Looking forward to catching up with your progress. I had a wonderful time cold water swimming here in Wales. Mostly in a sea dock, as no tides to consider snd safer. I had lessons to master front crawl. I got down to 4° water temp. I don't own a car now, so the rewarm is no longer something I can safely do. So pool swimming is my limitation now. Well done facing swim fears.
Jeez - yep - that’s cold! 🥶 this is still something t that’s in the planning stage for me - watch this space! Good work - Wales is the holy grail for cold water swimming, all those places on the Beacons and Cambrian Mountains!
@1stElement I haven't travelled with swimming i must admit. I don't know if you've heard of Cath pendleton the Merthyr mermaid was a BBC documentary about her. She swam the channel and a mile in the antarctic. It's online and worth a watch. Very inspiring. I met and swam with her, she's lovely. I do miss it.
Love this. Ive recently also felt the need for some adventure challenges that push me out of my comfort zone. Sure you have some bike packing involved, but think some multi day adventures without lifes comforts have to be in there. You know Im always up for cold water swimming so let me know if want a buddy (see you at cromhall on Sunday? 😉)
Totally agree - multi day discomfort is the way forward! And thanks on the cold water front - I’ll need someone to come and film me in the freezing water!!
Love this idea of pushing yourself and having motivation in the form of challenges. I ran my first 5K at weekend (hate running) and the feeling afterwards was, What's next?!?! Good luck, looking forward to following you on the journey and I'll give the limitless series a watch.
Love it buddy exciting stuff. I think my wife is as keen on Mr Hemsworth as Becks is😂. What about the Goggins 4x48 challenge for mortals like us it’s even harder, mortals like you and me. If you take it on I might be able to be persuaded to do it with you. Hell I might even make a TH-cam video about it. ❤.
Thanks mate - I like the idea of the 4x4x48 - tell me though - what are we going to learn that in our 80’s we’ll be grateful for (it’s a genuine question)..!
@@1stElement probably that doing stupid things like the 4x4x48 are bad for our body perhaps even in the long term. I think your right we should listen to people like my grandfather who said if I knew I was going to live this long I would have taken better care of my body when I was young. Here we are and we can only control our actions from today forward. I think what I want to learn from endurance sport, show my kids is that even with moderate ability we can do amazing things if we stick to the process be patient and do things in the right way with the long term goal of being in this game for the rest of our lives. I hope in 30 even if we are on electric assist bikes that we will still be taking these challenges and finding the same enjoyment and love in them and they will give us the same joy. I like what the vegan cyclist says about him taking the joy from his adventures and giving it back to his family. Working dumb AF shift work I need to stay somewhat fit and have the release so I can be the best version of me for my wife and kids. I know you are expecting me to bounce the question back at you.
Like it - I have pencilled in lands end to home via GB Divide route for early next year (in the cold and sleeping rough..!) - the main thing - and the question I’m asking myself with theee challenges is - what can I/we learn from the challenges to take forward into the next 30/40 years of life to make it… well, more..!!
You can join me in my pursuit of a 'human flag' - wanted to learn for about 12 years now but have dedicated next to no time for it, and I'm too heavy right now anyway... might start those first steps again soon
What challenges should I do - but most importantly - how is it going to help us/me as the years progress..?
Good luck!! Look forward to watching progress. 🎉
Thanks David! Hopefully there will be some useful stuff for everyone along the way…!!
I’m looking forward to seeing how this goes. A challenge to consider is a swimrun Otillo event with your wife (when it’s a bit warmer).
Thank you! I am too - Bex isn’t allowed to cold water swim…! It’s a long story - but we will defo take on some adventures together - like life, eh!!
Looking forward to catching up with your progress.

Ah amazing - I’ll check that out - thank you!! Sounds like an amazing experience!

Ah how amazing this that?!? Well done - so then - what IS next..?
@@1stElement I ran 5k in 30m34s. I'd like to get that under 30 mins and then do something more social and frequent like parkrun.

Cold swimming James! If you need a buddy :)
I do and I will Annie - thank you… I so hate the cold!!
Sounds great James! Hopefully see you out there this year :)
You will mate. And by the way - you’ve got this whole coming back thing, you know you have.
Multi day bike packing? Maybe into South Wales. Self supported half ironman with gravel trails and trail runs?

Lush idea. Good luck!
Thanks mate - I should put doing the house up in the list of challenges - then you can be an expert for me..!!
@@1stElement haha. I can probably advise you on the many ways of not doing it. At the very least. 😅
@Gordyhand you sound like a proper expert then..!!
Do you need Netflix or some other subscription to watch it?
It’s on Disney plus mate - I’m sure you can find it ‘elsewhere’…!
What about a pairs event like orienteering?
That’s good shout - I did an ultra as a pair - it was ace having a shared experience like that!
