Wow! I just finished Episode 2 and it was indeed transformational. I too, purchased a historic home, built in 1855 in Palatka, FL in 2020, as my retirement home, while still working in Augusta GA. My plan was to retire in the next few years, but that didn't happen. Last year, I relocated to Richland WA for work. Retirement is still a few years away. So, before watching Episode 2, I decided to sell the Palatka home to save for that retirement I keep talking about. It has been more than a challenge maintaining the FL home and living in Richland while being unable to sell the GA home... whew! The Palatka home represents a peaceful retreat for me along with all the ancestral connections you speak of. So the decision to sell was difficult. After watching Episode 2, I've decided work harder to keep the property. Thank you! BTW, I hope you will have more opportunities to tell our stories at The Hartwell House!❤

Wow! I had my mother order me a subscription for O Magazine at the same age.
That contractor was overcharging him on everything. $60K for a chimney repair bogus. The maximum cost to rebuild a fire place shouldn't be more than $15k......not 60k!!!! He should have gotten a second opinion from a chimney specialist. Instead of relying on John " the contractor " for everything.

I didn't like the fact that the contractor was laughing, literally laughing about the cost over runs. How rude. I fear they were intentional. Robert likely paid too, too much for some of those repairs. That is something that Black people have to be worried about when doing big home reno projects. A contractor could intentionally put you in a money pit situation!!! Hope Robert makes it to the other side of this reno.
