You saying, "I think Lestat played a role in his brother dying" and immediately following it with "also Lestat is my favorite character" is such an IWTV mood 😅 I'm loving your reactions and I can't wait to see what you think of the next one!

You said there are no throwaway lines and that’s so true. Especially on rewatch you see how precise and tight (in addition to poetic) the writing is. One line I love is how Lestat tells Louis, essentially, he searched over 100 years before finding him. Louis “has no twin.” Louis wasn’t just a pretty face Lestat fell for and decided to turn. It’s deeper than that for him.
*Nothing* in this series is throwaway. (Research background details and you will find a wealth of information that informs the scene.) The aria that they're listening to is called 'Tornami a dir che m'ami' ("Go back to telling me you love me") and it's about needing to be close to one's beloved and how their voice, so dear, "revives the oppressed heart." I think that part of what upset Lestat was not just that the tenor's voice was off, but that he was trying to use the opera as a means of communicating his love for Louis. The mistakes corrupted that message. That's why he's even more upset when Louis chastises him at home. He *really* wants Louis to understand him, and he's already tried once that night (unsuccessfully) to forge a connection. Now they're fighting and he's feeling rejected again. Soooo he starts screaming, Louis feels alienated (and feels like a failure as a vampire), and even sharing the victim isn't going to fix it. This is sort of an encapsulation of their relationship: the way they try and fail to make themselves seen and understood, each by the other. And that's the tragedy: it's not that there isn't love there, it's that they just can't seem to express it the right way. (And isn't that just so very human?)
I came from Frank's channel, I love both of your reactions! What I appreciate most is that when you have a lot to say about a particular scene or moment, you don't just talk over the dialog, you pause the show and get your thoughts out. And you don't do it so often that you're constantly interupting the experience for yourself, which some people do as well. So both you guys' reaction styles are on POINT and super enjoyable to watch. Please do keep posting these, I'm loving them so far!
I LOVE that last bit from Daniel. The actor who plays him, like you can SEE the mix of emotions in his eyes. The fondness, the nostalgia, a hint of bittersweetness. As an actor myself the subtext of what he's remembering is practically SHOUTING through his eyes. I can't tell if it's just because his actor is that good but Daniel is my favourite character in the show, and that's a hard decision to make with this cast.
Loved this reaction:) keep these coming! In the original books, Louis is white (actually owned a plantation, including enslaved people), plus while the Louis/Lestat relationship was still intense and complicated in the book, it wasn't explicitly sexual - Anne Rice, the author, got away with writing them as queer men by saying vampires don't have intercourse, so her books didn't get censored or banned (despite the wildly erotic and twisted tone, and events). The series elevates and reinterprets, and engages with race and sexuality in really interesting ways, so the showrunners get full credit for most of this. Matter of fact, the original Interview with The Vampire (first book in the series) is Louis' first interview with Daniel - whereas they start in modern day, and create the context entirely for the second interview, as a completely new thing. It's such a creative and smart way to adapt it, those writers deserve all the recognition!

I really hope you keep keep going with this show here on TH-cam. Now that it's available on Netflix, more people will likely discover it and hopefully, you too.
Daniel is one of my favorites, I'm glad you appreciated that little bit from him at the end. His character is pretty simple on the surface, he's an audience insert and the interviewer keeping the story going, but he's also clearly a character on his own and that's awesome. Lestat and Louis relationship is so messy in so many ways. It's incredibly toxic and you can see the manipulation and icky elements when it comes to how their races play a factor, but at the same time you can feel the chemistry and it makes you want to root for them, I love it. A Season 1 review with Frank would be awesome! It's always fun to discuss a show when you can bounce thoughts off another person in real time. I'm only a couple of minutes in, but, YES, someone finally mentions the role of the church and religion. The author always had a complicated relationship with religion. She was always very open where she was in her beliefs and weaved religion and philosophy throughout many of her works. Even as a nonreligious person, I found it fascinating to read.

The base of the story/book was by Anne Rice ...you should read her non vampire book about New Orleans called "The Feast of all Saints"...the also made a mini series of it in the 90's with so many black stars
You flatter me🙏🏿..also I got a few episodes to let you down😅😭😭 but I'll try to keep the positive streak going ...in all seriousness I'm glad you're enjoying my point of view
dude i'm loving your commentary as you go, specially from someone who has no context of the story from the movie or the books because it is such a fresh perspective, and you're meeting each of the characters for the first time
I'm so glad YT recommended Frank to me and then I found you through him! I'm glad you're continuing to post these. I love seeing thoughtful reactors who take the time to discuss their impressions and interpretations of the characters plus, in the context of this show, are knowledgeable about the racial aspects and aren't afraid to discuss those too. This show is the perfect example of changing a character's race (since Louis was white in the books and first movie) and actually making it meaningful... and honestly I don't think I would have loved this adaptation as much if not for that change and Jacob Anderson's brilliant acting as Louis.
I'm with you 100%.. I wasnt aware their was a race change so I can't comment on it being seamless or anything but it feels very natural..everything makes since in this world
TH-cam gang here, I'm keeping up with both of your reactions. I reylike the difference between your views. Love how you touched upon the writing on Lestat, how he keeps saying lines that can both come across as manipulative and sincere. It will pay off in season 2. And then in season 3.
What's funny is I had no idea franks views were so strong because we couldn't talk about the show in depth at all so watching his episode 1 reaction I was jsut grinning because I know my friend and he didn't disappoint..right or wrong he opinionated and will always speak his peace..we've had so really good convos as of late about the characters can't wait to bring that to you all
i love how this show doesn't hide from the theme of overcoming and enduring, especially in the realms of sexuality and race. your reaction and commentary really highlights how effective it is. hopefully your eye injury is healing okay. can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of season one.
I've been loving all of your commentary so far, and I'm gonna go ahead and confirm that yes, there is a Season 2 (and it's somehow even BETTER than Season 1 in my opinion?!), so good for you as a fan and for us viewers that we get more awesome videos out of it! And I can't justify Lestat killing an innocent man, but I can point out for anyone who can't empathize with his choice that there was a very on-point tumblr post a while back asking you to imagine being married to a vampire who looks like Jacob Anderson, not being able to ever act like a couple in public because you're in an interracial, gay relationship in the early 1900s, and so you finally get a huge date night planned to go and see the 1900s equivalent of Beyonce. And you've hyped Louis up so much, because he doesn't even know who Beyonce is in this scenario, and Beyonce is doing an amazing job onstage, and then! She brings out Harry Styles. And you can try to keep the hype going, but then Harry Styles doesn't leave, and even though you paid to see Beyonce, what you're really watching right now is Harry Styles singing with Beyonce and overpowering her perfect vocals, and now you're scared you'll never be able to lift Louis out of his existential crisis AND you took him on a bad date night AND you don't get to enjoy Beyonce. So again, can't justify Lestat's choice, but give me 150 years removed from humanity, ruin my Beyonce date night, and I just might turn to murder, too!
Yes! Would definitely love to see a season 1 breakdown with Frank! Another great reaction. I love watching show-only audiences absorb the nuances of Lestat and Louis's characters and you do a great job of it. It's a testament to both the novels' and show's writing, but also your perspective is really interesting since you give all the characters so much grace to be the complex monsters they are (something not all reactioners do tbh lol). Looking forward to the next one and hope you're taking care of yourself.
Thank you melt, yes the characters are some of the best I've come across in a long time. I wish had read the books. However, I'm glad I can experience this blind. Early on I could feel from the performances I was going to try and give every character room to do their thing..appreciate every actors acting ability because it's is right in our face how much they care about these characters. Wrong or right I want to experience them each the way they were intended to be experienced.
Daniel being in love with imperfections is such an astute observation... It's not one that a lot of reactors here on TH-cam connect the dots on. That is absolutely true to the character of Daniel, though. If he loves someone he loves them in their ENTIRETY ...imperfections and flaws and all. I think there's even a part of Daniel who loves them FOR their flaws and imperfections, at times.... Instead of loving someone despite them... So yeah, you hit the nail on the head with that one!!! I've only seen like one or two other people figure that out... none of them as soon as you have, though... But yeah this show is definitely a show where most of the dialogue is super important... It's kind of similar to the early seasons of game of thrones. Pretty much all of the dialogue had a purpose and gave, sometimes significant, insight into things happening.
the way you are analyzing Lestat is spot on without never reading the books lol. i came from the other channel, but i love how in depth you go with thr characters.😅
Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase, keep reacting to this show! Not many people do and you're one of the best, I love your insight and opinions on the characters, you take time to actually understand what you're watching and analyze what's going on. I'm already enjoying these A LOT!
Chiming in to say yeah, I came over here from Frank's channel. I'm a very recent follower over there and here, specifically because of the IWTV reactions. For me, watching reaction videos is a fantastic way to keep my excitement (and relative sanity) during the long waits between seasons.
‘Oh but he can’t read his mind anymore’ LOVE that u drew attention to this because I hadn’t even thought of that omg. So excited to see u react to this show!!
I kinda understand why lestat doesn't like florence Louis mother as someone who has read some of the books in the chronicles lestat is truly sincere he loves Louis so much because of his childhood he doesn't like to be abandoned
Fledgling is a Word that is used for younger vampires in Anne Rice’s books. Before I went through the books, I didn’t necessarily like how Lestat would call him that. Now I get it 😅
It is still kinda like calling someone "child"/"young one"/etcetera-which can still be done sometimes a little condescendingly/belittlingly, too, especially if/when done by someone not your own progenitor/parent/maker/what-have-you. But, more specifically, it tends to be used for a maker's own progeny in particular-so, in that sense, it's more like calling someone "fam"/"family".
@@jaginaiaelectrizs6341 I know 😅as mentioned above in the books. New vampires are referred to as fledgelings it has nothing to do with race. (I’m not saying Lestat is innocent) Lestat wasn’t just saying it to be mean. But It’s just how it’s written in the books by Anne Rice. according to vampire rules Lestat is his family/maker,if you think about it 😅🚨🚨🚨🚨 In the books Louis is white and the way Lestat treats him in the series. It’s exactly how he treats him in the Books. ( I understand as black people we can’t help but feel away about certain things and in this type of situations. Given how we are treated oftenly ) If you haven’t I recommend reading the books or listening to the audio version. It will clarify things for you when it comes to to this story🙂
I'm glad you did put this up on YT, and grateful to Frank for kindly pointing us this way! Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the series, for sure!!!
Lestat was trying to spare Louis pain, and his family, by telling him to pull away and leave them, because at some point either Louis will hurt them, or they will discover his secret, and lose them anyway.
AHHHH IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, you’ve been my favourite reaction channel for this show you really give all the characters the same level of interest and I love it. Thank you RAHHHH
@@foxtacoon my way to watch it now, also thank you for all your reactions and commentary, it’s all really appreciated and interesting to see you break everything down. If you decide to watch season 2, I think you’ll enjoy it a lot. A lot to break down, gets even more complicated.
loving your commentary so much! i feel like i learn something new each time 😲 you and Frank have such a great eye for picking this show apart, in different ways, but both your insights is so incredibly valuable esp as black men watching a show with a black male lead. really great stuff and can't wait for more ❤
Definitely open to watching you and Frank gab together about Interview s1 in hindsight/review or whatever any time, if you two are up for that that, you both have great insights and energy that plays well off each other.😊 But that's up to the two of you, of course! 💖
It's completely normal to view Lestat as a manipulative abuser. In fact the show invites you to do so. For some reason too many IWTV fans can't conceive this. Let reactors feel the way they feel about events an characters. The show does a great job of revealing things at the right time. Let the man watch the show and stop policing his honest reactions.
I came from Frank’s channel. Really enjoyed your chat after Episode 1 and would like a chat between you and Frank about season 1 when you are done watching.
I would love to hear you and Frank discuss, at the end of the season or whenever! I absolutely adore listening to insightful people pick apart this amazing show ❤
4:05 - I'm not sure if the victim was still alive, or if that was just Louis screaming and groaning in distress and discomfort in the background as Louis' human body dies and the vampire transformation overtakes Louis, at least until the overwhelming near-euphoric high takes over as the new inhuman capabilities of Louis' vampire senses kick in.🤔 👀 😁😁
Is he being manipulative or is he being honest? I don't think they're often separate for Lestat. At the opera house, I think he is being manipulative and honestly vulnerable. It's everything at once.
Olurinatti POP! also clocked that "you have a banjo band in your front yard" was a diss. I didn't get that. She literally said it was the only time she ever kinda liked Lestat because he was funny. I missed the joke entirely. I thought he meant like well, guess I'll go watch the band cuz it's awkward standing here talking to you. But apparently he read her for filth.
O yea lol..he was talking mad shit was a smile on his face..a banjo is seen by non southerners as a low class instrument..that jsut makes " BIONG" sounds 🤣🤣🤣
Yeah, I think it was a dig because she called him overdressed in what he was wearing and he was like "you have a LIVE band in the front of your yard for this party... what are you talking about?"... That's just what I read into it but I am not from the US 🤷♀️ regardless of his EXACT wording behind what he said... he was DEFINITELY meaning it as a petty insult in response to being called overdressed.
I liked your original thought process of comparing Louis and Lestat's kill. Lestat killed this opera singer because he felt some type about his performance. Louis killed this white man because he felt some type a way about the way he talked to him. Obviously with Louis' kill race is tied into it but they both felt some type of offense and killed these men because of it.
15:18 you're asking about the writers of the show... Surprisingly, it was majority white people, from what I've found online. A couple of the writers have lived in the southern US... But not all of them... It's kind of surprising how well this show is written considering that they don't necessarily have a lot of writers who have lived experience of the themes that are tackled in the show... It honestly makes me think that the writers are really really really really good or at the very least they listen to the sensitivity writers that they consult... The actors have said in interviews that the writer's room takes into account what the actors think as well during the script writing process(which is really extremely rare... most writers rooms do NOT do this)... Though there are quite a few POC in the main cast of this show... all of them are British. None of them are from the US. So yeah... the specific Southern US POC POV... Isn't really actively in the writer's room... They're just doing really really good research and probably consulting sensitivity writers and listening to them closely... So yeah I think the fact that you are resonating so much with the writing that they have done as someone who does absolutely have that lived experience... further solidifies, to me, that I think they just have really good writers on this show!
Every detail of this series is SO well done that I've been following the writers/actors/production people to see bts stuff. They do an incredible amount of research and are very obsessive about getting every detail right -- and it shows!
I come from franks vidoe but im staying for both commentaries. Honestly i love both of your commentaries. I feel that his sees it more how Louis feels and you can see hiw lestat sees the story of their love. Like obviously not as them but as like their morality and view of the world. Both arent wrong and bith arent right.
Yeah I don't think it's a spoiler to say that the interview DOES eventually end lmao... And within the book series things continue on through current day like you are hoping and expecting they will... Technically only the FIRST book in like the 15 books book series is Louis' interview with Daniel... So in the grand scheme of things it's a pretty small chunk of the story... It's still an important one but it's a small one and only the beginning of things.
I found you through FrankFreezy-just discovered his channel right around when he recommended yours. The algorithm had smiled upon me that day, to give me such a fortuitous recommendation!!!😂😂💖💖 Yes: Louis = Lew-ee (not Lew) 😊 😂😂💖 ((although maybe you've already gotten it down, yourself, by now! ^-^)) I don't struggle with it for this(IWTV) tv series, only because I've been in the Vampire Chronicles fandom for two decades by now. But the struggle to remember like any character's name is so real for me too when I'm just first trying to get into a wholly new book or movie or tv series or anything(and trying to back it up or pause to go look it up in the middle of watching or talking about it afterward all the time can be such a pain in the butt sometimes), so I completely feel you for that.😅😅 🙃🫣😶👀 🙏😁

What's funny is I had no idea franks views were so strong because we couldn't talk about the show in depth at all so watching his episode 1 reaction I was jsut grinning because I know my friend and he didn't disappoint..right or wrong he opinionated and will always speak his peace..we've had so really good convos as of late about the characters can't wait to bring that to you all
Just have to say in case anyone is new and doesn't know, this guy did the BEST REACTION EVER to Lord of the Rings. Best. Ever.
You are the greatest ARC 🙏🏿♥️
@@foxtaco awww...nah...im just being honest. Your reaction to LoTR is epic. So layered and thoughtful and insightful. You made me cry! ♥️♥️♥️
Aaawww🥹🥹Arc foreal?? I'm really glad we got to share that together!!
@@foxtaco absolutely for real...and ive watched it more than once...and cry every time! Thank you for creating it ♥️♥️♥️
Your reaction is great!! you had me cracking up. This show has hooked and locked me in like no other.
Same! I'm locked in🙏🏿 thank you for checking me out
Oh we in here 🙏🏾🔥
👀......😈
i love the quiet and contemplative ending to this episode so much!
I liked that last line from Daniel too, I remember my first time watching this episode I was like "damn his wife's eyebrows sound cool as h3ll" 😂
i love how this show doesn't hide from the theme of overcoming and enduring, especially in the realms of sexuality and race. your reaction and commentary really highlights how effective it is. hopefully your eye injury is healing okay. can't wait to see your reactions to the rest of season one.
I love your reactions!! You’re actually able to enjoy the show without moralizing EVERYTHING.
the way you are analyzing Lestat is spot on without never reading the books lol. i came from the other channel, but i love how in depth you go with thr characters.😅
Thank you🙏🏿 I really appreciate that, I just try to keep an open mind
I hope you will react to season 2, as well. Season 2 is really important to understand more of Louis and why he is the way he is in present time.
Pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaase, keep reacting to this show! Not many people do and you're one of the best, I love your insight and opinions on the characters, you take time to actually understand what you're watching and analyze what's going on. I'm already enjoying these A LOT!
Thank you !! I'll keep going for sure
i loved your reaction!! i'm sorry about your eye injury, i hope you will heal soon !
Thank you anna♥️
Chiming in to say yeah, I came over here from Frank's channel. I'm a very recent follower over there and here, specifically because of the IWTV reactions. For me, watching reaction videos is a fantastic way to keep my excitement (and relative sanity) during the long waits between seasons.
‘Oh but he can’t read his mind anymore’ LOVE that u drew attention to this because I hadn’t even thought of that omg. So excited to see u react to this show!!
A season 1 review would be awesome! :D
If it happens gotta do it with Frank!
I kinda understand why lestat doesn't like florence Louis mother as someone who has read some of the books in the chronicles lestat is truly sincere he loves Louis so much because of his childhood he doesn't like to be abandoned
I did come here via FrankFreezy -- I really like both of your reactions! Very observant, very astute! I'll keep watching you both. 🧛♀
Thank you 🙏🏿..I think Franks in Season 2
I came over because of FrankFreezy! 🖤🌹🖤🧛🏻
S/O FRANK and yourself 🙏🏿 thank you for coming over
Fledgling is a Word that is used for younger vampires in Anne Rice’s books.
These reactions and when they're happening are great. This show is so good with doing such complex characters
ugh your comment about Lestat's religious trauma was so inspired!!
Thanks, Taco! 🧛♀ The best is yet to come.
I'm pumped!!!
@@foxtaco Week after week it blew me away... particularly in the second season. I'm so excited to watch you experience it all!
I'm glad you did put this up on YT, and grateful to Frank for kindly pointing us this way!
Looking forward to your thoughts on the rest of the series, for sure!!!
Great reaction! I'm really enjoying your insight!
Thank you em !
Lestat was trying to spare Louis pain, and his family, by telling him to pull away and leave them, because at some point either Louis will hurt them, or they will discover his secret, and lose them anyway.
2:04 gosh you are so good at this!!!
Honestly i just keep laughing at the baby on the floor. Even it was the safest place to leave it😂😂😂
Jesus you said something so right about Lestat's turning at the beginning of the reaction... you telepathically know the book 😮
Great reaction and I LOLed when you accidentally realized you got Louis' name right. :-)
🤣🤣🤣🤣
AHHHH IVE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS, you’ve been my favourite reaction channel for this show you really give all the characters the same level of interest and I love it. Thank you RAHHHH
Aw thank you, I just posted episode 3 as well hope you enjoy
@@foxtacoon my way to watch it now, also thank you for all your reactions and commentary, it’s all really appreciated and interesting to see you break everything down. If you decide to watch season 2, I think you’ll enjoy it a lot. A lot to break down, gets even more complicated.
Okay. I’ve only watched two of your reactions and you are already one of my favorites. Please tell me you plan to react to s2 and put it on TH-cam?
loving your commentary so much! i feel like i learn something new each time 😲 you and Frank have such a great eye for picking this show apart, in different ways, but both your insights is so incredibly valuable esp as black men watching a show with a black male lead. really great stuff and can't wait for more ❤
Definitely open to watching you and Frank gab together about Interview s1 in hindsight/review or whatever any time, if you two are up for that that, you both have great insights and energy that plays well off each other.😊 But that's up to the two of you, of course!
Came from frank and joined both of y’all’s Patreons. You’re both top tier reactors. 👋🏾😎 I love watching people experience the magic of this show 😭
Thank you 🙏🏿♥️
I came from Frank’s channel. Really enjoyed your chat after Episode 1 and would like a chat between you and Frank about season 1 when you are done watching.
goodbye, eri in the background!!!!
Aayyy real recognize real!!Of course!! Fujimoto went OFF with that one🔥🔥
I would love to hear you and Frank discuss, at the end of the season or whenever! I absolutely adore listening to insightful people pick apart this amazing show ❤
Loved your first reaction and this one too! I hope you decide to continue through with this series, it has definitely become a new favorite of mine
Thanks for watching 🙏🏿
Please keep uploading this series to YT! Love your takes.
Yup..I love that honestly
You should definitely keep watching! It's one of the best shows around right now!
You ain't ever told no lie!!🙏🏿♥️ thanks for supporting
Even if you don’t watch on TH-cam, I hope you continue and finish both seasons. You will lose your mind!
Season 1 is guaranteed to be on youtube and they way you all ate supporting probably season 2 as well
I liked your original thought process of comparing Louis and Lestat's kill. Lestat killed this opera singer because he felt some type about his performance. Louis killed this white man because he felt some type a way about the way he talked to him. Obviously with Louis' kill race is tied into it but they both felt some type of offense and killed these men because of it.
In hindsight, I agree with my first train of thought as well. ( now that's a fun sentence 🤣)
came from frank, remained for the commentary
Thank you 🙏🏿, glad you took franks recommendation and gave me a shot
I’ve always been curious how people interpreted that last line from Daniel..
I came from frank's video!
I adore your takes
Awww thank you🙏🏿♥️
15:18 you're asking about the writers of the show...
You're back! 🥰
Correct Daysie, we back!!🦊🌮🌮
I come from franks vidoe but im staying for both commentaries.
You're not allowed to quit posting these reviews until you've finished Season 2 on TH-cam. K, thanks! Appreciate you! Remember to be awesome!
Nope. I'm done ☺️ lol...in all seriousness thanks for watching
Be prepared for season 2, cause I’m not gonna say anything about it.
Was it manipulation or real? Both lol.
🤷🏿♂️ I'm saying lol manipulation and love
@@foxtaco Still both lol
Yea nah nah I'm with you.." I'm sayin" is a figure of speech just meaning I STRONGLY agree with you
I found you through FrankFreezy-just discovered his channel right around when he recommended yours. The algorithm had smiled upon me that day, to give me such a fortuitous recommendation!!!😂😂💖💖
Yes: Louis = Lew-ee (not Lew) 😊 😂😂💖 ((although maybe you've already gotten it down, yourself, by now! ^-^))
I don't struggle with it for this(IWTV) tv series, only because I've been in the Vampire Chronicles fandom for two decades by now.
