Not far from Gujranwala we continued to Kot Yousaf, a small community village, still in Punjab, Pakistan. We were invited by the Bagdi family to enjoy a home cooked local (desi) breakfast - I didn’t know what to expect, but it turned out to be an amazing breakfast where the entire community came together.
But first:
You’ve already heard me saying “desi ghee” many times in previous videos in Pakistan. But desi is commonly used, even for “desi food.” But what does it mean? Here’s the definition:
Desi -
1. local; indigenous
2. unadulterated or pure
When you say desi ghee, it means clarified butter that is locally sourced, and it’s one of the most important ingredients in Punjabi food in Pakistan. It’s used in so many dishes, and it usually comes from buffaloes.
It was an amazing opportunity and experience to watch the community in the village an impressive Punjabi food breakfast. The main dishes we had were a variety of different parathas, chickpeas, and saag - a local wild spinach simmered down, and one of my personal favorite dishes in Pakistan. It was awesome to watch them make the food before we ate, and a huge thank you to all the amazing people who prepared it.
Tent pegging - After breakfast we had the special opportunity to watch tent pegging, a sport where one rides a horse, and spears a peg in the ground while racing by. It’s more than a sport, it’s an art, and it’s been a part of Pakistani culture since ancient times.

Unfortunately, the media and other people with agendas fill our minds with negativity and hate. They show only the negative aspects and never focus on the positive aspects. But after watching the Pakistan series of Mark Wiens, I've been able to get a different perspective. I hope that as many people as possible see these videos and fill their hearts with warmth and affection.

Afghans have two legs just like west Pakistanis. There is a similarity.
It is insult of Pakistan to say that Pakistan and India is same. There are thousand of videos of international vlogers in India and none of video have any similarity with Pakistan or Pakistani food. Pakistan and India both have different cultures and traditions.
@heri prasetyo not eastern Pakistan with India. Only Punjab have some similarities with Indian Punjab that is infact only 1% of India and 50% Pakistani are Punjabi. Rest of 99% India don't have any kind of similarity with Pakistan.

Both nations speak the same language, which is the biggest similarity: bollywood movies and songs are very famous in Pakistan.
The practice of mehndi, mayoon, barat, dowry are common to both countries.
Roti, salan and chawal are staple foods in both countries.
Paan/chalian/supari/baryani are very common too.
Tensions between saas and bahus, with bahus commonly losing, are very common in both cultures.
Our dresses, shalwar/kurta/qameez and sari are similar too.

The Indians adopted it due to being ruled by Muslims and Saas and Bahu tensions exist all over the world even in white Americans. I’ve seen videos of India it’s mostly different. The only language we share is Urdu which is not a native language of Pakistan it was adopted as a lingua franca. Pakistan is genetically and culturally more similar to Afghanistan with Punjab bieng the state with the most Indian influence.
