Hey NL! You need to be able to move around “baba is” for boiling river right? But you have more than “baba is” set of texts! Take advantage of that! (If that’s not enough: Solitary island is aaaalll about using “and” creatively)
No offense to the last guide writer, but it was not a very good one at giving hints either. The best hint for the last level was definitely _"See how "BELT IS SHIFT" is not behind solid walls? Now why would that be? Try all the combinations you can do with that and you will get the win."_ In fact, this is true of all levels: every time the developer lets you *partially* interact with rules, it is done on purpose and the solution is likely there. As for your problem with doing 90% of the puzzle and then dropping it, it is because you tunnel-vision a solution that you made up in your head and anything new you do that does not lead to it, you dismiss it as useless. Like on that level with the floating rocks..? You literally said "ROCK IS WIN" at some point and dismissed it as pointless, not thinking it through enough and never actually trying it to see what happens, instead tunnel-visioning building a bridge to the flag on a level called "...bridges?". You had a similar problem on the level with the walls where you dismissed seeing Keke clipping on text as useless because you tried nothing with that new knowledge. Funnily enough, Vinesauce did that one on accident in literal seconds out of curiosity and sheer luck. For real, if you want a useful hint for all levels in the game, it is this: _"The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results."_ You can truly sometimes just throw stuff at the wall, see what sticks and there is your solution found by pure accident, but you HAVE to *actually* do stuff differently for that to happen to begin with, which requires not focusing on one possible solution that may or may not exist. The game forces you to find new mechanics and ways to interact with the world on many levels, so assuming that you have to do something new to solve a puzzle is often useful.
Mr. Lion, big fan here! I have a little hint for you: for me, the game gets a LOT easier and also likely even more entertaining (because we can follow you closing in on the solution gradually) if you try to split every level into three stages: 1. Find what is the problem that stops you from winning (e.g. a skull is preventing me from creating my win condition) 2. think about what needs to happen to solve the problem (e.g. need to destroy a water tile so i can move the cog to the skull) 3. try to figure out how to get to the solution (e.g. push an active rule into the sink tile) Most of the times it's hardest to figure out how to apply the solution or what the solution would look like. Finding the problem, aka what is stopping me from winning, is usually pretty easy. _Only if you identified the problem you can verify if what you are trying is even getting you closer to the solution!_ Verify that what you are doing is bringing you closer to the solution (there is probably a few problems that do not let you apply the solution, solve them one by one in the order of your choice) If you are lost in a seemingly impossible problem, you can use deduction to all combinations of rules you can create to find potential solutions. Then play around to see if the new ruleset brings you closer to your solution (there are usually just a few combinations in total and only a couple will get you closer to solve the problem. I'm sure that if you would articulate clearly what the actual problem is you need to solve, you could figure them out ;) But you don't and get lost in thoughts a lot. tl/dr: You are awesome! Try to approach the levels a little bit more systematically.
Hey NL, you managed to effectively solve the first two puzzles you were stumped on (after the one at the very beginning), yet not actually reproduce the solutions you described in the game. I would very strongly suggest taking a bit more time before moving on or attempting to modify the state of a level. Keep hammering on it. You're more than capable enough to beat this game
NL IS thinking through the puzzles though, and quite well. NL's problem is that he doesn't try ENOUGH things. He thinks out loud, but never does the homework and tries out his ideas, which are often correct.
Tracy H dude the amount of times NL has knowing done something that kills him just to see if it this one time making nothing be you doesn’t end the level is enough to be classified as insanity.
I finally get the conundrum of NLs intellect, he isn't stupid, he is just really dense. Every time he thinks he got a solution, his mind gets stuck in those thoughts no matter if he is told it is wrong, even when it is he telling himself it is wrong, he is so dense that he keeps circle back to it. Smart but also dense, it is quite adorable in a way.
I beg you NL, I know you won't read this, but you've gotta start conceptualizing that besides text, NOTHING can be pushed without a Push rule being applied to it. It's a fairly small complaint in the big scheme of things, but c'mon dood, with how many times it's happened by now...
I found that when I'm stuck the way to see now solutions is working backwards from the endstate. Yes, the trivial flag is win (not always the case) - but what needs to happen before it? The hard part is conceptualizing the steps - then the easier part of taking inventory of the tools and possible moves. And if I'm still stuck, then try stuff out to discover tools or moves I haven't recognized. Good luck, NL!
5:00 for that bonus level, I'd never solved it until watching right now, it's so simple. You take the "and" and put it after baba is melt, you then shove the float out of the way. Shove baba is you down, and now, horizontally, you have baba is melt and you, and you have a baba, an is, and a float that you can move about at will. Shove it across the water while floating, break float, voila.
Man I’ve been stuck on boiling river for a while. NL shows that you can do baba is melt and float. I’m like; ooh you do baba is melt and you, then move baba is float to the otherside of the river. NL still has no clue how to solve it.

SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER Solution 1: Rock is you -> Move words Baba is you Rock is Flag Flag is win 2: Flag is win+Flag is you 3: Rock is flag is you Baba is win
Remember the *other* puzzle with the same layout with the water and the skulls? You won it by making the water float, remember? The underlying idea is that you want Baba to pass through both the water and the skulls, by playing with the Float property; changing Baba's float status doesn't help, because the water and the skulls are different, and there's no room to push the blocks around to make the skulls *not* be Float, so you have to make the water be Float. That's why the hint that you mentioned last time you looked at the puzzle, said that you need to salvage the `is` from the `Baba Is You`. Another hint: The `Baba Is You` is in a specific column for a specific reason.
Second puzzle: Remove float from 'baba is you and float' Push the 'and" left once then down Move 'baba is you' down to create 'baba is melt and you' conjoined with 'baba is you' Move the 'is' and 'float' onto either of the 'water's Water and skulls now float, baba does not.
For that third one, I feel I found at least 2 solutions and all of them were close to what he tried to do, like turning the rocks into flags and then into win or turning the rock into you and win.

Therefore, you want to touch Baba to Flag. Rocks and Text can cross the Water. Baba and Flag evidently cannot. But you want to touch Baba to Flag - since those are the non-floating things. You actually reasoned all of this out, but got stuck on trying to make either Baba or Flag able to cross. No. You just need them on the same side. How else can you do that, if they can't cross?
I have this deep dilemma where I sometimes feel like screaming to the screan "GOD, NL YOU'RE STUPID", but I respect you too much to do so, but frustration keeps growing as I see you not realize stuff... Oof this series is fun but it makes me VERY stressed too :P

I respect his ability to quickly figure out the solution to most puzzles but I respect his ability to not actually solve them even more.
I gotta keep watching just to see when he'll make rock is win
Second puzzle:
Remove float from 'baba is you and float'
Push the 'and" left once then down
Move 'baba is you' down to create 'baba is melt and you' conjoined with 'baba is you'
Move the 'is' and 'float' onto either of the 'water's
Water and skulls now float, baba does not.
He tries Rock Is Win but not Rock Is Flag................. JUST MOVE IT TWO SQUARES UP (4Head)
Ryan had the baby version, I had to do keke is move instead of keke is push
did they change a puzzle?
@@ellefsoneric The Switch version is slightly different
My neighbors probably didn't appreciate me yelling "Pull it out, Dad!"
The rocks can *not* win by touching text for text is (implicitly) push.
Egg is the king of overthinking solutions
This is Baba is you in a nutshell:
NUTS
HELL
HAS
BA
BA IS YOU
ROCK IS YOU
IS
WIN
EGG IS SCRAMBLED
For that third one, I feel I found at least 2 solutions and all of them were close to what he tried to do, like turning the rocks into flags and then into win or turning the rock into you and win.
this particular episode actually had me gripping my monitor
Dude, in all these years of watching NL fumble, I can only think of like 2 other situations when I actually want to drive to his fucking home, and yell the solution from outside. ROCK IS WIN MY DUDE YOU HAVE ALL THE PIECES, PLEASE EGG RELEASE US FROM THIS MORTAL COIL
BABA IS MELT AND YOU, OH MY GOD.
Usually I'm critical of people posting this sort of comment but...
YOU LITERALLY SAID
"WHAT IF I DO ROCK IS YOU AND ROCK IS WIN"
AND THEN YOU DIDN'T DO IT
NL... you had it so many times
this game simultaneously makes me feel like the dumbest idiot and greatest genius of all time.first i'm stuck on a simple puzzle for an hour and then suddenly blast four in a row in 15 minutes.
wow speechless again, didn't think it was possible.
11:40 he finally remembers he has access to another is so now he can make rock you and rock win
*tries to transform rock into something else instead*
Baba is you
Egg is win
Me is happy
>Make Rock is Win
>It doesn't work because Rock Is Float and Baba Is Not Float
>think for a moment, conclude "I think we have to touch the Flag" because of the floating property
>figure out how to bring Win back using the rocks, and use it to swap the roles of Rock and Baba (Baba is Win, Rock is You)
>it doesn't work
>surprised pikachu
Hint: You can't change what floats.
Just do it, he can't hear you.
He can read your comment saying that you think he's stupid, though. So much for respect.
@@wilddogspam What I'm trying to say is that I know for a fact he's a clever guy but sometimes it really doesn't show xDDD
When you stare into the void...
Baba Is You
12:27 hurtfull to see i almost died at this " wrong "
little does NL know it's his wife that is writing these guides to move his series along
NL: "There was nothung I could do dude."
Literally everyone else: "Rock is win?"
