@@FredPena-rd5cf well for starters, George Lucas (who I remember seeing teary when interviewed about their breakup), Jim Carrey, Gov. Jerry Brown, possibly Mick Jagger, Bill Murray, Steve Martin- pretty amazing list of relationships!
I love Linda Rondstadt. Her voice is still my favorite. Linda is so grounded despite her widespread success. Such a private person- thank you for sharing as I could listen to her speak about herself and her life for days.
So glad you mentioned that song. What a great piece of music. So big and open, you can just get lost in it and let it do the driving, it takes your feelings and channels them.
In 1999, I attended a concert of Linda and Emmylou Harris, and when Linda performed Blue Bayou it got a standing ovation. What a perfect combination of artist and song, and a result that touches the soul.
Best Live pipes on the planet. Clear, unadorned, powerful and tender. A songwriter's champion, a mentor to countless musicians, they swarmed around her and yet she didn't bathe in her own reflection. A very rare songbird - hardcore adorable as well. Sigh...
I've been a fan of hers for a long, long time and I have always viewed her as an introvert, shy, private person. Oh, she could really sing any genre of music.
The greatest voice of that wonderful 70s hybrid of rock-pop-country-folk -- but she sang everything brilliantly. I hope she is well and I'm so sorry she's had such health challenges. Fascinating woman.
I dont think anyone would say no to Dan Rather interview he is well respected and SO good at his job an excellent interviewer and this was no exception. Thank you to Linda and Dan
Linda described her father as shy and quiet and herself as shy but noisy. That clicked with me as I feel the same, especially about crowds. Like Linda, I would prefer being with ten people who have known each other for twenty years. Other comments resonated as well. What a wise and beautiful lady. (I met her once when she didn’t have time for a proper conversation. She told me to come back later. I didn’t and I regret feeling too shy to approach her a second time)
Love her voice (pefect pitch), love her independece, love her fearlessness. Her voice has provided the soundtrack to so many great and heartbreaking moments in my life, since I was 12. Regarding the sometimes hostile behavior? We all have our moments.
Two of the greatest high caliber people in public field. Linda in music and Dan Rather in journalism. Dan, very highly respectable and admired for his great journalism. Linda for her exceptional beautiful voice, charisma, personality. Adored by the world. Dan Rather obviously had great fun and loved interviewing this amazing fenomenal star singer.
She goes from quoting from Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness' to describing the life of a musician with specificity: "deciding what guitar & vocal structures you want at an incredibly fast rate of speed." Meanwhile Dan Rather keeps asking about sex, drugs, and why she didn't get married. She's so far above him, yet gracious.
It's so amazing but so human that a person as talented as Linda could be so shy. But when I watch her performances, her presence doesn't say "Look at me," it says, quite beautifully, "Listen to me."
When I was a kid, a good friend when over to Skip's house. The house cleaner was there cleaning the floor. She said "Hi My name is Linda Ronstadt. Buy my record". Stone Ponies Volume II was the first record I bought.
She had such an impact on me when I was younger. I was taking a Spanish History class & did a review on one of her traditional Spanish concerts. Took a vocal class & sang her classic jazz songs. (I remember when she gotta a lot of flack from fans when she stopped doing rock & roll- she didn’t care what others thought - which ironically is the essence of rock n roll). And like her, I didn’t feel I had to marry & for me personally it was a fine choice. And now in my living room I can see her album cover here where she’s sitting in the pig pen- glad she explained that lol- always thought that must have been hard - because we all know pig you- know-what stinks. What she did for art! Haha.
Lovely conversation. A great talent and seeming plenty of good wisdom and perspective. I'd enjoy hearing her talk more. And that Dan Rather, he should consider making this whole interview thing a full-time gig, he ain't half bad! /s
I'm glad that Linda continues to offer interviews in lieu of performances. She is very well spoken, funny without even trying to be, and always interesting to listen to. I would love her music to make a resurgence so the younger generation can appreciate her extraordinary talent.
I love her. In reality, most of her biggest hits in the 70s were remakes of 50s or 60s songs. Heatwave and You're No Good are good examples. She went over the top with Blue Bayou(another remake) in the late 70s. Basically she was the Taylor Swift of her day. Her downfall was openly dating the governor of California. She tried to countrify punk rock. It just didn't work.
just curious - when was this interview - was it from 60 Minutes - thnx for posting it - praying Linda not in pain and that her body stop betraying her 🇨🇦🙏
He wasted so much time talking about men, sex, drugs, etc. Missed opportunity to talk about working with people like Nelson Riddle and other outstanding men and women in the music business. Why not talk more about her collaboration with Dolly and Emmylou? I don’t get it.
Thanks for mentioning that. I've always loved her voice and her music, and she seemed quite happy when I observed her in concert several times back in the 1970s. But there have been times when I've observed her having a more hostile and bitter side to her, too.
Yes , just wrote a long comment on the good impact she’s had on people like me-but agree there’s always the other side to these things. She says in the interview she didn’t get too wild BUT there is a true story- when she appeared on The Johnny Cash show- the stage was a bit elevated - and ppl reported back to June Carter C that at rehearsals LR in was in a mini skirt wearing not much underneath. 😂. June immediately took care of that- she always made sure Johnny ‘walked the line’. ! Very well documented story. So that’s a rock n roll story right there for ya.
I was her tour manager for years in the seventies. Amazing beautiful kind😊 loving lady. Sending all the love in the world to her❤
So nice to read your comment. To confirm what I, and probably many others, have always thought.
Dude, you rock. I googled you. I see you worked with Jimi Hendrix, Aerosmith, Bowie, and probably others. I am sure you have stories to tell.
Who all did she get with? Cmon, give us the goods!

Linda Ronstadt is one of the best voices ever ~ thank you for this interview
The way Dan looked at her made me think that he loves and adores her just as much as I do.
I was a teen in the 1970s and Linda was my musical idol. I thought her voice was amazing and that she could do no wrong. All the best to her.
Gosh love Linda ronstadt! Hope she is doing well can’t wait to see her biopic🇨🇦👍❤️

IMO, Linda Ronstadt's first hit -- 1967's "Different Drum" as lead singer of the Stone Poneys -- was her best.

Donna Summer said the same thing .Very shy and Donna said she approched as a actor on stage rather than a singer on stage just singing a song ..
