No one has ever lost by taking profits. In a bull market, it's important to realize your gains if you are in good profits. It is NEVER a mistake to sell at a 100% gain, especially on a box like fusion strike that will get less and less liquid as the price starts to eclipse the $400-$500-$600+ price points. When we're working with cases and cases of the product, the liquidity of these boxes will start to become less and less, as the buyer pool of people who are willing to drop $500-$600+ on a single box diminishes. So realizing the gains and moving the money into the upcoming set pre-orders seems to me to be the best play at the moment, rather than holding these for years before realizing the gains. To each their own, but I don't think that it's a mistake to sell "early", as there's always new opportunities arising.
you you you and I and everyone else are all not the same. even if he did sell some evolving skies I can guarantee you didn't lose his position while also holding long term. everyone's plan is different and neither are bad choices. do what you wallet allows.
There should also be a discussion about selling your gains in Pokémon as well. It’s all well and good if booster boxes get to 1000,2000 + dollars but sometimes it’s going to take a long long time to sell them. Gotta remember folks, you only profit when you get the cash in hand.
I called $500 Lost Origin boxes by the end of 2025 and people were telling me I was crazy after the reprint. When you've been in the hobby long enough like Alex you can see the trends. And the trend right now is up up up
The way you explained investing vs flipping/owning a business blew my mind! I have a job, make side money from content and now I want to invest because I enjoy Pokémon. You have been very helpful. I’m slowly getting more confident about this. Made my first few small investments recently
Folks! When your investment doubles, sell half and ride the rest for free! That means buying a box at $100 and selling it on ebay for about $240 to get $100 in profit
Thanks for your vids Alex, always informative, realistic and logical! Too many channels having agendas behind them for views, but thanks for being real. Definitely my favourite youtuber!
Bought a case at 600 in winter 2022 when no one cared for FS. Went off my gut that I personally (as a lifelong Pokémon fan who was 9 when base set came out) enjoyed chasing the gengar/espion/celebii more than any set other than evo skies. No the rule for us who are on a budget and isn't running a business , is u buy 3 etbs for example and when it triples u sell one, can open one and one for the long term .....and then reinvest what u sell to continue the cycle .
Merry Christmas everyone! Alex the audio sounds nice and crispy! Love the background! Thanks for all your work this year! I watch every video of yours even if I don’t comment on every one of them. I personally would be interested in a video of what you do with your bulk though because that is an interesting topic 😂
Well said Alex. You hit the nail on my head on why I haven’t sold/open a single pack of my entire holdings since Chilling Reign. There is no reason for me to do so. My master plan is to let all of the sealed products appreciate to a level when I can sell off 1% to 2% to rollover to newer releases while keeping 98% of holdings for retirement and/or generational wealth. I believe this is how CTR amassed his sealed holdings. Now he is just doing livestreams to rips N ships for additional side cash.
Personally, I have a set amount I sell for a good profit to reinvest into larger amounts of newer more affordable product while maintaining some of the previous position set i bought in too. I am not a huge investor in pokemon, but I sold like 10 boxes of evolving for about 800 USD each and literally just bought a bunch of different SV booster cases from that selling of ten boxes while i have a couple cases in "Reserve" of evolving for long term growth. Essentially, my pokemon money pays for pokemon things now.
Solid video and an important one. Especially with all of these boxes going on runs. As always, sell some/keep some if you need capital for reinvesting.
Great video Alex like you always say every person situation is different and if you need the money to buy a new release, etc. I think it’s a smart idea to sell up 100% a.k.a. surging Sparks but if you don’t need the money, there’s no reason to sell most times in Pokémon within the first three years. Currently holding 30 evolving skies booster boxes. plan is not moving them until they hit 2K-3K
Treat this like the SPY 500. You can try and time it to chase gains. But if you just hold good products the gains will just keep growing year over year
What’s your take on trading things like ETB‘s and collection boxes for booster boxes? I’m trying to consolidate some things and I am looking into trading some of my stuff into booster boxes because it seems there is more growth but just wanted your opinion. Thank you! New to your channel but loving the videos.
In 25 years sealed has never gone down, except when a big reprint occured. A good set like Fusion Strike would suddenly stop going up? It can, but probably not.
You know what supply is also running low. Vintage Japan or english, people are giving it away to buy the new stuff. I'm from eu so the supply is probably different but i would look into it, price jumps are quite big. Conventions the same, people trading in their vintage for the new stuff, i believe this is a mistake. For example a aquapolis psyduck you could buy for less then 10, selling over 30. I believe alot will follow this trend. I'm buying as we speak to hold for several years, don't see those crashing tbh.
I got into pokemon after shining fates. At the time, the popular opinion seemed to be that ETBs outpreform. So i ended up buying a bunch of evolving skies etbs, umbreon 3 packs, ect. I didnt come around to booster boxes untill fusion and chilling did their turn around. Wish i had been on board sooner. I still did well with the product I bought, and held it strong the entire time though. Just have to adapt and change moving forward.
I got into investing with little capital about 1.5yr ago. I was able to get 4x boxes of Fusion Strike for $140/e and I if it hits $500 rapidly I will sell 1 box to bring my cost average for the other 3 down and hold those long term. Haven’t sold any SWSH yet, just bought some more astral, silver tempest and brilliant stars last week.
My credit card never goes through. The all mighty support at the pokemon center can't help and have no idea what's going on. I thought about using friends or family. I do well enough with what I got, so I will miss out on some things.
I bought a case about a year ago. I’ll sell and buy three cases of modern sets for that. TWM, SSP, PAF, 151 will sell like hot cakes in a year and half. Lost origin is another great buy now.
Hey man, I have a question I'd love to know what you would do. I have the oportunity to buy a Prismatic Evolutions ETB for 73€ in release date in my local store. Should I do it? Good investment or not? I think ETBs will multiply 100-150% in this set, but I don't know how much to invest. Thanks and love the videos!
Good man. You have lots of opportunities to make money along the way, you won't need these low end gains, when you sell, you sell your long term gains. It's for some people, ain't for me.
Dude that real estate house thing is so real just kills me…prime example of the Timmy mindset…and when they finally pull the trigger to buy back in the market has kept moving without them in it and they get less than they had before
Started collecting pokemon cards in august after discovering that a Japanese Pikachu i received from the Tokyo pokemon centre back in 2024 was worth something 😂 Fast forward to december, i'm a little Lost and in between opening packs, collecting Singles, sealed products, slabs.. Glad to have found your channel to go thru this journey together 👍👍

Buy at MSRP, stick in the closet and forget about it. Don't worry about market value, just forget it abut it. 5 - 10 years later open that closet and see what you have and check the market. There is a ton of singles and sealed that I have bought and forgotten about and couple years later look at the price and see that it has shot up. Certainly a nice surprise!
Hey man, love the content. I'm starting my collection and have som Surging Sparks PC ETBs and some Stellar Crown PC ETBs. At the moment i cant afford the 36 booster boxes so am wondering if the 6 pack booster bundles are worth buying?
8:10 bro this was hilarious, it reminds me of that guy on Instagram that memes on the investing influencers. Why dont you just 10x that? Manipulate time and 100x that shieeet 🤣
Ebay seller fees are crippling it hurts gains so much but the audience reach is unmatched. Really stuck between a rock and a hard place when it comes to selling.
I'm a little confused by the analogy at the end, that the flipper has all this work and the investors product is compounding, how are physical objects compounding without you buying more, rising in value sure, but the same number of boxes are not earning more just because of the earnings they had the previous year? And also, doesn't the investor have to incur all of the same workload and costs when they eventually go to sell their investments? Not arguing btw, love the videos, just a little confused at what I'm missing here
Sure you have to buy once and sell once but this is a far cry from the constant buying and selling day in and day out that you have to everyday running a business or flipping.
Pretty bummed that I missed out on collecting BBs of lost origin and fusion strike at a reasonable price point. Oh well. Just going to put that money towards other stuff in the Pokémon market.
I prefer Chilling Reign > LO & FS, & I'm a huge Gengar fan. The overall set value exceeds both of those sets as well. It ain't just about LO & FS. You can make other plays within the S&S era.🙂
I thought the pool was small? we have someone interested in buying ES booster boxes at $1000, people just like to talk man everyone different with different money that’s Literally it
Some of the best with the most room for growth would be in my opinion is crown zenith. Silver tempest. Brilliant stars. Evolving skies at 1200$ can. If you can hold long term.
I got my 2 for $30. Never bothered with that cards til last month. Still have them. It won’t stop climbing. PSA 10 for that thing is a unicorn. PC ETBs will keep getting cracked and promos will keep getting unsealed for a chance at that 10. So many options with a product like this, it’s the perfect storm. Can’t lose getting a sealed promo, a sealed PC ETB or a PSA 10 copy.
Thank you for all the content. This Chanel helps me navigate through the market. As a beginner to the investment market, you always give the best advice . Thank you
That moonbreon will carry that evolving skies box to 5k one day😂 honestly wouldn’t be surprised, I just got back into Pokemon collecting since like 2 decades, I wish I had a little sooner
Good vid. But Tbh I feel like this should have been posed as a “profits reinvested vs profits spent” video as opposed to a “flip vs buy and hold” video. Sure you can say the flipper tripling up is ass compared to buying and holding 10k every year, but you’re not really taking into account the future for the flipper. What if the flipper puts 1/3 of his profits each year into product to hold, while also reinvesting and doubling his flipping income so that he doubles his cash on cash income each year? Then the buy and hold strategy looks comparably worse. It’s really about what you do with the resources you have. Are they flowing towards your net worth, or are you blowing it and watching it go towards someone else’s? I think that might be a better way to frame it.
The issue still is you are not valuing your time. Thats the biggest problem in this hobby is no one puts any value on their time. When you factor that into all of the sourcing listing packing shipping etc it changes the equation quite a bit just putting any value on your time at all.
flippers make money in bear markets while investors dont. And flippers turn over their inventory way faster. People buying today to sell tomorrow. So if u only turnover your $10k 4 times a year then you are not a hardcore flipper.
I have disposable monies for “higher” risk investing and I’m lazy so I’ll just stack and chill. I’m treating like an alt 401k. Maybe if I feel naughty I may sell an item here and there. I’ll be curious what happens in 5+ years.
btw I am still investing into evolving skies. Barely opening any loose packs I can find, buying sleeved packs when I can find them under market price and am debating on putting money towards a psa 10 moonbreon or evolving skies booster box. I have 1 box, I think that's the safer play, but moonbreon is doing stupid things right now
The only thing worse than selling too early is round tripping the bull market back to 0 or into the negative. Sell when the market is liquid, not when everyone is scrambling to sell their bags.
lol if you think ES is going back to 400 or FS is going back to 200 you may just need a new hobby or market to invest in. Thats all I have to say about the "round trip" comment.
@@NostalgiaNomics ES most likely won't see 400 again, but 700-800 is not out of the question. FS/CR/LO can see 200 again. SWSH era is a bit old now so its not as risky, but all the S&V era stuff will most likely come back down. Depends on your point of entry and how long you can keep holding it. Everyone is in a euphoria and up only phase, and if you've been in these markets long enough, you know what happens after that. 🤷
Alex it must be frustrating to read comments proving exactly the point you are trying to make go over their heads. Just know must of us do get your points and can see the bigger picture. Timmies will either learn or leave.
I was gunna sell My surging sparks originally but I have decided to hold till January and decided then but I think ima just put it away for a few years
@@pizzasteve2003buy 2. 1 long term, 1 short term sell. Although I would keep both longer term. If you have lots of money, lots! I would do a case at the right price. Just me.
I got married this year and sold my bitcoin at 70k. Now it's at 100k, I honestly don't care, I needed money and I was up 100%. Life determines whether or not you hold or sell
Friendly advice: I’d stop with the “folks, welcome back” because you just sound like a copycat when you have your own voice and subject matter you talk about.
Did you just say you can't have a strict method of investing? What?!?!?! Hope you said this is not financial advise...Any time you buy something you need to have a gameplan... if you're up money then take profits. No matter what market..
Yes I did. If you have strict buy or sell %'s or total $ gains or even certain timelines it limits you from taking into account too many other variables in this market like supply, reprints, strength of sets, bull/bear markets, etc. I stand by what I said and of course none of this is financial advice. It's a children's trading card game after all 😁

PC ETBs will keep getting cracked and promos will keep getting unsealed for a chance at that 10. So many options with a product like this, it’s the perfect storm. Can’t lose getting a sealed promo, a sealed PC ETB or a PSA 10 copy.
8:29 Exactly! They always come after new people like me!
At the end of the day kids are ripping the past year heavy…. Just hold easy
GREAT INSIGHTS 💯💯
Appreciate it Brian!
You have great point of view on investing.
Scarlet violet base bb are still cheap. Base sets tend to do well long term even if the cards aren't that strong. Swsh base
Bb is 300+
U don’t make market watches anymore man sad😢
But Alex, what about the opportunity cost? I can sell my ES Booster Box for two cases of Temporal.
Why does Opossum hate ya so much Alex 😂
What happened now lol?
@@NostalgiaNomicshis latest video used your thumbnail to make fun of investor bros😂
@@hendo101 haters gonna hate
New collector but ive been buying all the Evolving Skies and Fusion Strike i can in the last month
Good man. You got lots of cash?
@@jasone42683i had about 20k for investing gotta slow down now 😅
In a bull market, sell some keep some. You can make some quick gains but are also prepared on the long term.
One confirmed sale on lost origin @ $300 today, 12/26!
flippers make money in bear markets while investors dont. And flippers turn over their inventory way faster. People buying today to sell tomorrow. So if u only turnover your $10k 4 times a year then you are not a hardcore flipper.
Great video!
Does this apply to singles?
I flipped my whole evolving skies position once it hit 5x what I paid, and it’s doubled since then. 😣
I have disposable monies for “higher” risk investing and I’m lazy so I’ll just stack and chill. I’m treating like an alt 401k. Maybe if I feel naughty I may sell an item here and there. I’ll be curious what happens in 5+ years.
I loaded up on fusion strike and lost origin about a month ago. Bout 5 of each at $200 each.
btw I am still investing into evolving skies. Barely opening any loose packs I can find, buying sleeved packs when I can find them under market price and am debating on putting money towards a psa 10 moonbreon or evolving skies booster box. I have 1 box, I think that's the safer play, but moonbreon is doing stupid things right now
Well said Alex!
U still cooking up a video on the ins and outs of a resellers permit nostalgic?
People are missing the boat on Brilliant Stars and Silver Tempest.
Let me guess you’re heavily invested in both sets 🤣
@MKultraInstinct I'm heavily invested in everything.
Thanks for the info 🥃
Love the shirt!
I was gunna sell
My surging sparks originally but I have decided to hold till January and decided then but I think ima just put it away for a few years
Holy shit thats insane 😳 holding these bad boys since I only have 1 of each 😅😅
I’m about to buy a evolving skies box for $1000 is it still a buy?
Do i think it could be higher in the future? Sure I do. Could there be better plays out there? Sure. Hope that helps!
@ I’ll only buy one then, thank you
@@pizzasteve2003buy 2. 1 long term, 1 short term sell. Although I would keep both longer term. If you have lots of money, lots! I would do a case at the right price. Just me.
One sure thing : it will not decrease, so if you have to sell it for any reason soon, you’ll not loose money !
I wonder how high Silver T will go
I like quick flipping and taking a -15% loss after fees, shipping, IRS taxes
I got married this year and sold my bitcoin at 70k. Now it's at 100k, I honestly don't care, I needed money and I was up 100%. Life determines whether or not you hold or sell
For sure. Like I said if you have a good reason it makes sense. That makes sense to me. Congrats!!
@@NostalgiaNomics appreciate it brotha
Let your winners win. 🥇
It's a children's trading card game after all 😁
Brillisnt stars is next, snap buy y’all
You are correct
Well see if buying more pays off
Also I hope everyone continues to sell at 2x so those (us) who hold longer reap more rewards lol
I hope they all sell. I’ll buy and put it up then sell 10-15 years later
Telling pple to hodl so he can dump 😄
Been hearing that for years and still have my boxes 😂
Over time they all go over 1000
