- Join us for part one of a three part film festival & film maker Q&A! SUMMER OF JOY launches on Friday, August 27 at 6:30pm.
Featuring a line up of ALL Transgender, Gender Non-conforming, Intersex, or Two Spirit film makers -- these films will touch on topics and issues related to the trans identity. Review lineup below!
At the end of the screening, Jupiter Peraza will moderate a Q&A and conversation with featured filmmakers Ahya Simone (@ahyasimone), Ami Puri (@ape.uri), Kavi Dhan (@omgitskavi), & Penny Baldado (@cafegabriela)!

"My Beautiful Resistance" by Penny Baldado
Synopsis: From the roots of struggle, My Beautiful Resistance grows vibrantly for an undocumented, queer, person of color.
Bio: A self-taught dreamer, passionate, hardworking, determined, problem solver, leader, and proud of where I came from, where I started.
"Home" by Gato Rodriguez
Synopsis: A young queer/trans Latinx soars Home to connect with his grandma, his culture, and his identity through enchiladas.
Bio: A young trans Latinx artist passionate about using art for social change.
"I Am Kavi" by Kavi Dhan
Synopsis: A South Asian transgender filmmaker strides into who he is.
Bio: A writer and filmmaker with a passion for telling stories.
"La Entrevista" by Bersath Verdugo Dominguez
Synopsis: A luminous trans Latina woman warrior reveals her bravery in La Entrevista.
Bio: Una chica guerrera con sueños de superación preparándose todos los días para llegar al éxito. A warrior woman with empowerment dreams who prepares everyday for success.
"The Wink & The Pucker "by Ami Puri
Synopsis: A bike kid wakes from surreal dreams of body modification.
Bio: Dreams of global cultural change that recenters the values of playful, just, and creative sharing of resources.
"Azúcar" by Luna Merbruja
Synopsis: Queer and trans people of color transmute intimacy into Azúcar.
Bio: A shape shifting artist, author, and horror film enthusiast.
"Food with Friends" by Fiza Jihan & Mina Halim
Synopsis: A nonbinary Coptic Egyptian and a Muslim Pakistani queer friends dive into community, queerness, and diaspora with food.
Fiza's bio: A queer Pakistani-American filmmaker seeking to capture loving and living in diaspora.
Mina's bio: A queer Coptic Egyptian artist with work focused on queerness and Coptic diaspora.
"Femme Queen Chronicles" by Ahya Simone
Synopsis: Four Black trans women strut through love, trade, and shade without getting clocked or clocking anyone.
Bio: A Detroit-based harpist, singer, artist, filmmaker, and organizer who has performed internationally.
