I fabricated better-looking stuff on my "humble" DEC Alpha in 1995. At full broadcast resolution mind you. "you had to have rooms of server farms, dozens of SGIs or several dozen PCs" Large studios, yes. At Amblin (and later Foundation) we just had our desktop machines to do the job...and these were already mid-sized operations.
