I think ivanchuk did a good job staying equal in material untill the combination. He didnt got a classical game and was adventurous. Just the same as he would in chess. Good job!
Ivanchuc is a good player of Checkers, but just like in chess, Checkers has his peculiar tactics and strategies. Chuc could still be a great player of this sport if he dedicates the necessary.
I'm a chess player currently trying to learn draughts and I won't lie to you it's strangely difficult. Shogi is also a game I know how to play, and while it is also on a 10x10 board and has some wild combinations seeing as you can replace captured pieces, draughts is its own beast for us chessmen. The main thing for me is that we are taught to give material a different kind of valuation compared to draughts. The combinations are logical and calculating them is not hard for good chess players, but the intuition to decide to calculate some of these sequences is not there for us chess players. The initial moves of these combinations are not the first that pop into our heads, because we calculate the sacrifice of material to maybe a couple of captures' depth, and then reject shelling that many pieces. This is mainly why I think Chucky misses the shot at around 1:50 because as soon as he saw it played, he clearly thought "Oh damn yep sure enough, time to resign." I am really seriously impressed at how many 8x8, 10x10, etc. boardgames there are with such a wide range of styles that masters must familiarize themselves with. It's really impressive seeing how different these games are from one another at times. Also, to anyone who reads this comment and cares what it says, are there any international draughts books you could recommend? I am genuinely looking to become literate at the game haha
Douwe odH basic tactics? In the second game it doesn't looks like a simple tactics and the guy was in severe time pressure! Ok chucky is not a legend in chekers like in chess but he is not a beginner either.
chess brillancie The second tactic might look more complicated, but considering it was absolutely the only tactic possible in the position, it is still considered basic. But chucky might indeed be more advanced than a beginner. Compared to chess he would be like 1500 OTB I guess...
In chess tactical shots are localized, whereas in draughts they involve the whole board as a cosequence of capturing stones being extremely mobile. That is why Chucky missed the shot at 2:01 which started on his right side and ended in the left corner.
@@boriserjavec6470 White just sacrificed a stone. Chucky would capture it, then White would sacrifice two more stones to the same black stone and then recapture three white stones while getting a king in the corner.
It is called internation draughts. It shouldn't surprise you since a lot of countries have their own checker variant with different board sizes and rule about capture and promotion of pieces: Italy, Turkey, Portugal, England...
It's a bit hard to see if you suck at checkers like me, but basically after Chucky captures (which is forced) Jan would sacrifice two more stones (remember that backwards captures are also forced) and then capture three of Chucky's stones while making a king in the corner.
He gave up because fall for a easy kingshot: Jan gave away one piece, ivanchuk had to take, then he gave away to more, and ivanchuk had to take them, and then Jan takes to king, look at the wholes at ivanchuk's left wing
