*YOU 2 SHOULD DO AN EXHIBITION...!!!* These videos are amazing - Im a bespoke tailor of mens historical clothing and to see the visual language of fashion tied so expertly to fonts and then fonts tied with greater expertise to the fashion is just SUCH an amazing experience - something totally new. This is worthy of a show...!!!
Love seeing the use of Atkinson Hyperlegible outside of its dedicated video. I use it on every piece of text I generate where accessibility is most important (geriatric patient care forms, for example).
I use it when I need people to be able to read shit at small font sizes or from far away, like on a slide show presentation (obviously when appropriate)
Me too. I've printed two booklets in it. The first, fittingly, was the accelerationist manifesto. The second, not so fittingly, was an abridged Tao Te Ching.
I agree. The text looks like it's reflecting off water ripples, very clean, cool and smooth, while the outfit is more or less the polar opposite. I don't think Linus likes distressed fonts much, but maybe he could make an exception here?
This was so satisfying to watch, the outfits felt so dramatic compared to some of the original choices, and loved hearing your thought processes behind your decisions. A friend said the original creator missed out on a chance to do Wingdings, would have loved to see that, haha!
Now I kind of want you to select fonts for various outfits I own. I wonder if we’ll get to select our own fonts to float above us when we’re all avatars in the metaverse
Saw this video popping off on Reddit and thought "something is off with the fonts they chose, I hope Linus does a video on it", and here we are! great video as always.
loooove this video. ive followed wisdom kaye for a while and love his styling, but i so agree that the outfits are way too incredible for the cliche, overused fonts presented. love the fonts you chose and the thought you put into them! love different expertise in different kinds of arts coming together to make something truly wonderful
I’m really enjoying the 5 minute videos. It imparts just enough information that makes me spend the next three hours reading up on esoteric typography and wishing I could somehow use it in my quarterly budget report slide decks.
Hey Linus, can we get a video from you tiering and breaking down the old vintage travel posters of the 30s/40s/50s/60s etc? I'd LOVE to see your opinion on their aesthetics
Imma be real I think your Font choices did not fit the Outfits that much at all BUT they all look amazing and are great Graphic Design recommendations!
I can't put in words how much I love the internet for this. The original video and even more so this one. Another banger, Linus! (from a lover of design and fonts, as well as fashion and generally aesthetics)
I knew Linus would be able to upgrade these fonts and I love the thinking behind why you chose them. As a UX Designer and Font Nerd, I agree so much with all these choices!!
I saw the original video a couple days ago and thought it was super creative. I love your font pairings--I think they fit the outfits perfectly--it's so much more special than the typical typefaces. I hope the original creator of the video gets to see this.
Honestly when you showed the alternatives these somwhow got more classier, not to say that Wisdom's choices weren't but it just goes to show when two experts meet it suddenly elevates (sorry english not my main language hope this makes sense 😅)
Strange time to upload. Stranger that I’m not the only one up, heading to work watching this extremely niche channel. Love your videos mate! My pops made some business cards the other day that would have made you sick to your stomach. I didn’t have the heart to tell him they were awful. I went with “busy but fine”.
The original is being 'corrected' almost.... but I thought the original was awesome. Of course if you see the outfits you can find a better font to it, but the maker did the opposite; choosing a famous font and designing an outfit to it. He nailed it if you ask me.
I feel like all the fonts in the original video were better because ppl actually use the fonts (more often) that he made tangible. Especially for college students. I relate more to his. He did such a good job on those font looks and was very creative. Even upgrading JCPenny fonts from your words.
This is my first time watching your content, and you clearly know a lot about fonts-certainly way more than I do. However, I have to disagree. Not only do I feel like his outfits already almost perfectly encapsulate the fonts he's showing, but a lot of your recommendations seem to either not work as well or feel completely disconnected. Again, not knocking your abilities, but if I had to match each font with each of his outfits, the original fonts would have been really easy. With some of the new fonts, I would have absolutely no clue where they would match-they seemed completely disconnected from the outfits. That being said, both the Kablamo and Resistance ones were dope and definitely fit the outfits perfectly.
It's very interesting to me how, even as someone who knows little about fonts and even less about fashion, I could still intuit how much better some of your chocies worked for those outfits. Good stuff, my man!
I _love_ this video (and I’m no font maven). The pairings with the fonts are superb-I can see immediately how your choices are infinitely better than the ones chosen in the video!
This is so helpful, to the point and still very entertaining for a font noob like me :) Would love more videos showcasing alternatives for popular fonts!
I think I disagree with most of these - maybe just because the font choices feel like they are mostly trying to upstage the looks, but also a little bit on the interpretation of what those fonts mean to the reader. Kablammo is a good pick for that outfit - though I think Digestive would actually work just as well, and better than for the earth tone linens - but the rest feel off, some by a little, some by a lot. Spaceland is definitely way too playful for that look. I feel like you’d see something more like Tachyon with that, or maybe Megavolt if you didn’t care about readability.
Omg i thought of you when i saw his video because of your papyrus video!! Lololol i saw him use papyrus and i was just like "... avatar memes incoming"
I wonder if Nan Spaceland is going for "Compliant mechanism" idea? I bring it up because I expected some more sci-fish font and this choice didn't amaze me like for example Rubik did. Can't quite put it into words other than the Rubik really impressed me.
Courier is a monospace font, which is suitable for some workaday tasks that require grids of text; I would think a replacement should also be monospaced.
With respect, I like Wisdom Kaye’s version, he’s a very talented, creative individual, give him that. This was not necessary; Not to say your version was bad.
Courier is my daily correspondence font and when this compilation dropped in my feed I looked at my outfit and it was a perfect match. *[Minus the hat. I am old school, I would never wear a hat indoors. *(Protective helmets and welding masks are an exception.)]
I like that you deliberately chose 4:3 because it went better with the portrait style videos your discussing. If this had been done in the standard TH-cam 16:9, it would have made the fashion videos even harder to see.
Would you consider doing a deep dive into maths fonts and specifically about how maths symbols are designed differently in different fonts? (pretty please)
I feel like a lot of these are good matches but the Papyrus replacements, I just can't get behind. They both feel too modern and not totally connected with the outfit. This isn't saying that Papyrus is the best choice for a font, mind you, only that I don't think these replacements fit the brief.
Totally think Picnic suits that fit better than Digestive. Digestive is too clean and edgy, it looks more like some kind of pop-up artisanal CBD lemonade shop; Picnic looks like an employee-owned vegan cafe with lots of old wood and stickers everywhere
In addition to the earlier suggestion regarding travel posters, would love to see your take on “vintage fruit crate label” typography. Search that phrase and you’ll see what I mean. Thanks❣️
Monospace is difficult to read in text, but essential for numbers, especially in tables. It keeps all numbers aligned equally, so it is visually easy to compare big numbers.
Intel One Mono is a recently produced monospace typeface that worked wonders for me when writing some really repetitive vba scripts. I feel like its letterforms are more distinct from one another than bog standard monospace fonts like Courier New, and it's heaps better than Roboto Mono, which seems to favor aesthetics over efficient letterform discernment.
reupload due to audio issues. another short and light video. some fonts are going to be more divisive than others, but that's fashion, baby!
@LinusBoman, that's told you.
Been told ☑️

Learning about the existence of a French avant-garde type collective made my day brighter
And the font looks great too.
And there is more than just velvetyne ! We love fonts in France ❤
Specially libre foundries, newest discovery I have found is X Cicéro.
A video right down my alley 🙏😌
The original fashion video was already creative, but turning the process the other way around is a great addition!
Love seeing the use of Atkinson Hyperlegible outside of its dedicated video. I use it on every piece of text I generate where accessibility is most important (geriatric patient care forms, for example).
Same. I love Atkinson so much, I use it for so many projects. It's my favorite accessible font.
I just wish it had more character support, no cyrillic support is a total deal-breaker for me
I use it when I need people to be able to read shit at small font sizes or from far away, like on a slide show presentation (obviously when appropriate)
Same, I love the font so much. I literally tell everyone about it.
Me too. I've printed two booklets in it. The first, fittingly, was the accelerationist manifesto. The second, not so fittingly, was an abridged Tao Te Ching.
Loving these bite sized videos. They still feel like they have some substance even though they aren't as long
And 4:3
When I saw his last one originally I thought it was going to be Jokerman. Kablamo is a great call there!
the google recommended rocks were amazing in terms of crunchy mouth feel but the glue just left me with an unwelcome physical after effects
1:29 I don't know about this one, the outfit gives more of an "Egypt explorer from 30s-40s" vibe and Papyrus is closer to it.
I agree. The text looks like it's reflecting off water ripples, very clean, cool and smooth, while the outfit is more or less the polar opposite. I don't think Linus likes distressed fonts much, but maybe he could make an exception here?
Papyrus is just too cheesy.
@@DadgeCity It was good enough for Avatar

Lol I just saw the original video pop up on my social media feed. Thank you for the highly entertaining upgrade!
Me too! Crazy how my youtube and instagram algorithms are colliding
Same here!
I understand the feeling that his fonts are more basic but I think his outfits match the shapes of the letters in the fonts he chose better
loooove this video. ive followed wisdom kaye for a while and love his styling, but i so agree that the outfits are way too incredible for the cliche, overused fonts presented. love the fonts you chose and the thought you put into them! love different expertise in different kinds of arts coming together to make something truly wonderful

Instructions unclear, ate glue and rocks.
For all its controversy, DuckDuckGo looks like a better solution now, doesn't it?
Imma be real I think your Font choices did not fit the Outfits that much at all BUT they all look amazing and are great Graphic Design recommendations!
Thank you for pointing me toward Velvetyne.

Time zones?
I saw this reel yesterday and I had the same thoughts. Great outfits but clearly a mismatch with these default font choices. Love your suggestions.
Rubik is the only swap that really made sense to me. Great video, even if I didn't quite agree with mosts of them.
The original is being 'corrected' almost.... but I thought the original was awesome. Of course if you see the outfits you can find a better font to it, but the maker did the opposite; choosing a famous font and designing an outfit to it. He nailed it if you ask me.

WE NEED A BOMAN×KAYE COLLAB OMG
MAKE IT HAPPEN!
I love the way he originally styled them.
1:54 I want to mention that courier is a monospace font, which is useful in some scenarios, so clarendon doesn't really replace it because of that.
Yeah but there are way better monospaced fonts than courier.
Oh, this was a delight... thank you!
I _love_ this video (and I’m no font maven). The pairings with the fonts are superb-I can see immediately how your choices are infinitely better than the ones chosen in the video!

Haha love it Linus! Had the same thought that the outfits were so much better than the actual typefaces that inspired them!
Omg Ohno Type! I love Davida, so when I saw y'all made Casserole my jaw dropped. It's so good!
So happy to see more frequent uploads
*NO 2 RESiiiiSTANCE* that pairing was exceptional
Love this and your choices were excellent
Linus talking about fonts just hits different, every single one of those pairings made me feel something.
Outstanding choices
very nice observations! i love your pairings so much - especially that last one
Watching you talk about fonts is relaxing and very entertaining.
A channel that covers fonts? You just got a sub.
This is so helpful, to the point and still very entertaining for a font noob like me :) Would love more videos showcasing alternatives for popular fonts!
Wow, a solid match for each one. Amazed by this, so fun!
You cooked with that last 🔥🤯
For the futuristic outfit I would go with a dot matrix style font.
Like Nothing's typeface.
I think I disagree with most of these - maybe just because the font choices feel like they are mostly trying to upstage the looks, but also a little bit on the interpretation of what those fonts mean to the reader. love this oncept, unexpected but reallly cool collab :)
Loving the 4:3 aspect ratio.
This is my preferred kind of pedantry. Spectacularly done, sir.
Love the chunky aspect ratio!
impact would be more of an set of police taped outfits because of how it used to often be associated as a warning text
Nailed it! This was so fun to watch!

Damn I think the only new choices I rated were Rubik and Kablammo
The AI diss at the end was excellent
Courier is a monospace font, which is suitable for some workaday tasks that require grids of text; I would think a replacement should also be monospaced.
Thank you for this. I loved that fashion video concept, but none of the fonts seemed to match. These are much better pairings.
Solid type choices as always (but personally haven't really liked Picnic or Kablammo though), but Franklin Gothic is still fire though 😄
for the look at 1:58 i'm thinking trinité. It really gives the swingy vibes
i love your pairings! i thought of you when i first watched the tiktok!
With respect, I like Wisdom Kaye’s version, he’s a very talented, creative individual, give him that. This was not necessary; Not to say your version was bad.
Please continue to make longer essay videos as well! Maybe about book font titles or styling!
Damn i dont know why but font history is so interesting hahahaha, great video!

The Times-Arial-Calibri-Aptos switching is mostly to catch low-effort document forgers.
Came right from TikTok 👀 Great vidéo! So glad the algorithm helped me find you! ✨
Thank you for putting the fonts in the description! But why would you not put them in the order you mentioned them in the video!?
I like that you deliberately chose 4:3 because it went better with the portrait style videos your discussing. If this had been done in the standard TH-cam 16:9, it would have made the fashion videos even harder to see.
Great stuff! Keep them coming
Love the quick takes! Thanks Linus 😊
this is amazing
I thought you were going to say jokerman at the end but that font is NICE
strong video! really entertaining
Velvetyne ❤ as a french graphic design student that's my life
i will send to all my loved ones whomst has sent me the Tik of Tok
i also appreciate the 4:3 aspect ratio! because why always 16:9

Making the original clip have a run for their money.
Albertus looks like Trajan to me, which makes it a very funny pairing 😅
brilliant
Nah man I'm sorry, I get the idea but replacing Futura with something that looks like it came off my CorelDraw fonts CD? Nah man
Not in 99% of cases. But it doesn't fit the albino spaceman vibes at all.
At least make it fucking white! Dude I'm sorry
@@LinusBoman Strong disagree
But what about Glassure?
Thank you Gutenberg

Random thought, do you have any strong opinions about monospace fonts? I write software, could maybe have some fun making my IDE more interesting.

Comic Sans Mono shows up in his Comic Sans video, honestly I've seen it for ten seconds and i'm a fan
