  • The Zongshen 190cc pit bike engine runs for the first time! Our shifter full suspension yard kart is really taking shape- in today's episode, we install a rack and pinion steering box, install the oil cooler, fabricate an air scoop, hook up our wiring and fire up the 190cc 5 speed engine for the first time! These pit bike 190cc engines are crazy responsive. This ZS 190 makes about 18 horsepower and revs to around 8500 RPM.

    It was almost 30 years ago that I had my 3 yr old son drive my old Maverick the last 100 yards home. He was strapped in his car seat and steering, smiling from ear to ear. I sat beside him, working the gas and brake. We went maybe 5 mph. You shoulda seen Mama's face when she looked out the kitchen window! 😳🤣. I'll never forget it. When he was 10, I let him drive my old Crown Vic around in the big field by the house. Good times.

    May be time to invest in a spool gun or a tig welder so you guys can start making stuff like battery boxes and other things like that out of aluminum to save on weight. Loving the build though, I love these ground up projects!

    For the stater try adding a relay as it might not have enough power to switch the solenoid. On a bosch relay just wire 85 pin to ground 86 pin to the start button 30 pin to the main battery with a 20a fuse and 87 pin to the solenoid. You will just cut the wire from the start button in half the wire coming from the button goes to 86 and the one going to the solenoid goes to 87. If it's a 5 pin bosch you can use either of the 87 pins to the solenoid they are bridged in the relay. We always wire a relay even if the start buttons work cause less chance of burning up the start button or wire when out riding. Hope that helps in this and future projects. Relays are your friend, lol.

    if you put the air scoop under the oil cooler forcing air up you won't have to worry about anything getting stuck and you will get natural flow through it from the heat rising out. you could also make a shroud on top to create a vacuum to pull the hot air out and protect it from flying debris.

    For proper Ackerman angle, you need to draw imaginary lines from your front wheel pivot points to the centerline of the rear axle. The steering levers should be at the same angle as that imaginary line. This will cause the inside front wheel to turn sharper than the outside wheel, which you need since the inside wheel has a smaller turning radius than the outside front wheel.

    • @jaimetarnofsky4149
      @jaimetarnofsky4149 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    • @1one3_Racing
      @1one3_Racing 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@72mardy agree. Whole design is bad. Should be a rear engine. Negative camber. Less scrub radius. More steering angle. Eliminate that steering rack and go with normal go kart steering boss. Shorter and more upright dampners. Calculating spring rate is super simple yet nobody can ever do it and just buys several different springs and is like "yeah, this one feels ok"
      Ackerman is the least of their worries. Especially since it's a dirt kart and Ackerman only comes into play on sticky surfaces.

    Dunno if anyone else has suggested it yet, but your oil cooler scoop doesn't have to be on top. With it on top, forcing air down through the cooler, any mud etc will sit on top of the cooler. You could easily put the scoop underneath, forcing air up through the cooler so the mud etc is more likely to fall away and leave the cooler clear.
