This is a dream synth for me - my favorite type of synthesis and extreme portability! Love the color as well - got so tired of boring black boxes. You can easily play a couple of hours of ambient/experimental music with just this thing. Bravo 1010music!
Oh no, I wish I hadn't seen this, great sound and control over the wave form, touch screen is a nice performance feature and looks good to take on the go too
Again, my thanks to Sweetwater for picking probably the most under-rated demo man in the industry these days (as opposed to Disney voice-over rejects, aspiring salesmen, over-dressed/under-developed hipster duos and the like), our good friend and reserved tech specialist Mr. Fisher, whose keen ear for ambience and dissonance remain unmatched in the often irritating world music/tech content. -Always the right man for the right machines, today being NO exception. I would have picked up the Lemondrop, anyway (at roughly $400.00, who wouldn't?!), but this demo definitely sealed the deal. Thanx again!
A lot of people are saying it is too expensive, but though it is a bit out of reach for me without saving up, what else sounds like this at the price range without relying on VSTs? It is quite cool. I'd jump on it if it was $100 less, but as it is I'll keep it in mind for a day where I feel a little flush. I'm just looking for gear that fills the gaps in my current live rig with no laptop. And damned if this doesn't fit right in.
I have a 7 year old and he has 2 keyboards and one of my guitars and after digging this intro i will be claiming to get this for him but of course it will be for me!
Plus points: sound quality Minus points: price (100 quids less would have been more appropriate IMO), cheap looking plastic housing I bet Behringer will answer soon... and thanks to D. Fisher for letting the instrument speak for itself, without constant voice-over
Didn't hesitate to pull the trigger on this and fireball, good job Daniel. All I originally started out to do was update my blackbox to 2.0, that's it, not to sound like Han Solo or anything, but it's not my fault! hahahaha.
If there was a pitch mode that enabled you to separate the pitch from the play speed of the sample (like the roland elastic audio v synth approach) this thing would have a stronger case for the price point in my eyes. More granular options is always great though. DF always bringing the demo magic as the synth god that he is lol.
Hi Fire Sail Studios. The external Eurorack oscillator was set to a fixed pitch. So all four of the processed notes you were hearing are examples of the Lemondrop's ability to change the pitch of either the internal or external samples, which is awesome. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
Hi Sweetwater. Can you use a DC5.0V wall charger to power the Lemondrop? I use it to charge my phone and KYBERS-light saber, and it works great. Thank You!
@@sweetwater Hi Daniel. My charger says on the back, minimum 150Mah and Maximum 2100 Mah, would this charger work? if not what would you recommend, as I would love to purchase the Lemondrop, but want the correct power source. Thank You Daniel Expanding Knowledge
Granular synthesis is the sheeeeit. I feel like it is the last "new" or "futuristic" sound that will ever be invented. Who knows though. Maybe there are still new futuristic sounds to be invented or discovered and it is only my failure of our imaginations that no one has thought of it. Regardless, I love it. Gorgeous, chaotic, textural, and futuristic!
Additive synthesis is the future, it’s just too resource intensive and nobody has managed to make an intuitive/versatile frontend for additive synthesis.
This is the best product review. He uses a keyboard controller to show the depth and flexibility of the the devices. This guy OWNED that electro harmonix Ego Syth engine pedal in the demo he did awhile back on Syths and guitar pedals.
Hi. You say that you can send a modular synth in the external input, but, in the site, it says max 2Vrms. In confused and I wouldn't want to break the Nanobox Lemondrop with a input level that's too high. 2Vrms is equivalent to what V level peak to peak when we're talking of a sine wave?
Hi Ben. You'd probably have to put the mic through a preamp first and then adapt it down to an 1/8" TS cable. But you should know that the input signal gets buffered by several seconds so that it can be manipulated forward and backward in time. -_Daniel_
Hi bloothbub. I received the prototype Fireball and Lemondrop units before there was a manual, so I'll have to dig and learn if Program Changes are implemented. But I do know for sure that MIDI CCs can be freely assigned to *any* of the parameters that have three Modulation Sources, and that the CC#s can be any number from 1-127. The samples, whether they're pre-loaded factory samples, or samples you've added, all live on the 32GB SD card and are loaded on demand. -_Daniel_
hello daniel..my question is ..could you have multiple lemon drops playing all going through maybe a 1010 mixer..just wondered if this is posible or would it sound bad
Hi whiteperill. All samples live on the SD card. You can add you own samples to the SD card, but you have to create the samples on your laptop or other device. -_Daniel_
First shout out to SWeetwater for their service, their patience, and my PolyEnd Tracker..Now here you go,with another gem,so I guess I will be ordering my Lemondrop soon..These gadgets along with my hardware samplers will give me a reason not to buy more keyboards...
Every granular synth demo is all about ambient weird shit. Wonderful. How about doing one where you sample a lead from a trance track and replicate it? Try Madagascar ferry corsten remix.
Granular synths are good at creating new sounds out of ones that already exist, which is good for experimental ambient. Mono synths are ideal for leads. You can try to play, what sounds like a, guitar solo with a violin if you want but it's best just to use a guitar.

It might be named the Lemondrop 🍋but it sure sounds sweet! Check out this pint-sized synthesis powerhouse from 1010music.
Incredible synth! We are in a golden age.

Can it trigger and over lap more than one sample at a time?
This synth is poking fun at my new year no gear weakness. Awesome, Dan!
Love the sounds around 7:40, some really nice Burial-esque sounds. Thanks for a great demo, Daniel!
that thing truly is a magic box.....
did a lot with FL Granulizer 15 years ago...very exciting to see such a small Granular device on the market now!
Oh no, I wish I hadn't seen this, great sound and control over the wave form, touch screen is a nice performance feature and looks good to take on the go too
I’ve watched almost all your reviews… this is one of the best. You’ve definitely earned your position with SW! Hooah brother 😎
Hi M C. I certainly hope so. I started here at Sweetwater in 1994. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_
When the person demoing the product spends so much time not even talking, and just playing around with it, I call that a good sign.
When Dan Fisher gets handed a lemondrop, he instantly makes lemonade - its always cool, refreshing and hits the spot for a thirsty artist.
All this cacophony coming out of a little yellow box Daniel, must be the Voodoo that you do so well! Love it!👍
If I’m ever asked to do a soundtrack for the next Exorcist movie I’m going to buy one of these
So the Sunny packaging is just a ploy too draw You into the black mass ?
That Numa and the l.d sounds so cool!
In a way, the ultimate mellotron.

This is the best demo you have ever done and I've been sold. Thanks!
Dan, nice job mate! This demo is insane. Digg'n the Lemondrop.
I will get one. Fantastic little machine
You had me at "no limit".
This would so be a great device to do soundtracks for horror films. It literally sounds like something in a Stephen King movie.
I have a 7 year old and he has 2 keyboards and one of my guitars and after digging this intro i will be claiming to get this for him but of course it will be for me!
A 7-year-old who understands granular synthesis is the coolest thing I've heard today tho.
Well, it does look as though it was designed by, and for, a seven year-old. However, it doesn’t mean that I don’t want one…
That bit with the “he’s so fine” vocal was downright creepy! I’ll be surprised if I don’t have nightmares after hearing that!
cEvin kEy needs one of these ASAP!
6:53 😳 yikes super eery with headphones!
Is that all from the lemondrop and the piano?
Hi Caleb. Except for the performances at the very end *everything* came directly out of the Lemondrop. -_Daniel_
@@sweetwater wow! Thanks Daniel
Damn I was really getting satisfied with my setup but this one is something special!!
When I saw these, I called them mustard and ketchup lol
What a cool job, I like granular.. Soundscape on.

I'm gonna politely disagree, this is a hardware granular synth, the only other one I know of is 2500 bucks made by waldorf...
@@gossamyr tasty chips gr-1 850$ 11 voices poly. I'm gonna buy a lemondrop though.

It is complete. Now I can sound like Jexus.
Hi Sweetwater. Can you use a DC5.0V wall charger to power the Lemondrop? I use it to charge my phone and KYBERS-light saber, and it works great. Thank You!
Hi EK. The Lemondrop and Fireball can run off a 5V DC charger as long as it's rated at 500 mA or higher. Thanks for watching! -_Daniel_

What a strange and spooky world this thing creates! I don't understand how the vocal words/speech-like sounds are created?
When life gives you lemons, make Lemondrops.
I basically have no space left on my desk (purposefully, so I can't get more gear) but I think one of these would definitely fit 🤭
Sold me. An amazing piece of kit.

More sounds will be discovered.

Can you use this without an external device playing it? Like are there any buttons to just play and loop the voices on certain “notes?”
There's a performance grid demo'ed at 5:50. I don't think there's a sequencer or arpeggiator.
How do you set it up to use an external oscillator? I picked one of these up, but can't figure that bit out.
Hi Brent. Push "Home" button. Set Line Thru to a high %.
On the Oscillator page, Turn "Live Input" to On.
