As has been said by others, Banff is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We just finished staying at the Fairmont hotels in Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff - all exquisite and all quite different. And yes, the gold floor staff makes your visit feel like a dream. And while the hotels were wonderful, they pale in comparison to the Rocky Mountains. Maligne Lake has 10 of the 20 tallest peaks in the Canadian Rockies around it. Thank you again to all our Canadian neighbors for making our two week stay in Alberta and British Columbia a trip to remember.
Maligne Lake (mah-leen) is a fabulous lake in neighboring Jasper National Park 300 km / 200 miles north of Banff, and at 28 km / 17 miles long it is the largest glacial lake in the Rocky Mountains, but the highest peak there is Mt Brazeau at 11386 feet above sea level, most others are about 10,500 feet, average for the range. The 300 sq. km / 200 sq. mile Columbia and Clemenceau (cle-mon-so) Icefields which straddle the Banff-Jasper Park boundary has the largest number of high peaks in this region, 15 over 11,000 feet, 3 over 12,000 feet, with steep drops of 10,000 feet down to the nearby Columbia River on the west, which eventually reaches the Pacific Ocean in Oregon USA. Thanks for your nice comments, Americans have been visiting this region since the 1950's and a few even much earlier, by far the majority are very respectful, and they are always welcome.
@Doug Ball How did you like the Lake Louise Fairmont? We visited the Lake out of Banff and were very taken with both locations. Walked through the hotel, and just wondered what it would be like to have stayed there.
@@andrewthornhill7042 It was lovely. It is difficult to beat the view out over the lake toward the mountains. Like the Banff Springs, it is an older hotel so the rooms are cozy. Having said that, I would go back to both hotels without a second thought! The Fairmont Jasper Lodge is very different but also worth a stay. It is all one story buildings and there we had a bedroom and a living room. Very rustic. Loved it. These stays were all part of Rocky Mountaineer vacation - can't say enough good things about them either. It was nice to just sit back in the domed car and watch the scenery go by versus driving a car (which I have also done in BC/Alberta)
@@andrewthornhill7042 the Chateau Lake Louise is actually not a Fairmont Property although it is wonderful it lacks the character and history of the Banff Springs Hotel.
@Doug Ball I thought the Lake Louise hotel WAS a Fairmont property. Has it ever been? I was there in 2009; has it changed owners since?
Went there for a week with my husband...excellent meals...small rooms ..but upgraded for our last two days to one of the suites in the spires at the top at each end..the bed room is in the spire at the top.The shower is all glass wall window ...fantastic...vue to the mountain....library...best room in the hotel.
The Hotel looks like doors in Canada
My family used to rent a lodge in Banff every Christmas/New Years and every New Years day we'd go to the Banff Springs for the New Years Day brunch, absolutely exquisite! Best brunch I've ever had.
sounds expensive
DengrayKai211 about $60 Canadian a plate.
U lucky
@@TH-tl6sy Yes but what year was this in? In 2021 dollars it may be $150 a plate now lol. I might be visiting Banff tomorrow.
Never seen the Fairmont in Banff before. It does look rather majestic. We didn't see too many of the outdoor patios or decks among the mountains but that would bring it all home about where you are. Can just imagine having a cup of tea in the clear mountain air.
As an American Automobile Association field Representative and stationed in Calgary, inspecting hotels and restaurants there, I drove the 160 miles round trip in one day just to have lunch at the Banff and take in the experience of this fine old hotel. It has left a wonderful lasting memory. Thank you for this excellent video. Brought back many great memories.
Husband and I stayed there when they had the Winter Olympics in Calgary. So very beautiful with the snow. Fell in love with Canada.💕
theres also ghosts
cheryl campbell sounds lovely. Wish I could afford
I don’t know if this was mentioned here in the comments section, but the Vermillion Room is famous for its Sunday brunch. It’s a must for those who are staying at the Banff Springs Hotel on any given Sunday. From 11:30am to 2:00pm, guests can enjoy the brunch buffet that is served there. A reservation is the best way to get a table. As for prices, it is C$69 per adult and C$35 per child.
WOW thank you! What a trip down memory lane. Spent the year 1980 working as a waiter in the Alhambra serving lunch to Japanese tour groups and the evening in the Rob Roy - which, at the time, featured the finest Alberta AAA beef and chops. We were taught a hybrid of French service with Chateaubriands carved at the table, and Flambes for desserts. Had the great honour to serve Mr Ivor Petrak on most nights, and I believe many years later the Rob Roy is now the Ivor Petrak room. What a great teacher he was as the legendary GM of The Springs. He did so much for the hotel and opening Alberta and British Columbia to Asian guests. And I am told he knew about the staff fire pit out past the golf course which, to a legion of young English and French Canadians where debauchery and shenanigans took place almost nightly. To say nothing of the day I dropped a soup on a Japanese guest at lunch one day and Mr Petrak asked me about it at dinner - thought I would have a massive coronary right then and there at the ripe age of 20, but he let it slide. RIP Mr Petrak. If you're looking at this video and inspired, its well worth the visit. Thank you for this.
The old Canadian Pacific Hotels..i did meet Mr.Petrak many times at C.P.hotels chateau Airport in Calgary 1979/1987.
I cleaned the Banff Springs Hotel spare furniture attic one afternoon while working there during Christmas of 1977 in my late teens. Ivor jumped right in, supervised moving stuff and even helped out a bit. Great Guy.
@@canadaauroraborealis3958 I'm afraid there likely aren't many like him anymore. Legendary.
This was the largest hotel in the world when it was built.
I absolutely LOVE Fairmont hotels. This one in Banff Springs has taken my breath away. Thanks for sharing.
its also haunted.
Chateau Frontenac in Quebec is also a Fairmont. Stick with Fairmont hotels in Canada and Taj Hotels on India- pricey but well worth the cost!
I will never forget spending two weeks here with my sorority sisters. What a fabulous place. It’s truly a must see and stay.
This hotel began all those years ago as a tourist lure, to get folks to use the railway system. Canada was dependent on the railways to move freight and people from one coast to the other. Having a beautiful hotel set among gorgeous scenery right near a railway station was a very tempting destination for the "upper" class of traveller.
That brings tears to your eyes it's so beautiful! I know I may never be able to afford to stay there but I would sure love to see it in person one day.
denzelsnipes69 I had a day visit and hot chocolate from the cafe - that was all I could afford! Still worth it!
Belive it or not, the Fairmont Banff Springs was actually built backwards, for over half of its construction. When construction workers realized they were reading the blueprints backwards, they made some readjustments to the hotel, and kind of made it work.
2 years ago we overnighted at the Fairmont Hotel at Vancouver Airport following our flight from the UK so that we were fully rested before our 2 day drive to Edmonton. We were not on the Gold Floor but the room had 2 queen size beds and a huge sitting area, however the highlight was the bathroom. I have stayed in hotels with smaller bedrooms! As well as a double washbasin there was a huge walk-in double shower in one corner, a door in the opposite corner revealed a large room containing the toilet. The best thing was the full size bath along one wall, which was made up of sliding shutters to allow the person in the bath to see into the bedroom. Being over 6ft tall, when I was lying in the bath, my feet were unable to touch the other end - it must have been 6ft 6in long. While breakfast was not cheep, $32CD, it was help yourself and everything was wonderful, though they struggled to provide me with a pot of Earl Grey tea, my wife said the coffee was good.
All base on 💰
Wow. I want to stay one day. Banff was a day trip in the summer, growing up in Calgary. I loved visiting the town.
We visited Banff Springs three nights. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will go again. I love exploring and went all over the hotel. It's massive. I like heritage hotels and oftentimes you find that an old hotel, while grand may be a little tattered at the edges. You don't notice this as much at Banff Springs. For the most part the fabric of the hotel is very well cared for. One of my favourite spots is the Wine Bar which is a wonderful room in the hotel's old library. Completely panelled with mullioned and leaded pane windows it looks like a room out of an old stately home. Beautiful.
My daughter worked at the Banff Springs and the Chateau Lake Louise. They were both a Awesome experience. We stayed on the Gold floor at the Banff Springs and stayed in the Marquis de Lorne Suite at Chateau Lake Louise. It was a once in a life time experience.
I stayed here years ago and loved it. I miss it so much, there is so much to see and experience. It was very cozy in the winter and there was even a wild herd of elk in the yard shown at 11:30. This place is truly magical, from the atmosphere of calming music to the year round outdoor pool.
Beautifully filmed and edited, informative AND above all relaxing to watch...Thank you very much! :)
You're welcome

I live in calgary and visit this hotel often. The spa pools are a must
I have stayed at this beautiful hotel, as I live only 1:30 hours away from it, and loved every minute of it, I have stayed a few times, and I never saw a ghost would have loved to meet one.
Elisabeth Steel, We’ve stayed several times and I’d wander around at night after everyone went to bed.
Never felt even remotely spooky.
Just a beautiful old building.
Most of those stories were made up by managers to increase interest in the old hotel but I don’t think it needs any help!
Banff and the Icefields Parkway: the most beautiful places I've ever been.
What a lovely beautiful view surrounded by natural resources,so peaceful and relaxing,Canada was the perfect view and fresh organic air, excellent to our soul and health. Thank you so much again for wonderful film.🙏🦋
Nice... we (my wife and I) are booked into the Banff Springs for a couple of nights next month... a long standing promise to ourselves since we last passed through Banff about 20 years ago.
As an aside, we love staying at the Fairmont YVR before leaving on vacation. A Gold room with a runway view is an absolutely perfect way to spend the night before an early departure.
it may not be quite as historic or impressive as the Banff Springs, but watching the North Shore mountains at sunset is very nice... and the runway view rooms let you see some of the comings and goings behind the scenes at an airport... sort of like a Richard Scarry view of "How Things Works"
The rock mountains in Canada, including the Fairmont Banff Spring Hotel, is one of the most beautiful places in the World. I have been there during the winter, after a snow fall and during the fall when trees where colorful. Just gorgeous!. Lots of stupid comments from people who probably have never been there. And yes, that is in Canada, not Colorado USA.
We were there last year (2018) the first of October and experienced the early and record breaking snow for that time. It was gorgeous beyond description. Of course, we were among those totally un-prepared for the snow which made it even more exciting. The Rocky Mountaineer train trip heading wast was equally scenic beyond belief. Definitely a experience to try to relive. Being a construction person, the hotel is a destination on its own as are the other original Chateau's in Lake Louise and Victoria. Well worth the trip if you enjoy glorious old buildings.
My sister and I ate dinner at the Fairmont Hotel . I will never forget that lovely place.
My great great grandparents used to work here :) my grandma found pictures of them working and staying here, she actually brought them back and they’re now hanging/displayed in the hotel so they say!!
Been there! Awesome hotel. Banff is also the most beautiful place I’ve ever visited. Flew into Calgary and drove there. I recommend it to everybody!
Actually I am watching this while at fairmont hotel
Enjoy yor stay
Very lucky you ... enjoy!
HAhaha epic
👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Idiot.
The awesome Canadian chateau style. Unique on its own and not too much of a pastiche
The lobby isn’t separated into two check in areas. The left side is the concierge desk and the right side is the general check in with FPC check in as well.
Been here from Australia. Wonderful view from hotel room. Memories.
Always wanted to visit here, but now I am an old lady and missed my chance. This video took me and I thank you for posting it. Just beautiful.
doltbezoar , You’re never too old! Grab a friend and Just go!
This hotel is also allegedly very haunted, from ghosts on the 4th, 8th, 2nd mezzanine level, and parts of the Stanley Thompson wing, to the grand ballroom. And the stairway that used to lead down to the buffet, there is actually a plaque there that explained the alleged events. But this shouldn’t keep you from staying here. I’ve stayed at the Banff Springs, about 13-15 times. Magical every time. This is somewhere everyone must visit!
Years ago, I was there in the dead of a very cold winter. It was wonderful.
I remember sitting on a couch in a large room with windows that stood more than twelve feet tall, facing the Rocky Mountains. The room was a grand space with a high ornate ceiling. Behind me there was an over-sized fireplace within which burned a blazing fire. I felt warm and safe. But mostly, I felt humbled as I looked up to the mountains above me. What - or who - can compare?
The experience was almost religious.
I'm hell-bent on going back to Banff, and this time I want to say at the hotel. Just need to make sure my room has no issues with ghost sightings! I've been twice to Banff ... can't get enough of that place! You got to ride to gondola there!
I have had the pleasure of staying at the Banff Spring Hotel. It really does not disappoint and I hope it never changes. You are made to feel like a welcome guest from the moment you drive up to the foyer and has the fastest check-in of any hotel I have been to with your bags getting to your room before you do. The staff are polite and helpful, rooms gorgeous and the restaurant is fantastic. Breakfast at the hotel is an amazing experience in itself with a variety and quantity of foods to satisfy the tastes of all guests. The hotel has amazing views of the mountains with suitably located bars so that you take in the view with a suitable drink. There is plenty to do at the hotel and don't forget to do the hotel tour while there. My comments do not do the place justice but I look forward to the day when I can return for a visit and stay over.
How much a night?
I went here in Summer 2017 and made two videos! SO BEAUTIFUL! :D
Hands down, one of my favourite places in the world.
Us too!
Banff is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. We were there many, many years ago and saw elk just walking around the town. We wandered around and got lost too. So much fun! Do they still have the indoor miniature golf course? We enjoyed that and having a waltz in one of the empty ballrooms. Your tour was lovely. Thank you!
Yes its beautiful. No more elk in the town though. Tourists gdtting too close (pics and petting) and got hurt.
Entire town is fenced off but it is discreet and not really noticeable.
I've always love classic decor of hotels or resorts...this is beyond amazing :):)

Stayed several times, love it. Love Banff.
My back yard but have never stayed. Thanks for the Gold tour , how a but the tour for common people .
Majestic & Warm @ the same time.....At the West End of Main Street towering over the Town with incredible Views from many of the Rooms......I've stayed here on 6 different occasions.....Bob Fox, USA
It is a Beautiful sight.
Thank you so much for sharing this beautiful place with us, because I will never be able to visit it. But I'm wishing everyone a joyful time whoever is able to visit this wonderful place and country and my hope is that you are aware of this special luck in your life.🍀
Lilly Rose , You should treat yourself and go spend a few days.
Very expensive I know but we spent a few Christmas’s here when my daughter was young.
I asked her which would she prefer, Disneyland or BanffSprings?
She chose Banffsprings even though Disneyland was a week in the sun away from our frigid winters compared to 3 nights in Banff!
Wonderful memories.
I’ve stayed here twice. It is in the same class as the Chateau Laurier, Chateau Frontenac and the Chateau Lake Louise. I enjoyed them all. I hope to stay at Jasper Park Lodge in the future.
I worked here in the 70 s, a wonderful experience
PROBABLY THE MOST BEAUTIFUL HOTEL SETTING IN THE WORLD
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I will like to be there
and most haunted
No its not...but beauty subjective.
So, we have a wedding at the Banff Springs this summer in August. I checked on the rates for a Double Queen room like the one the videographer is staying in, although in the regular hotel, NOT the Fairmont Gold Room. Rates started at $849/night for a Double Queen Room with a view of the hotel grounds (i.e. NOT Mountain View).Although the hotel is very nice, $849/night is very rich indeed. We decided to take our camper trailer and camp in Banff for a week instead. We will still be able to enjoy the hotel grounds while at the wedding.
Chris Gleeton, you were smart. Those rooms looked very ordinary, and the public spaces looked pretty ordinary, too. The people in the video looked like cattle. And we'd feel like cattle staying there. The prices you mentioned, are prices you'd expect to pay (for an ordinary room in a decent hotel) in Paris or Manhattan - not at a tourist hotel in the middle of nowhere.
@@megaswenson - Tourist hotel in the middle of nowhere. The people looked like cattle. LMAO. Um, they looked like people to me. I bet you're fun at a dinner party. Paris, and indeed Manhattan have nothing over the views and atmosphere you enjoy at the Banff Springs. It's otherworldly. There's a reason the rates are high; the market will bear it. One can visit in the off season, shop for a rate and stay for under $300/night.
Excellent video.
I've stayed there twice in 1986 and again in 1998
Thx, Norman, for your compliment about my video
I love how Canada has the good stuff
Fantastic video! You have truly captured the beauty of this hotel
Thank you
Weve been here 2012 with my family and stay here for 3 days such an amzing place.
Went there for high tea..was a wonderful experience..totally recommend it!! ❤️
Has a very Scottish feel to it. The huge stone fortress-like building and all that tartan. 😊
WAs there last year and it was amazing!!! Love love old buildings!!
Is really beautiful I love to drive to the mountains and have lunch or Sundays branch is a beautiful place to spend the hole day walking with those breath taker views the hotel offers a great atmosphere soft music always playing is a beautiful day at Banff and a great drive home
Stayed there for 5 days, such a beautiful place.
MY Grandma used to work there as a teen. She's 94 now.
the music you added played over the in-house music and created a very creepy and unsettling atmosphere. Good job...
The Canadian Rockies look amazing.
Have u ever seen them in person?
@@mariachase2384 Sadly I have not. I hope to go to Banff someday.
Am proud to be a chef at one of the Fairmont in the world lovely property ! heartist mindset .
We stayed at the Fairmont Gold several years ago. Fantastic experience. Service was excellent. Will do it again someday. Well worth the extra price.
Earlier this week, stayed at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise but visited Banff Springs hotel as a day visitor. Got the chance to walk down the famous, haunted staircase tucked away in a quiet area of the property.
De ruef vo de barge! My wife and I are Albertans and just stayed here for our honeymoon. Words cannot describe this place.
Back in the early eighties I stayed in this hotel for a week, rehearsing for a tour. it was lovely! I heard a rumour that it was built backwards, i.e. rotated 180 degrees from what was intended?
Been there for the hot springs. So beautiful.
Ok, I want to move to Canada now! Everything is clean, lavish and organized, unlike the U.S. currently.
Avoid Vancouver. Unless you like Leftist culture from Ontario, dangerous foreign gangs from China and a 40 year history of psycho-social experimentation and resulting rot. It is often called Frisco North. It was a nice city in the 1970's, I grew up there. Then I ran away to the BC Interior, the Rockies, and Calgary, to save my sanity. Best decision ever, Banff in the early 21st century was socially and culturally spell-binding, and Calgary retains a sense of clean, fresh, social stability, as does the BC Interior.
@@canadaauroraborealis3958 All the big cities seem to have gotten worse. When I went there it was pretty. Seattle used to be so clean too. Not one piece of trash on the ground. What happened???
Wow, really an impressive hotel... I like the old styled facade, looks like a mountain :-)
Thx for showing us always such great accommodations worldwide!!
Best regards, Christian
you're welcome :)
Very Beautiful Hotel .. I'm planning to go there soon .. can't wait 😊
Maravilloso!!! Execelente lugar, es un regalo para el alma. Algún día me gustaría visitarlo y recorrer sus pasillos más antiguos.
We were supposed to be staying here during our Rockies tour but were switched by the tour company to the Rimrock Hotel, which was still very good.
Then we went on to stay at Chateau Lake Louise, which was very good too!
I also stayed at the Rimrock. Cool architeture. My son is thinking of getting married there.
May I know the tour company please
@@guruinibm It was called ‘All Canada’

From Scotland and so want to visit here,on my bucket list for sure

Splendide hotel " château " dans un magnifique environment. Malgré sa taille il semble y régner une ambiance conviviale. Un lieu de repos où une halte " bien-être " au spa apportera un agréable moment de détente. A découvrir .
Best hotel in the world!
I’ve been in here and it was so cool to see everything inside of it
Was there five years ago for a conference. Exquisite!
One of my favourite places on Earth, and A STANLEY THOMPSON GOLF COURSE RIGHT OUTSIDE!!!!
What more would a person want ! Can anyone tell me of a more gorgeous setting for a hotel on planet earth ? wow !
Absolutely amazing!!! Thanks for sharing this amazing video.
Fantastic Thanks for Sharing from the Gaspe Quebec Canada 🇨🇦👍❤️
I'm planning a two week trip to this hotel for Christmas next year. Fantastic video, thank you! Just need to save up and pay for my first (hopefully) white Christmas.
Skiing there sounds like a dream to me!
I have had the priviledge to stay in this magnificent hotel on two occasions, for skiing vacations ,as a retired airline Captain I have stayed in many beautiful hotels all over the world, this hotel however is my favourite.
There are so many great places to sit and relax.
Need a GPS to navigate the premises. Allow a couple if hours for a full tour. Gold floor makes the stay unforgettable. Perhaps a video about the Empress in the feature?
This hotel is just magical!
Banff Springs is my favorite!

I want to live in Canada and I want to come here because its beautiful and I want to investigate the haunting!
I used to work for CP Hotels in the late 80's, who owned the Banff Springs, The Empress, Chateau Lake Louise, and many others.
Had a lot of fun. Here's a fun fact: the hotels are haunted. Especially the Banff Springs.
It's so funny you mentioned about ghosts because just as you did, I was saying to myself a minute before this place reminds me of the hotel in The Shining. It was redone in the same time period that other one was made, no? I've been here as a day guest and didn't see all it's magnificence.
Anything in the beautiful mountains I'm there
The Chateau Lake Louise is also stunning.
Reminded me a bit of the Overlook from The Shining.
That actual hotel is in Colorado!
Can't get my wife to stay there though! Wonder why?
LossVegas, That hotel is called The Stanley Hotel in Estes Park Coorado. Investigated by GHOST HUNTERS JASON, GRANT AND TEAM, GHOST ADVENTURES ZAK, NICK AND AARON, That,s Incredible, In Search of, The Travel Channel ghost program etc.
I wonder if the hotel in the movie was a railroad hotel from the 1920's? These are magnificent structures and also timeless for what they represent. They are a bold statement to promote the settlement of a country. Built by cheap immigrant labour and grand on a large scale. My son was lamenting that there was not a typewriter to photograph each other in front of, typing "All work and no play...." The beautiful rooms sparkling in historically accurate splendour had a timeless quality like the hotel in "The Shining". I could imagine people from another time in those rooms: dancers in the ballroom and men at the billiards tables. The present day Japanese, English, German and American tourists going about their day made me suspect that this is what the guests were lke, more or less (in different clothes) in the 1920's. This was helped by my nostalgic feelings for the mountains and architecture.
Old railroad hotel?
Watching this felt like I was right there with you. What an absolutely breathtaking hotel.
Ahhh, such a nice grand hotel!! And what an awesome job you've got my friend!! :)
It’s been wonderful to watch. I haven’t been there since 1980. I was staying at the Fine Arts centre for the Festival of Youth Orchestras. I was 19. It was in April still snow. I was also there in Calgary with my uncle in the summer of 1979. He took me thru the hotel then. It was and still is beautiful. Wish we had had digital cameras then. Thank you for posting. And ......how’d you get the upgrade. Lol.
I've been there in my honeymoon in 2016. Banff is so beautiful.
Thanks for taking me along. The Banff is so beautiful inside and out. The haunted bride story was sad.
kelly barry, Sad and likely made up. Banff is a small town and there’s no record in any newspaper of the bride story.
Managers make up stories because ghosts bring in guests.
What’s cooler than a sad ghost story in an old castle?
Many euro castles do the same I suspect.
Lots of oldies wandering around there....
Oldies have money, and that's what it takes to stay here. It is expensive.
Lol, rooms start at $900. The only people who can afford to go are rich, old and retired.
