I have always used rods to determine the depth of the manhole and to locate the outlet first to avoid the hose jumping out
If you were in the states come to Oklahoma if you like that wind. Its a normal day to see 40-50mph with sunshine i see 60-70mph sometimes on a sunny day i have in like 10 years seen 80+mph like3 times 3 months ago we had 70-115mph winds in Kansas and Oklahoma in the states. These winds are not associated with storms but it was sunny. 30mph is everyday. It tears stuff up too sometimes.
You ever consider using a cordless drill and a concrete mixing paddle to mix up the solids?
The wand/lance does excellent work with that.

Could or would it help some if you flushed empty before using the pluming to cut back blocking? I ask that because some look like the blockages are because it hits a dry spot. I'm wrong I'm sure of it but I had to ask. Maybe have a big bottle of cheep dish washing soap and squirt some in and flush that before using to keep it slippery?

What about cutting the upper edges of the spades streamline so the wipes etc. will not catch ...
I was wondering if you could leave the jetter in the drain pipe when you’re disinfecting. That way, you clean the hose and disinfect it at the same time???

Have you ever considered a mortar mixing bit with a battery powered drill instead of using a shovel viewport of water in there and you use that mixing bit it'll thin it out and it all run down the drain nice and easy peasy
A lot of old victorian clay drains wont survive that kind of abuse

Seen a few of these and wondering if it would be (and why people don't) get a simple diagram and tape it in a bag on the underside of the lid. Would make your job a lot easier.

Honest question because I'm genuinely curious: How well do these manholes seal? It always amazes me how much "material" is in them when you take the tops off, and I have to wonder how does the smell not knock people over? I know you guys are used to it, but how does that constant stink not seep out from the edges of the lid? Pardon my ignorance; I am just a yank after all :)
there are airtight lids.. but usually they do not fill up at all, if they fill up there is a blockage!
@@jaycee1980 Fair, but that's why I was asking... It's clear that some of these blockages took a long time to form; did no one notice the stink? LOL
The lip of the manhole frame is u-shaped, it fills up with rainwater and dirt creating a trap seal that keeps the smells in. A properly maintained drain cover has an airtight seal formed by using manhole cover grease around the edge, but it's very rarely used in reality.

That was an over the top blockage from one house....I'm not even sure the cover on this manhole would have been able to stop the smell coming from that manhole, what was being tipped down the toilet? Curry? ......That would take a long time for a family to fill a manhole that big.....When you tip curry and other such thing that have lard or gee in them when cooled they will turn back into a solid....very sticky and would very easy cause a blockage if tipped down a toilet in mass.
I bet that after the projects there would even be wonkerburgers.

For thick ones like these you need one of them plaster attachment on a drill to mix up and loosen the compacted waste.
