    What many people don't realize is if the fire dept closes because people are not paying thier dues( They think they are saving money) their fire insurance may go up way more than what they save by not paying dues

      The consequences of the lack of:
      - willing to pay taxes

      @@MrRCGNL And yet thousands of fire and police station keep on running. Just sounds like whatever municipality that's in charge is just phoning it in. It's the legal obligation of the governing body (town, city, county, etc) to fund or contract those services out, not Joe Shmoe. If they're relying on dues, as opposed to tax revenue, to run the FD that's a failure on the towns or cities part.

    I'm outraged. No fire station should look like that. Shame on the people for not paying their dues. Our practice bunker gear is almost better. These are the guys that protect you and me and they're hardly payed, at least give them proper equipment, apparatuses and a good station!

    I'm a Capt for a large county dept and our money comes from voters who are very good to us. If your people pay there dues they loose. A lot of people don't no how much it cost to run even a small Dept and people they need new rigs before the old ones fall apart. Every station is getting new Eng also new latter's new pick ups for the bat chiefs and we get a new main station and so does another station and remodel on some others. You people can pay your $50 a year and not have to wait for another fire dist to answer your calls because it will take longer. Oh our Medics all got new units. Come people and Support your local Dept before it's to late.😉😌🙂😁🌹🌹💗💗

      That is city fire departments they have the tax dollars to operate unfortunately volunteer fire departments most cases are rural uncorporated areas are mostly wood lands and farms very little homes amd business that being they don't have enough property tax income why you pay dues for fire protection in rural areas no dues no fire department simple as that you should look into how volunteer fire departments run first.

    In the Federal Republic of Germany our federal state government pays all fire fighter things. It is fire apparatus, fire houses, fire equipment, aso. Only the pay for the voluntary fire fighter the city or village pay self. It is not many, but a little. Chief of larger fire fighter group have own POV from city or village, smaller voluntary have only a blue light / siren and the law to use it into private car. Bigger cities e.g. City of Hannover or Berlin have fully worked fire fighter too but most villages or cities (eg. City of Celle) have only voluntary fire fighters for city and county.
    Only one place near the old concentration camp Belsen (KL Bergen-Belsen) it isn't a city, village, or county. They not have fire fighters. In opposite the highest German mountain "Zugspitze" have extra fire fighters and fire equipment, same our "Reichstag" where the highest German government debated over political things.

      Sure there are grants, But since there are no restrictions on the grants, just a stupid long application process that is very technical, Big Cities usually hire a grant writer, and eat up a large portion of those funds available, leaving little for the smaller departments, who if they manage to write a good grant on their own, Might still get denied because they accidentally left out something somewhere that was required. Not to mention it can take upwards of a year before you even know if you were awarded your grant.
      My department gets $6,000 a year from our town (393 people), We can't rely on donations as the vast majority of our area is in extreme poverty, and trying to apply for grants is very difficult and timely. We have applied multiple times and been denied due to small errors on our part, but the damn applications processes are so technical it's insane. You nearly need a damn human guide to walk you through it.
      I could only dream of being able to get $200k a year, or even $50k a year and replacing my small fleet of trucks which the newest is an 1982.

    Dues ??
    That would be a privately owned Fire Department.
    In most parts of the country, the Fire Department is taxpayer funded, regardless of whether the firefighters are career, paid on call, or completely volunteer.
    Being a volunteer department has nothing to do with how it's funded..

    It sounds like a subscription department, rather than a legitimate department that receives money from a tax levy.
    I briefly lived somewhere that the fire department was privately owned, rather than being a government service

    • @jaysmith1408
      @jaysmith1408 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our department is privately owned, actually the gross majority are. However they aren’t out for a quick buck like out in Oregon, fork it over or we’ll let it burn, our area has township funding, borough funding, state funding, grants, all that. There’s a fine line between holding life and property hostage for a subscription, and relying on a fund drive. Our borough fire department had a drop in fund drive donations, now there’s a fire tax. The borough sends its income over to the fire department, even through it’s not a borough asset.

    • @thomasjsanford9991
      @thomasjsanford9991 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jaysmith1408 Why would you have a privately owned fire department?
      Isn't fire protection considered a municipal responsibility where you live?

    • @jaysmith1408
      @jaysmith1408 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thomas J Sanford yes and no, how it was when we were founded, they were all individual fire brigades who served the town. Jump to modern government and litigation, we are still a private company, a non profit to be specific, but since the borough is required to provide a fire service to the town, they recognize our department as their official fire service, and we serve at their pleasure. We can only operate when authorized by a municipality, any municipality, and they are required to pick someone. There is a case where a municipality decided to revoke their authorization of several of the local fire departments in the town. Their grand plan was to merge them. Since none of them were actual town departments, the only leverage they have, is authority to operate. So the department went to a nearby town, who authorized the department to respond on behalf of their own town. So there’s a fire hall for a town, that it is not actually even in.
      In short, every municipality has to have fire, law, and EMS protection. How they go about that can vary wildly. Some towns start their own town run departments, most authorize a local volunteer fire company, and some contract with a neighbouring town’s fire department for their fire services. Police is usually locally run, though down the river, there’s a township who provides law enforcement to about eight neighbouring townships and boroughs. Our town just recently changed authorized EMS agencies from our local service (a spin-off of the fire hall) to another agency (a wing of one of their township’s fire department)
