"Woke" can be a positive and negative thing. If you change, for the better, then it's great but if you put people down, for not being as "woke" as you, then it's bad.
I’m 47, female, married with 3 kids, and I invest more time in myself now than I ever have in terms of health and aesthetics. When I was younger I took my looks for granted and spent less time working on fitness and health, probably due to the fact that my kids were my main priority. Now that my children are older I have time and money available to put into myself and care very much about body aesthetics. I feel like I’m the priority now and channel that focus into improving myself in many ways.
As a 24 year old, I can totally get where you're coming from about the looks. I'm still a student, and I do care about my looks still, but I finally came to realise last year that this is one of the things that define me, not the only thing that defines me. In our teens, we believe that our body is the sole component of our worth. As we grow up, we tend to consolidate our identities a lot better with our studies, our jobs, our interests, our sense of humour, so on and so forth. Big life events, like having a spouse or a child, I think, furthur extands our view of ourselves and the many roles we play in this world. That is why, I think, some care less about looks as they age. Appearance is still one of our attributes, but so many are added as life goes on that our happiness does not solely depends on it.
Happily married for 6 years, mom of 4, full time nurse, and foster parent. Started Keto 1 month ago, and I’m down 17 pounds. Your videos have helped me so much!
I stop caring about aesthetics around year 2 of my marriage (31y/o) During a visit to my doctor he asked if I was aware of the weight I gained since my last visit. I realized I’d better start caring more.
We went to Italy this fall and you bet I didn't do strict keto. But to get back on it once home I did what you said. I just went back to normal keto food but with no worries about how much I might be eating for the first few days till my appetite (sugar levels) calmed down. Worked like a charm.
I'm 34 and I'm just now working on my relationship with food and how I see my body. I'm married and have no kids (we currently don't plan to). In the past I'd get more down with my weight because I didn't have the kids reason for my weight. I'm at a healthy weight and I know that I'm healthy, yet it's a daily battle (some days are better than others) to be happy in my own skin. One thing that has been great through my whole journey of weight gain, weight loss, and some weight gain has been my husband. He loves me regardless. He actually loves me at the size I am now than at my lowest. He just wants a happy and healthy wife.
I'm 40 and I care about aesthetics (health first, aesthetics second). The difference between being 23 and 40 for me is that at 23 it was "easier" for me to "look better". But yeah, I still care about aesthetics; it's still important to me.
Same. Also, because I was naturally thin at 23, my attention to aesthetics focused on style moreso (hairdo and clothes) vs. in my 40s where 80% of my attention is on weight and fitness because it’s fricking hard to find and continually tweak a regimen I’ll stick to that works.
@@deidrap1 What's funny is that now that I've lost weight through the keto diet, I've become MORE AESTHETICALLY INCLINED than before. I'm buying fashionable clothing now, styling my hair, grooming myself more, etc. I think caring about looks is on an individual basis, not age.
Bless your heart.... hopefully taking care of oneself is about healthy living, being the best you can be for yourself and your family,, maintenance of physical, mental, spiritual health. As you and your children grow and mature-priorities do and should shift but your health and how you present yourself to the world should always matter. As a 49 year old woman it’s not about superficialities...
Gotta stay in shape now for your kids and to keep your mate attracted to you. Don't get complacent EVER....... The gym is not the priority... 80-85% is diet and 15-20 activity and exercise... You know this.... WOKE to me means AWARE and is positive.
At 60, I do care how I look, and I feel more comfortable and attractive at a lower weight. I think that it's more that I don't really care what others think about my looks or what I'm wearing (especially since I'm at that "invisible" stage of life). My "acceptable" weight now is higher than it was in my 20's and 30's. I'm 5'8" and hover around 150, size 12. I also have MS, and working out isn't happening as I need a walker at work and in public. I'm not a Keto fanatic, but I do enjoy your recipes and posts. I've lost about 30 pounds this year, thanks to low carb.
I'm 44, married over 21 years, I care more now of what I look like & my overall health. When I was younger, I really did not care or have the knowledge of health and nutrition as I do now...🤷♀️
Women tend to look in the mirror and say My (fill in the blank) looks bad/doesn't fit etc. Men tend to look in the mirror and think I'm good and then leave. Men tend to think they look better then they do and women think they look worse.
Interesting topic for discussion. I'm 45 and have not cared much for aesthetics. My daughter is 16 now and after a long time, I've taken some time off from work. I've always been over weight and though I wanted to lose weight, I've never worked on it till now. I'm utilizing this time to get back in shape - healthwise. Looking good is going to be a side benefit - but main focus is not to fall prey with the typical diseases which strike in this age. So far, have lost close to 20 pounds, have 10 more to go to reach my weight from 23 years ago when I got married :)! I recently started watching this channel and really loving it - Matt and Megha - great going! Keep it up! You guys are inspiring. Love the way how easily you manage everything with a new born baby and still keep up the fun and laughter!
As a 58 yr old woman I still care about how I look. My husband is 9 yrs older than I am he looks hot and we have been married for 20 yrs. woke is a good thing
Been keto over a year. Have 3 kids in their 20's. You guys are young and ever-changing thoughts and priorities get used to it for the rest of your life. Feel differently today than when in school ,than after kids, than after every major life step. It's all unique and judged or not by social awareness and personal lifestyle. Good for you when you are young enough to decide to DO YOU :) I care now as much as ever at almost 56 , size 2 and loving life and keto (with no more migraines!)
I think mega is totally right about caring about aesthetics being priority/life scenario based rather than age like matt says - e.g. when your chronically ill or living in a war zone, you're not going as much about how you look! The more secure/simple your life is and the fewer problems you have, the fewer things are going to be a higher priority for you and you have more time/mental capacity to prioritise looks. ps. happy birthday matt!
First, congrats to you two. Second, as the father of two boys (4 & 3), I'm going to assert that you can't just "choose" a nickname for Theo. You'll start with something and it will morph into different things over time until something sticks. You'll go from Theo, to Theoreno, to Reno and then eventually land on something like "Theo the Mountain Man the Buttermilk Biscuit Killa." Trust me.
40 year old mother of 5 here- when they were babies and toddlers I didn’t have time to care about aesthetics as much. Now my husband and I love working out together 5x per week...for health, for aesthetics, for strength. It’s a much bigger priority now than it was when I was a young mom.
At 66 it's more about health and being able to keep up with my 3, 8 and 10 year old grandkids then looks. Theo was really happy and wiggling around - so cute!
I think in my twenties I didn’t think I would care as much about how I look but now, 3 kids later and pushing 40 you do care about how you look. And I’m not on social media other than TH-cam so it’s not societal pressures it just the realization that I will NEVER look the way I did. My body is not ever going to be the same and with age comes age pains and issues. I think with time perspectives change. When you’re young you want to look good to find someone and when you get older you want to look good to keep the person you found.
19 weeks and zero cheat days/meals. *HOWEVER* Thanksgiving is coming up and I will be eating somewhat 'normally' that day. Not gonna trip because I'm super focused on my goal. 25 lbs to go then maintain. ✌️ 🐯
I do actually think it's healthy to prioritise how you look for your partner, whether you've been together for 2 years or 20 years. And for your own sense of self, although I like to prioritise strength, health, flexibility, being injury free...and smoking hot!
Happy Birthday Matt! Enjoy your 30's because they go by faster then the 20's did. I just turned 40 on11/5. I can't believe it. I feel better than I've felt in a long time though. I have to get the credit to the ketogenic diet. Thanks to you and Megha for all the helpful and entertaining videos. Sorry if I spelled your name wrong Megha.
maybe coming from a guy but never in a MILLION years would I ask a woman if she was back to her pre pregnancy weight... unless I just wanted my life ended.
woke to me is a term people use kind of making fun of someone being aware of our true reality, or someone saying "you're so woke" but eitherway it sounds super cheesey to me. I'd never use the term outside of a joke.
Happily married and still find myself working on aesthetics for my husband. He married me for more than just my personality. Too many get comfortable and let themselves go. Idk. He loves me no matter what but let's be real, keep up with why you fell in love
I agree about looks with both of you. Family and children first. Feeling good along with being healthy is what’s important secondly. Your both are right on.👍
My rule is if I cheat, the next day is a fast day, no eating. Quick and easy way to get back in line. That said I've had all of two cheat days in the last year, and they weren't so much cheat 'days' as they were cheat 'meals'.
What's really hard is when you go an visit family. Unless you pack your food for the visit you end up cheating. Especially if your in a family that revolves around the kitchen. If you bring your own food to a family dinner it could be considered rude.
Really? Bringing your food could be considered rude? That’s a new I didn’t think with. I thought it be seen as a generous gesture and interesting for the receiver but ok I’ll watch this better.
@@heleneserv1278 nah, say you're staying at your moms or auntie's , she makes homemade gnocchi and everyone but you is eating it. Sure you can bring a plate of keto friendly foods to a party. but as someones house guest it's a little rude. Idk maybe it's a cultural thing.
u guys r da truf! i tell my keto curious newbies to follow you guys since you are living your best lives and not acting like fake keto cult robots. congrats and thanks.
You’ve got this! Take an hour and cook up a few keto desserts if you can. I make a batch of banana muffins, cinnamon rolls, etc. every week. It’s the main reason I’ve stayed the course. Good luck!
Thanks for sharing! I haven’t watch you guys in awhile. I test my ketones for the past 2 months. It is motivating for me too. I’m also breastfeeding, not tracking carbs or calories. I just eat intuitively and make sure my baby is fed 😀.
As I recall you got ahold of Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions cookbook a while back. If you're going to consume grains of any kind, you should look into how to properly prepare them to unlock the nutrients bound up by the phytic acid. The oats need to be soaked in an acid medium overnight or up to 24 hours, or else the phytic acid will end up chelating from of your body the very minerals that they contain. By soaking them in this manner, you'll also feel fuller longer.
I’m 45 and married for 25 years! I have six kids from 10 all the way to 24 yr old. I definitely worry about how I look everyday not only for myself, but I also want to look great for my husband and kids! 40’s in not old and as I continue to age I will continue to care about how I look! Plus my kids will mimic how they see me and I definitely want for them to take care of their health and the way they look regardless of their age!
I'm almost 45 and I care a great deal about my physical appearance as well as my health. I was out of shape and overweight throughout my 20's from having our children. I have 4 kids. That being said I also never wanted my kids to be embarrassed of me because their mom was obese. I believe in doing the best with what you have to work with. Letting yourself go leads to not being happy with one's self. Grant you when you have a infants and toddlers you put yourself of the back burner. That is normal but you should never stop caring.
My 9-yr-old niece made cupcakes for a family event. I was gonna skip it but she was excited and put one on a plate for me. I enjoyed eating it and she was happy. Before I might have said oh well I’ll start my diet tomorrow (and proceeded to eat lots more). But I was content and kept it keto. No recovery day needed.
Such a great video! The whole cheating then extreme fasting cycle had me feeling like I was falling back into a type of eating disorder. If I’m honest I feel like it’s the keto version of binging and purging. Just go back to eating good foods!
Belated Happy Birthday! nickname suggestion: Favorite Eldest Son ...I stopped caring about aesthetics when life got really hard and money way too tight...when my weight got really over the top I was thrilled to find Keto and it's improved my health which is waaaaay more important to me than looks. ... I have no idea what that word means.
Totally agree about not restricting to recover. If anything, I increase my fat so I feel indulged by my keto lifestyle instead of resentful which will lead to bingeing.
In answer to your question! Woke up, fell out of bed Dragged a comb across my head Found my way downstairs and drank a cup And looking up I noticed I was late Found my coat and grabbed my hat Made the bus in seconds flat.
For my 60th I had a roll with my primerib and about 1/4 cup of the birthday Sunday served by the waitress who was very sweet and wanted me to celebrate. I fasted after dinner until the next day at 1pm. Small birthday cheat then right back on track.
I’m doing keto for the longevity and for the mental protective benefit. I’ve got a 1 yo and a 2 yo and am 42 years old. I gotta stay sharp for at least another 30 years.
My grandma, in prep for her 70-year high school reunion was on a weight loss diet, and her sister dyed her hair a shade of red it NEVER could have naturally been at any age. Point is, we care about how we look/asthetices our WHOLE lives. But hopefully, at some point in adulthood, it's no longer our sole focus/priority.
I can remember when I could eat a whole pizza - drink 5 beers and still be skinny - that boat sailed along time ago. When your young, 1 night of partying will not be that much of a deal.
Thanks for this video , my birthday was on Sunday and I'm out of ketosis after 4 tortillas and 2 slices of flan on sunday and also 2 slices of pecan pie on monday, thank you again guys
I quit worrying so much about my looks after I got married and then even more after I started working from home and then even more after two kids. Then I woke up one day and said what the f’ing hell??? Hence I am now on keto and doing my hair and makeup everyday because it makes me feel good.
Becoming a mother is life changing. Menopause isn’t called the change for no reason. At 55, I still care about looking and feeling well. Never been a beauty, I think getting older must be harder if you are very attractive.
Maybe I'm not ketoing for the normal reasons, but my policy is 'keto hard, cheat hard' - I work-out hard (resistance) every day, fast for 20+ hours/OMAD, but every two weeks I'll have two days when I go completely off the rails with carbs (admittedly I am a food-snob and from the UK, so I still avoid HFCS, MD and all the processed junk). I have never had a problem with this. Just had two days off now indulging with my girlfriend (deffo not keto) and today a big work-out, then bpc, organic bacon, local cheese, olives and avo at 5pm - seems to work for me!
I've had to cut out dairy as well for my 2 month old little nursling. I'm struggling. Most of my easy quick go-tos have dairy. I would love to see some more DOE videos for what you are eating Megha.
Totally over checking my keytone blood level. I have a Keto Mojo and I can eat like 300g of carbs then check my keytones later that day and be at like .9 mmol/L
When my mom died of early onset dementia a few years ago. Made me shift focus to my health, instead of just wanting to be thin... And unlike vanity as the motivator--wanting to be health is coming from a deeper place--maybe why I've been successful with Keto..
Interestingly I have this "caring about aesthetics" thing all backwards. Never cared about it, there've always been more important things to take care of. But then I decided to do something for myself, went on Keto for health originally and now aesthetics are somewhat important, as I find myself invested in my looks beyond the "that's passable to go outside".
I always thought ‘woke’ was a good thing; that you’re with it, self-aware. (But I’m 60, so I may have it all wrong.) Aesthetics: I completely agree with the levels you describe based on life events and how the importance drops. You’re right, the observation you made about male vs. female concern with aesthetics is sexist, but I agree with you that it is 100% true. Also, if one is old and accepts the fact one will be alone for the rest of one’s life, that’s when one starts not caring at all and ends up going through the aisles of Walmart driving an “I’m too fat to walk” grocery cart.
Eggplant baked in chicken broth salt, onion powder, and a teeny bit of soy sauce, real good. Cast Iron pan suggested 😊 What was it Matt was trying to finish off from the fridge?? I didn't understand what it was. (Scorpio are blunt how they speak and present their ideas😊 That's ok Matt. ) I think I stopped caring once I had my first kid, plus I never cared to what others thought of me and I paced myself and still do. If I don't I fall off the wagon and dissapoint myself. I learned it is how I feel I want to do things ,listening to myself helps me remain constant. This was a very helpful video guys, thankyou! Much love to you both and your lil one and pet babies! -Fiona
I'm 3 years on keto. I have to say, if i cheat I a also am back in ketosis by the next day. I go about my day as any other day. No crazy fasting or anything. When your fat adapted its definitely easier. Your body works through the glucose quickly.

Every time I see ya'lls cast iron pan my heart sings. Nothing better for your health when it comes to cookware!
As a 58 yr old woman I still care about how I look. My husband is 9 yrs older than I am he looks hot and we have been married for 20 yrs. woke is a good thing
For me, my mid 30s was the point that I stopped caring about how I look. My focus shifted towards health instead.
keto cheat day=BEER
After a cheat day I always do at least a 16 hour fast.
I did the 24 hour fast after I cheat. I feel like that works best because I already do the 16/8 thing.
How has that fast helped after??
Matthew Knoblich no idea
Wishing a belated 🎉 Happy Birthday Matt.🎉 Take care all. ❤🙂🐶
Good for you when you are young enough to decide to DO YOU :)
I care now as much as ever at almost 56 , size 2 and loving life and keto (with no more migraines!)
When I have enough nutrients in my day/week I never feel I need to “cheat”. For my birthday I’d like to try different types of meat and fish...
Miley is like "what is this sorcery?".
I'm still vain at 50.
Dogfish Head Slightly Mighty lo-cal IPA. 95 calories 3.6 carbs. Delicious!
I always gives me anxiety how Matt holds theo
I love you guys cans still have cocktails- have fun then go straight to recovery like it ain’t no thing.
maybe coming from a guy but never in a MILLION years would I ask a woman if she was back to her pre pregnancy weight... unless I just wanted my life ended.
woke to me is a term people use kind of making fun of someone being aware of our true reality, or someone saying "you're so woke" but eitherway it sounds super cheesey to me.
Your both are right on.👍
I am 66 and I still care. Married 45 years, 3 adult children, 8 grandkids. Keto has improved my health and I feel that I look healthier.
Happy Birthday! Thanks for the ketone meter update, good info to be mindful of.
I started keto to feel better & so far it is working & that is what keeps me motivated 💖
Took me 30 yrs to get back to pre-pregnancy weight , lost 70 lbs in 1 yr, I like how I feel, rather than how I look.
My cheat day quickly became a cheat week. Now I'm preparing for the battle of preventing a cheat month
Thank You so much for this video, I never knew what to make of my ketone test readings.
His name shall be “Theo aka Tbone tha mountain man killa”
Buttermilk biscuit 😂❤️😭 that’s so cute
33 here and not yet with a 14 year old daughter, married. I'm prepping for my first bodybuilding show in April, Keto all the way!
Halloween candy was cheat day and made me feel gross. I think I’m still getting over that nastiness
seoreh I had the same experience with Halloween candy. It took me 4 days to lose the weight I gained.
It's like a really bad hangover. Not worth it to me to cheat.
Definitely a hangover. It takes me 10 days. That's why I don't cheat anymore.
I like the numbers too as guideline, totally just start back to the usual when I have a splurge the day before. Makes it easy to just get back to it 👍
In answer to your question!
Woke up, fell out of bed
Dragged a comb across my head
Found my way downstairs and drank a cup
And looking up I noticed I was late
Found my coat and grabbed my hat
Made the bus in seconds flat.
Sean Butler my favorite song!
For my 60th I had a roll with my primerib and about 1/4 cup of the birthday Sunday served by the waitress who was very sweet and wanted me to celebrate. I fasted after dinner until the next day at 1pm. Small birthday cheat then right back on track.
OMG that little baby, SQUEEEEEEEEEE! Much love to you all from New Mexico USA!
Matt, big craft beer fan and former home brewer. That's the only thing I regret on keto. The beer. But the trade off is well worth it.
Im 74 been on keto for 6 months zI feel like a new petson....have emergy ...feel tefreshed every mornimg...Im very happy with the results
I have been watching you guys from the very beginning and I’m happy for how much you guys have grown
Cast Iron pan suggested 😊
What was it Matt was trying to finish off from the fridge?? I didn't understand what it was.
(Scorpio are blunt how they speak and present their ideas😊 That's ok Matt. )
I think I stopped caring once I had my first kid, plus I never cared to what others thought of me and I paced myself and still do. If I don't I fall off the wagon and dissapoint myself.
I learned it is how I feel I want to do things ,listening to myself helps me remain constant.
This was a very helpful video guys, thankyou! Much love to you both and your lil one and pet babies!

I'm 3 years on keto. I have to say, if i cheat I a also am back in ketosis by the next day. I go about my day as any other day. No crazy fasting or anything. When your fat adapted its definitely easier. Your body works through the glucose quickly.
