Cooperating with your average Russian radio enthusiast seems innocuous enough, can't see why anyone would have a problem with that. Now if someone with a heavy accent calls and wants you to start sending alphanumeric transmissions, maybe take a step back 😅
I know a Russian who was able to call Roscosmos directly, the reason Meteor M2-4 was offline is because they were updating something on it and had to wait until it finished.
I can confirm the LRPT signal is working perfectly! I managed to get a pretty nice image this afternoon on my V dipole with no filters and an SDR blog V4!
I've known a lot of Russians through my around the world expat life. They are a bunch of humans like the rest of us and as we say in Oz ..... Generally good c#$nts...... It's not the people. It's the governments and media machines that segregate us all. I vote save it for parts as president and spiritual leader of our Worldwide open source ground based radio telescope and SETI array and SATCOM system for all of the free folks all over the world. All of them. Yay!!
I like the Pi on the roof with the antenna. Most point to multipoint "WiFi" radios and antennas are one POE-powered unit. I wonder why the HAM and other radio guys don't do the same. They are using SDR already, so why not have less cable and interference and then connect through a computer? Is it "too many old guys" or "that's not how we did it in the old days" type of thing?
2:30 I noticed that you recorded with the center frequency as 137.5MHz so if you want to decode it on satdump offline processing tab then you have to put the frequency shift to +400kHz so that it looks at the 137.1MHz frequency, I had to do this offset when I tried recording the baseband at a different frequency than the satellite and then later processing it in satdump.
I love your videos! Ive always wanted to get into this kind of thing but never knew where to start. You are such a inspiration, I can never miss a video of yours 😅
These are very good news, my Raspberry Pi 5 is not ready for use yet, I'm still waiting for the SSD. The antenna on the roof is very good, if it can move in the wind like reeds, it won't bend and break so easily. The picture turned out very well, considering the signal has to travel some distance to reach your antenna, it's expected to have some interference. Very nice video, thank you for sharing it with us.
This is so cool. I love seeing these satellite images when you share them, I live in the UP so it's fun to see. What do the different colors represent?
The best part is if we had spaceships we'd totally be "salvaging" these satellites. "Hey Dave. Why you got that old LandSAT sitting in the yard? That thing is junk"
Very good. I’m must get around to that one day. I just watch them go over using my giant rabbit ears. You might want to get hold of a set and do a review. Great between 6.8mhz to 140?mhz
@@saveitforparts Yes. I saw the rabbit ears you used but may have missed the giant ones if you did them. I was trying to talk about the Chinese units with 5m extended length on each side , plus loading coils that can be put on the base, a balun in the base, and a shorting bridge that goes across the base to help tune it. There are even frequency marks engraved onto the rods for tuning without a vna.
Maybe you could try and use an active panel like the starlink instead the dish, would be interesting, even if only to get it working and discover it won't fit or perform poorly. You know, just to prove it can be done. Best regards from Brazil.
Had a pass over Norway here a few minutes ago and there was no sign of a LRPT signal anywhere on the 137MHz satellite band. This was backed up by another station except me. So it might actually be disabled again.
When do you build your antenna array at sand land? :D I would really enjoy you getting into observing operations like Russian Kosmos 2542/43 in LEO or Luch-Olymp in GEO. They launched Luch-5X (or Olymp-K-2) last year.
That’s, fantastic! Russian scientists and amateur radio operators, are not the government, so I don’t understand why you have detractors, simply because you colaberated with Russian amateur satellite enthusiasts. And I think, not only should politics not be discussed, political alliances, change (Americans volunteered to help the Chinese fight the Japanese in the beginning of WW2. Now China is rising in military power, and Japan is an American allie. Sting’s (singer) song “Russians”, was far more diplomatic about the cold-war, than today’s pundits. “On either side of the political fence We share the same biology, regardless of ideology Believe me when I say to you I hope the Russians love their children to” And, congratulations on successfully decoding a Meteor satellite signal. I hope to replicate your results, soon.
And LRPT shut off again at around 14:30 UTC today, I don't know if it's back on since then. EDIT: Apparently it was off for some time and it's back on again.

I think it is not a problem that you did that video with the russian school, because its a school project and it isnt transmitting propaganda like " Ukraine doesnt exist" or similar. I would have definetly dropped a negative comment on that video if it was closely related to the government or sending you propaganda.
The views of the government don't necessarily reflect the views of the people. But of course being vocal about that is dangerous to their health. I understand the sentiment with their situation, but it's a really misguided opinion to just think Russia bad

Which is exactly why reputable sources like, you know, the satdump devs, said it was never dead in the first place.
That's super cool
@@MrOpenGL I told this video host the same thing, and there are plenty of sources advising such, but he did not seem to listen.

If Russians had 10 cents for every time an American said something stupid they'd be able to buy back Alaska 😂

depends on the composite. SatDump got information about those now

Can’t wait to give this a try
I think the reason you aren't getting any LRPT images is because the signal in sdr++ is not centred. You just have to adjust the offset in sat dump
I tried using and offiset and actually tried recording a 2nd pass, still couldn't get anything from LRPT.
