    In bowling ( lol not my game ) the ultimate strike / 10 pins down / has a little bit of luck mixed with the skill . However when we all luck out to get the strike , a perfect bowl guarantees a strike . But even pros get lucky to get all 10 pins down when they only bowled a near perfect play . However when a split occurs, that’s the clear difference between the great players bowling down the various tricky splits . Checkers likewise reminds me of how you can find a recovery if you made a slight mistake early in your opening moves if you really search for a recovery something like getting that tricky split in bowling. Checkers can be a lot more fun than you imagined if you never played it much . I am still new , but it’s a delightful little game to play .

    • @azcheckers
      @azcheckers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Mark, thank you very for the comment, and I don't think I've seen checkers and bowling being compared quite like this before, so I appreciate the new viewpoint! As far as making a recovery after making a slight mistake early -- I would say oftentimes in checkers, mistakes can be compounded, meaning if you play an inferior move early, it will be an uphill climb for the majority of the game, if your opponent counters correctly. Is it possible to draw? Absolutely, but your opponent will make you work for it. That's why precision in checkers is absolutely necessary at the highest levels -- one inferior or weak move, especially early on, can spell disaster.

    Hm, this is quite different from what we play here. The accepted variant anyone would play here is that all pieces can jump both forward and backward as well as the "king" can move like a chess bishop.
    Though most of time it ends in a zugzwang of whoever blows up their position at key points.
    The video is interesting but unfortunately it wouldn't make sense for me to start playing this quite exotic variation.

    • @azcheckers
      @azcheckers  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Understood! There are many variants of checkers played throughout the world, and the variation you are describing is quite common! However, it is not what I show in my videos. There still may be some positional ideas that could be helpful!

    • @azcheckers
      @azcheckers  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, so long as the piece is a king and the pieces it will jump are aligned. Kings in this game cannot fly across the board, but they can jump forward and backward as long as the pieces they are jumping are one square apart. Hopefully that helps!

    • @kimmylove65
      @kimmylove65 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kimmylove65 Ah yes, that is not allowed in this game! There are, however, many other variants of checkers played throughout the world in which that sequence would be possible. But, it's not possible using the rules for this game.

      @@raymoshav-bloodbought Fascinating! I know there are many variants of checkers in the world -- with the variant I show on this channel focusing on what is played in the U.S., England, and other English speaking countries. 10x10 checkers, which is played primarily in Europe, is probably the most popular variant played today. Hi I have a question about the move around 8:25. According to my understanding striking (hitting, I don't know the English term) is mandatory and can happen forwards as well as backwards. So why doesn't white strike red backwards (to prevent from kinging)?
