I JUST caught my first Striper an hour ago! 27inches 😀😀😀😀🥰 I am so stoked. Took it home and about to fillet him up for dinner! The adrenaline was amazing! I wanted to catch more but decided to head home after the epic catch! You were my first fishing TH-camr and you have always inspired me to keep going out even if you don’t catch anything. I’ve been fishing for almost 3 years and I finally got my striper!

That was quite a haul in such a small boat. When I was fifteen, I went on a party boat out of Berkeley one afternoon, and caught 42lb and 28 lbs halibut off of seal rocks. I thought I hooked the bottom. The fish wouldn't budge! Then the skipper started yelling at me " I'm not letting the boat drift into the f---- rocks, damn it, either you get that thing up or I cut the line! It took all I had, but man, what a fish.

We won the Halibut Derby out of Port San Luis . We had the first biggest fish (34lbs) ,the third biggest fish (26lbs) and heaviest stringer . We had 8 halibut ,I don't remember the overall weight but the smallest fish was 14lbs . I was on a party boat once off Santa Rosa Island ,limits of White Sea Bass and 3 Halibut on deck 42lbs,46lbs and 48lbs ! They stuffed as much of the biggest in a 109 qt ice chest and side it under a table and the Halibut started thrashing and ripped the bolts (that secured the table) out of the deck .lol I've had World Class days out of Port San Luis and Santa Barbara ! Nice fish Bro ,new subscriber ,keep it up!

Note: Cabellas XMLTiS 6'6" medium light fresh water rod. Okay, so I'm a novice but it works fine for Spotted Bay Bass. I'll be the first one to admit, "I don't know what I'm doing"', but never the less, it was an experience that will never be forgotten. Oh boy, can't even imagine a 20 pounder. Your videos are inspiration. Now about that kayak.

Very cool video! Also, you provide a great lesson on “reel down, slowly lift, reel down, slowly lift, etc.. - repeat”. Too many folks just crank the reel and have trouble gaining line because they’re not using the rod. using the rod.

I used to chase the halibut in MB and estuary waters too, and in 1981 Had the big fish record of 49 1/2 pounds caught in Moss Landing. in about five feet of water. I was using a trolling lure called "Big Mac", a deep diving lure used for casting and trolling. Over the years I have caught so many, and often was fishing with my brother-in-law and limiting out with five fish each.

Absolutely amazing video! Maybe the reason why that one rod keeps on going off is because if you’re fishing a depth change or some sort of break then that rod is fishing one side of that line while the other rod is on the other. If you keep fishing that break in the same direction and the halibut are also sitting on that one side of that break then that rod will always go off.

Nice fish, I think Halibut is in the flounder family correct? Here in Florida we have flounder but nothing that big, up north in Long Island NY we call them Fluke, some get quite big on the east end certain time of the year, not uncommon to find one 10lb or better, we call those "door mats"
