      Good ol' twin peaks, especially during the summer time when the sweet smell of alder bushes bloom. Setnetted in Moser Bay last year, and we anchored by the village of akhiok and woke up to a windy, westerly coming from the bay, so we moved to tie up at the cannery and when we got by twin peaks a strong willo-wa gusted and we were caught in it and we stopped to just let the wind pass by, but boy oh boy that willo-wa was strong enough to make the boat lean to the starboard side a little bit and after that we took off to the cannery.

  • @breikowski
    @breikowski 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    There’s got to be a better way to move ice. Was thinking flood it, then pump out. Depending on current water temp, it may go quick or slow. Current method looks like a shoulder surgeons dream.

    A good partnership working together, could you give a tutorial on your automatic spoller, your line reel moves at the same speed while hauling back, is your spoller timed of your driven winch shaft, and how does it go back and forth without causing a line build-up on the ends. Thank you for sharing your video.

  • @bobbib5779

    im curious do you keep any of those rock fish for eating during breaks assuming of course then you have a portable grill of some sort

  • @popquizzz
    @popquizzz หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The more I see the Team/Family work the fishing with the reel operating in the mid center of the boat and the line coming in on the port side, the more I feel this has inherent dangers that don't seem as prevalent in the Center Line stern operation of the reel and longline fishing. Maybe it is perspective, but you seem to lose a lot of operational free space for fish and traversal of the catch onboard, a large center tank is covered and not as accessible. I also saw the advantage of this operation when the line was stuck in rocks and you were able to steer the boat around the line caught addressing the removal from a different tangent point. So I need to ask for my own inquiry, What determines going to this setup? Is it fishing quota placement 3A vs. 3B or the location like a rocky bottom vs. sandy bottom? Inquiry minds want to know.

    • @EISAlaska
      @EISAlaska  หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Persective has a lot to do with it. It is a lot easier on the back having the line pass through a block up high as opposed to bending down and uncliping the snap when pulling off the stern. Hauling mid-ship you can spin and pivot the vessel on the line, it males hauling much easier under all circumstance, especially when it is windy or rough out. If the line gets snagged you can spin around and work it from the side. Anyway 3A vs #b doesn't matter, just bottom conditions. Hauling from the side lets us fish shallow, rocky areas that were really had to work from the stern.

    Why do you take the bait off, throw it overboard and then bait with a new piece? It would seem to me that the old bait was still good and should make sure it is hooked good and reuse it.

    • @joshuachristiansen4253
      @joshuachristiansen4253 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Well, it depends. If the bait is still good, then they keep, but if it's been chewed up by another fish and there's no meat and just skin then they throw it overboard or in general if the fish don't like the bait. But the halibut aren't picky they will eat anything just like lingcod do.

    • @joshuachristiansen4253
      @joshuachristiansen4253 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      One time, we put skate bait on our halibut hooks, and they loved it at least the bigger ones, tho but from there on we used salmon and cod and it proved better.

      The camera angles are definitely something we'll work on. I feel like the old setup wasn't great for recording either though, there was nowhere to mount it on the back rail, so it was always far from the action. Gonna get a mount to swing out on the stabilizer for next season.

    The refit of you boat is not as conducive as far as listening to your conversations. Also it’s like the fish disappear after caught. What has seperated you from others is the word family. It’s there I know but you have had to use a tune as a filler at times, even when coments are being made about the catch. Can’t here you.if possibles a wider view from the side you are fishing might help. I’m sure you know this , and the bottom line is $. Very fun to watch your family make a living.
