 100? I don´t really care about tone switch or looping, at the most I would like wah.

    • @bigrig4385
      @bigrig4385 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I have both. They are both great amps. The 50 inspired me more than my Marshall stack when I heard the built in effects. I was blown away that I could have one guitar and one $200 amp, and make such incredible sounds without any pedals. It's worth getting the 50 and messing with the knobs until you know the settings in and out, because it's loud, sounds great, and is so versatile.

    • @bigrig4385
      @bigrig4385 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      ^^ Everything I said about the 50w also applies to the 100w. If you are gigging, you might want the 100. If you are just a bedroom warrior, you'll be more than happy with either of them.

    For your viewers trying to decide between the 50 and 100, I can offer my experience. I played the 50 for four years and loved it. I did not need the power of the 100, but i wanted the effects loop and the capabilities of the GA-FC foot controller. I absolutely love both, and should have made the upgrade sooner. Aside form the added features that most videos mention, I think that the 100 actually sounds better than the 50....and quite noticeably so.

    I bypassed this looper limitation on Katana 50 using this method, which is not THAT practical, but It's useful if you don't want to use a PC or anything else beyond the guitar's gear.
    I have a simple pedalboard (distortion, chorus and reverb/delay) and I use this pedalboard with the Looper on the very end of it, and I use an 6.35mm to 3.5mm jack adapter and plug that line of effects on the 3.5mm Aux In of Katana.
    Doing this I can use my pedalboard to generate an specific tone and record the looper sesson, and then using another 6.35mm cable I do plug my guitar on the Katana input to use its tone.
    The drawback of doing this is that you need to switch the 6.35mm jack cable on the guitar everytime you want to record another loop session to play over it and sometimes is kinda annoying to switch cables, but it's doable.

    Whoop-de-dooper loop! This was an excellent explanation! This was exactly what I was looking for... I also discovered that when using my Katana 50, a couple pedals inserted before the looper can be nice too, especially if I just want to be modifying my sound with an additional effect: Like going from a clean sound with just reverb and/or delay to an overdriven sound for a solo boost.

    I’m a born again musician on guitar 🎸 as of two years ago-originally a sax player-and just bought the 50 as an upgrade to my Marshall 15 watt solid state amp Ive been playing until now. I have a looper, a tube screamer, and that’s it.
    Since I’m still keeping things pretty basic as I figure out the Boss and what pedals I’m going to buy, it works out fine for now with the only effect difference I can control between loop overdubs being the tube screamer.
    I plan to build a full on pedal board, but until then I can do great with the Katana’s big library off effects I don’t really know yet. Even just reverb, I didn’t know the difference in the types until I tried each on the Katana.

But I told her, this is about guys stuff. No Shampoos, no conditioners, just guitars. ;-)

    There is one sentence that is very important that is missing: "Make sure the channel that goes to the loop has send and return ON".
    There is one switch that must be turned "on", otherwise it would not work. I was so frustrated there was nobody mentioned this. I searched every where no explanation about it. I was ready to bring it to the service center since I thought mine was damaged. Thank you very much Chief and Cheers from Indonesia. (whoopy dooper loop or something like that. 😃 )

      Hahaha yeah. I recently bought the RC-1, got it home and could not get the Effects loop to work for love or money. Thankfully an old Reddit post pointed me towards checking with Boss Tone Studio. Like yourself, I discovered it was set to off on each channel.

    Whoopty Dooper Loop 👍 Been thinking for a while about getting the Katana 50 but after stumbling across this video while scrolling it would definitely be better to get the 100. 2 reasons,1st reason is it would be loud enough to rock with other musicians instead of hauling around my half stack. 2nd of course would be the FX Loop. Im so thankful 🙏 I'm in the position to be able to choose and i hope that other people that would love to have the 100 will be able to get one as well! Thanks for posting and helping me make a decision 🤘

    Great to the point video Andy. Thank you :). I have a couple of small practice amps and have been thinking about getting a decent mid-range tube amp but I'll admit it would be way overkill for my basic skills.I'm now definitely considering a Katana 100 head since I have a reasonable cab taking up space already and like the idea of the portability of the head with its small inbuilt speaker. Anyway your vids have been great for filling in some gaps and explaining the differences in the range so thanks again. WHOOOOP DE DOOOPER LOOOOOP

      @@TheGuitarGeek I agree completely. I'm only in it for fun and rehab (gotta keep the arthritic hands moving) so it's simply what sort of sound do I find appealing and can afford to indulge. But I can't ignore my practical side :))

    My choice would have been the 100 if my budget allowed it, but went for the MKII 50. Was not as wowed at first, but now that I have figured out Tone Control Studio and began to learn the amp I can't wait to plug in and play every day. Whoop de dooper looper.

    Whoopty-duper Loop. Great video. I have an effects modeler board that includes a looper, so the effects loop capability is less of a want for me. Certainly answers the question of which one of the two Katanas I'll probably be going for.

    Hi there thanks for the video. I have a Vox AC 10 and A Katana 50 and I use a stereo looper (Boomerang). I use a lot of strymon pedals for ambient guitar in Stereo so the Katana 50 is more then enough to pair with my small Vox.

    I have a katana 50 which my son has pretty much taken over. I was thinking of getting another amp and have been considering and researching the different katana kompetitors… I keep coming back to katana and I think I will now opt for the 100!

    Could you do a video explaining how to define a patch that uses an expression pedal to control something besides volume, like a wah pedal or controlling the gain or boost? Also, is there any difference between plugging the expression pedal into the GA-FC vs the amp?
