In this video Peter looks at the Ringerike style. He delves into an original piece of Viking age stone carving, and recreates it with his own flare, all whilst staying true to the original design.
He discusses his methods of modifying the original piece to flow and contour a better designed version for the human anatomy. This is demonstrated with a digital walkthrough of the actual process created on his computer.

When I see these old engravings it's like seeing long lost letters from my grandparents.

Especially love your critique of how people use viking age motifs as sorta clipart to be pasted on whatever item one fancies. Its such an overlooked "problem". I die a little bit every time I see the mammen axe motifs fisted into the shape of a mjønir. Its so true that the shape of the art they made was dictated or informed by the shape that they worked on. Site note the secondary animal is also prominently featured on the later urnes brooches as a snake that intertwines with the main beast. Early styles also had these "filler" animals in the form of snakes (mammen espacially) of smaller mammals in the gripping style of borre.

Have you experimented with all styles in your tattoo work? What do you mostly use? And is that your choice or the client?
I think i have touched on all of them, some much more than others, some almost unintentional. I studied my way through them all earlier in my career, and the books are my way of getting to do that one more time :)

BlackMantraInk some styles more than others though, but what I like is that you’ve taken whichever that style is and really pushed it to be something new in its own right with your own twist, and made it unique to the person wearing it. I can see all sorts of influences in your past designs, ie portals, stones, jewellery/fabrics etc aswell, do you find you’re always looking for that new element to use in your designs?
Emma Dawe for sure, and i enjoy trying to explore different angles/themes than most would deem the logical choice :)
What digital equipment do you use to create your art on?
Ipad pro with a pen is my usual choice, but i do tend to draw on paper first

1: don’t worry about that. What languages works better for you?
2: Ipad pro. If you do not draw professionally, start with a used one, save some money.
3: yeah, the book is more visual than text-based
