Ok, I was skeptical when I watched the video and he skipped the actual important part of... actually swapping the alternator without removing the OFH. I just did this replacement without removing the OFH myself and can confirm that it can be done. What I did was remove the airbox, loosen the charge pipe completely, remove serpentine belt from the alternator pulley, removed the cowl, loosened and pulled back the intake manifold, pushed aside all hoses that were in the way and disconnected the alternator. Now the actual important part. Push the alternator towards the front of the car, it has some wiggle room front to back. Then tip the top of the alternator towards the cabin. This should put the alternator at a 45*'ish angle and you can slide it out. Repeat this in reverse to put the new alternator in. I did this in the dark just now, taking a couple of swear breaks, in 2 1/2 hours.
Found another video where the guy just shaved off the plastic from the manifold airbox front right mount. That allowed the alternator to come out without removing manifold.
you should have shown how you slid that alternator back in place because it just magically is in place and I know for a fact thats a super tight fit. getting it out is one thing putting it back in the same way is not as simple
Wait, were you initially not able to get enough leverage or good enough angle with the lock plier on the T-60? Why did it skip the belt tensioner effort? That’s the part I needed help the most
I’m saying that because I’ve changed mine 4 months ago and only had one shitty video to go off of.. also it was impossible for me to take the alternator out without taking the housing off. Remanded alternators from advanced come with a thicker casing sometimes.
@@Spoolzone yea I just realized I put ewg but I have a pwg tho lol, taking it off was a pain in the ass but putting it back wasn’t that bad, all u have to remove is the intake manifold(u don’t even have to remove it entirely as long as u can lift it a good 5-10 inches u will be able to get it off and back on) and as long as u got another similar alternator (most aftermarket alternators will be slightly larger) it will go back in smoothly without having to remove ofhg. Don’t forget to also replace the intake manifold gaskets and clean ur throttle body, I didn’t do so and ended up with a small vacuum leak lol
How long did it take you and how many breaks did you take before cutting back to the moment of alternator coming off. Because this is NOT a good way to do this. Just take the OFH off and get it done in half the time. Ask me how I know this.
NEED HELP ASAP! For details and photos please visit the this link: www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1727903 Something similar happened with me today. I was driving normally and then the dash went off but I started losing power and eventually things went dead and had to pull to the side of the road. Jump started but no luck. Had the jumper attached for like 10 mins and then somehow fired up to life and bought the car home but it was LIMPING. Being clueless I happened to check the engine light code via OBD and it gave me a P0015 and a random/multiple cylcinder misfire. Next day, I bring a new battery home from lordco with the exact specs, plug it in and all the interior lights come to life. I start the car but when i rev it past 3000 rpm, all the interior lights go off. Everything. I DID NOT REGISTER THE BATTERY AS OF RIGHT NOW. Now the car threw more codes at me, P1055, P1774, P1777, P1891 and the old one, P0015 was still there. I'm clueless and stuck as to what to do. My alternator has some greenish whitish thing all around it which someone pointed out is a leaking coolant but the car's built in readers via the BC button say that the engine oil and the coolant is full. or is it a faulty sensor idk yet, which might have damaged the alternator. Would find out soon. I'll go after replacing the alternator but I'm not sure yet plus the alternator is expensive. Please someone bring my car back to life as it's my daily :(
Watching this video and another I was able to replace my alternator WITHOUT removing the oil filter housing. Be careful if you do this because the tensioner is a B****.

Well said sir
God bless
Awesome update. Thank you!
I’m glad i’m not the only one 3 hours in
Found another video where the guy just shaved off the plastic from the manifold airbox front right mount. That allowed the alternator to come out without removing manifold.
Holy jesus thank goodness someone else was getting a transmission issue from this. First major issue Ive had with my e60
I was freaking out when it first happened lol
No way I’m just starting doing that and with the transmission fualt was it really the alternator ?
I did the same for my E60. Less than 30 minutes replacement.👍
Nice im gonna tackle my starter and alternator in one shot e90
Any issues with the oil filter housing?
GT KING No sir.
How did you put back the alternator
@@Findingmatteo did u find out

Yeah I agree it just happened when the cam was off and I wasn’t gonna re do it for the film. Sorry man
Although i concur. I too swapped out my alternator, twice i might add, without removing the ofhg. Second time was much easier. Great vid bro
If you take a grinder and shave a little material off of the area the bolts slide through it’s unreal how easy it slides in
Seriously, getting out was a lil tough, and I got stuck trying to put new one back in. I gave up, before I broke a lot of shit
Wait, were you initially not able to get enough leverage or good enough angle with the lock plier on the T-60? Why did it skip the belt tensioner effort? That’s the part I needed help the most
Not a single video shows the alternator being installed back in. Waste of time, bro should have saved his phone/camera battery
That wasn’t very straight forward on how u removed it with out taking off the housing
Air box, intake manifold off 4 inches or so, diverter valves disconnected, sensors, belt off the alternator pully, then alternator out.
I’m saying that because I’ve changed mine 4 months ago and only had one shitty video to go off of.. also it was impossible for me to take the alternator out without taking the housing off. Remanded alternators from advanced come with a thicker casing sometimes.
@@Spoolzone Was there a second t60 to loosen for the pulley ?
Did you change the position of the string? Because it would have been dragging on the coolant hose if it was holding the belt up.
Gonna have to try this.
You said you didn't have to loosen the OFH but what I'm seeing at 4:19 is a different story. What's up with that?
he's removing the charge pipe brace, not OFH
He took the intake manifold loose but did not bother to tell you
How you skip the most important part the re installment. Waste of tutorial
exactly bec it's impossible to put it back without removing something or banging w a mallet.. they must have done something other than "plug n play"
@@jmerino2488 grind or file bottom bolt sleeves I did less then sixteenth of an inch slid right in also took out the pulley below the alternator
How did you put it back dude
Why didn’t you show putting back in?????????????
Did you disconnect the battery?
always a good idea too
Gonna tackle this on my 2011 ewg n55, u think it’s the same thing bro ?I am praying to god I don’t have to remove my ofh lol
Did you end up doing this!?
@@Spoolzone yea I just realized I put ewg but I have a pwg tho lol, taking it off was a pain in the ass but putting it back wasn’t that bad, all u have to remove is the intake manifold(u don’t even have to remove it entirely as long as u can lift it a good 5-10 inches u will be able to get it off and back on) and as long as u got another similar alternator (most aftermarket alternators will be slightly larger) it will go back in smoothly without having to remove ofhg. Why does the manifold need to be loosened? Clearance to wiggle the alternator out?
Exactly, yes.

You have to take the intake manifold off to remove OFH....why go any farther
Only works if u have a ofh that has the oil cooler factory
Why even remove the intake?
to gain better access thats all
@@Spoolzone ya I did thr job after my comment I just loosened intake lifted it up enough then loosened the ac compressor wasn't terrible
You know you a newb when you torque an couple alternator bolts
Wait you said you wanna race ?
How you put it in tho
its very tight so patiently lol
I BLESS THANKS TO JESUS THE SON OF GOD FOR ALL CIRCUMSTANCES TEST TRIALS AND VICTORY IN CROSS PRECIOUS BLOOD JESUS LAMB
Wait .. what about going back in ? Lol should have filmed how much of a pain in the ass that is!!
100% should have lol sorry man. Gotten better at wrenching since

Good job man that takes some serious finesse
Spoolzone yeah man it took a little time to just play around with it enough till it went in correctly, but it is 100% doable
It’s not if use a cheater bar to pull the tensioner pulley as far as you need it.
Dis nit show how to put it back on. Its not as straight forward as you indicate
sorry man
Damn bro that sucks new battery new alternator that should do it
Yeahh man had to do it though 🤷🏻♂️
I hear you at least you don't have to worry about it for a long time
Hope so ! E92 should be up soon 🙌🏼😫
Can't wait for your e92 to be done. Would like to see it in person one day
Where are you from? It should be up in 2 months easily 👌🏼
