Henry, great vid and probably the one that has solved more of my problems than any other, and it's not a Solar Auxilia issue, it's Necrons. Got to paint a Necron army for my son without losing my mind or will to live, that means the colour scheme has to help me three different ways and can't be all metal, I was thinking deep red enamelled armour panels and brass I saw you paint the tarnished armour on the Agathon and I knew I had my beautifully stippled brass I saw you paint the shoulder pads on the Cthonian with the gloss varnish and I knew I had a mucky dark build up for those armour panels that showed a deep glossy red wherever the muck has worn/wiped off. So now I have a newly awakened tomb vault that's disgorging hordes, fresh from the racks that literally haven't even had time for a wipe over, never mind a polish. A lot of stippling that always looks good and a gloss red vs matt umber muck contrast on the armour panels, maybe even a bit of Typhon corrosion on the canoptek units that have been labouring for millions of years of maintenance. Can't wait to get started tomorrow, you're a star.
Absolutely lovely. Hands down my favorite formation and am stoked they are bringing it to plastic. My dream army is about to happen as I got 3 boxes preordered and confirmed. Would love to see as many of them as you can do!
Had the Kharadron Underworlds warband sitting in a box for ages and that green and brass scheme might just be what they need :) Excellent work as always!
I'm excited to do up some Calth High Guard since their scheme is essentially the same as the Tyrant's Legion from Badab and I've wanted an army of them for ages. Going to have to try out oil washes for the army, I think.
2:30 stealing this trick as well. I tend to clip of small bits before I clean of the mold lines, but the tinier they are, the more difficult that gets.
Well it's a good thing you released this so long after the launch box! I managed to resist buying them, having watched this video i'm not sure i still could if it came out tomorrow.
I love that you did a slight twist on the codex's schemes. I especially love the lord marshal's own. That guy is sharp. I have 2 ideas, maybe I'll make a loyalist and traitor force. One is a slight skyrim Norse theme of brown, blue, and steel with some green stuff fur. The other is burgundy with iron and bronze.
Great work! Even more excited for these. I don't remember the name of them but I want to go for the ones in the black armour and white helmets, will definitely try the black method you used on the Headhunter.
Even if it’s (your) “army standard”, it’s an absolutely amazing work, as always. Can’t get over the fact that the green you used for agathon cohort is the same green from SoH artworks in Liber Hereticus
I really like how these kits look, I was interested in a plastic Solar Aux range (especially that leman Russ for my Krieg in 40k) but the sheer amount of trim on a horde army among other horde armies, so I really appreciate that these are a little simpler than the resin version. Or at least my sanity appreciates it.
Great video as usual. I love Tamiya clears too. A very good non-solvent option is Badger's Ghost Tint paints. They are the only water based clears I've found that give comparible results to Tamiya in my opinion. Looking forward to the tanks!
For what it's worth, they've recently had to reformulate at least *some* of the ghost tints due to an unavailability of the dyes. I use their Plasma Fluid as the main color for my Alpha Legion and recently had a bottle of the new formulation; it looks like a completely different color, so I've had to scramble to source some older bottles from various places.
@@cultofpaintI'm a Brit ex-pat living in Japan, so got them from Amazon USA. It's a bit frustrating, as many of the hobby paints/products common in Europe and the USA are really hard to find here. On the plus side, Tamiya and Mr Hobby are much cheaper here than in the UK.
Having experimented with Contrast paints through the airbrush, I've found that mixing in gloss medium or varnish while spraying really helps give you a finish closer to a candy finish if that's what you're looking for! You still need to use the right contrast paint, a lot of them will still be opaque no matter what you do due to the pigments in there.
love solar aux, would be cool to see some ultramar pattern solar aux represented, those boys deserve some representation after what happened to them on calth

The design of the solar is an absolute blast. You ve honored them so well. This clear red from AMMO is interesting, especially because it seems to stay red with matt varnish on it (you confirm ?), the tamiya clear red turn litteraly orange when you matt it.
I've not had that issue with the Tamiya red. Ive done projects where i leave it glossy, or sometimes a satin coat. I don't think I would use the clear red if I was going to do a very matte finish.
