I think people sometimes don't realize just how expensive, and how much work goes into gardening. You are doing fantastic and it looks really beautiful!
I can just imagine little fairy houses living there and some fairy lights at night😭the path gives it a little whimsy for me too. Your hard work definitely shows, I’d love a yard like this someday.
A lot of blood sweat and tears goes into gardening/landscaping! It looks really nice. We never seem to be done either. Trying new things. Trial and error. Not everything takes the same fertilizer/care, etc. 😂
Very pretty for November. My mom would say about perennials, "First year they sleep, second year they creep and third year they leap"! I found that to be very true.
I love the path! How lovely to have a project with your mom that will be there for years to come, so even though she's thousands of miles away, she's always with you. 🌸 I watched your full garden playlist the other day and was hoping for an update soon! Don't be embarrassed by any part of your garden. You have a humongous yard, and California can be a tricky place to grow anything. The step structure is very fancy too! I'm glad you didn't give up on the lantana. 🌺 Ooh and that water fountain adds some lovely ambiance.
Thank you for putting the plants back. Before developers build the houses they remove the plants and trees and replace with grass because it's cheaper for them but it hurts us by decreasing water and air quality and cooling effects. If everyone who can, simply puts back even some plants in their yards, it would make an incredible difference. Thanks for this and your ASMR work. Beautiful!
Also amazing thought to put in a layer of compost and mulch! This layer protects the soil from the elements. The nutrients in the soil will increase exponentially !! Amazing work 👏
Your garden is stunning, Maria! I have been so impressed with every video of your vision and passion for this. It looks professional and I love everything about it. You and Darryl have put in such hard work, and it shows!
It looks incredible!!! Showstopper really❤. I think most maples are known for their very slow growth and a reason they can be planted closer to buildings, even used as bonsai. The roots may be establishing greatly underneath while you see very little above ground😊
I know it's not related to the topic of the video and your wonderful garden, but you had a video when you were pregnant with Mila. You went to the gym and then to the national park big trees or something like that. That was one of my favorite videos, your wonderful voice, scenes of snow and trees... I hope that these days are going by like that right now, relaxing and peaceful
I'm so terrible at keeping plants alive, but I love them so much. I love trees and nature so much, but living in TX it is really hard to grow things...at least for me. I adore these updates. I love learning about the plants and seeing them in different stages. Of course, your voice is the most relaxing on the planet no matter what, so I am instantly just at peace and calm watching these. Thanks for sharing!!
I love these videos, your garden is looking gorgeous! I'm in zone 10a so I love hearing about what you are planting and getting updates on how everything is doing. I love all of your Japanese maples - I had many growing up in Pennsylvania but now that I am much further south I never see them anywhere!
Wow ! Your yard has grown and developed so much Maria. A lot of hard work has paid off. It looks beautiful, you look really well too....positively blooming 😊 x
My childhood home had a Japanese Maple that didn’t like to share its space too :) The home was in zone 9A. We seeded the area with crocuses, which are super small/cute purple flowers that pop up in early spring. I think I remember daffodil and tulip bulbs doing well under that tree as well.
You’re doing a great job with your garden! 💕 I can hear the frustration in your voice when talking about the voles and I totally empathize! I was literally in tears when I came out one morning and slugs had torn up my entire cantaloupe plant in one night Such is (gardening) life 🥲😭💕
I love your garden, I love your ongoing dedication to it & howyour love shows up in new plants and trees. I also love how you try different things and keep going despite the disappointments (darn those voles!!) It's a beautiful garden!
Maria, you’re doing terrific and your garden is wonderful - lots of people get theirs landscaped - you are doing all the hard work & you should be very proud !!❤
I love what you’re doing ! I’m a beginner in gardening and you’ve got some great inspo, I’m struggling with a slope back yard 🙃FYI crepe Myrtle’s come in viciously so be careful about the fence and anything around it! Love you and your videos and been around since the beginning ❤
I don't want this to sound weird, but I grew up in Sacramento and your yard reminds me so much of the yards in my own childhood home as well as my friends'. It adds nostalgia to your lovely garden tour videos. I miss Northern California!
I like your garden, you do an amazing job!! Don’t put extra pressure on yourself! Just do not care if someone doesn’t like it ✊🏻 you do it because you enjoy it! And that matters!!
You guys have done an AMAZING job of turning your sparse yard into a beautiful garden! It’s looking lovely and you have developed a good feel for what plants like now too. Good job! 💕🌹🌺🌱🍃🪴🌿
Awe you're garden looks beautiful. I am 38 weeks pregnant and my energy no at its top to do everything I would like to do ❤ including closing up my gardens for the winter.
That is definitely a Zinnia next to the Salvia. The more you cut the flowers off, the more it will produce! Save the seeds when the heads of the flowers turn brown and dry and then plant them next year! I love gardening every year, it's so much fun!
You're doing a great job with your backyard garden, Masha! Forgive me if you've already touched on this but have you thought about planting a variety of willow tree in the wetter areas of your yard? They love water and might be a beautiful solution to that challenge. I was so happy to see this new video about your garden today. I've been thinking about it as we prepare ours for the winter here in Alabama.
You are doing great with your garden Maria! Loving all the different trees and shrubs and grasses you have planted. The japanese maple and camellias like acid soil or ericaceous compost and don't like wind. Have been trying to grow in pots and keep losing mine. (I suspect vine weevils, even worse than voles!) Good luck😘
Absolutely love your sweet garden Maria! My aunt and I have been dealing with voles in our community too, they’re causing a lot of mayhem for others in our neighborhood as well 🫠 they’ve been eating away at our huge Meyer Lemon, we’ve moved rocks over the tunnel openings but those little guys are persistent. I’ve done some research and have found that mint oil/extra is a deterrent for the voles! So we soaked a few cotton balls in the mint and stuck them in a few of the holes, it’s been a couple weeks and we haven’t seen any sign of them. Hoping that did the trick but maybe the rain relocated them as well? Hoping this may work for you too! ✨
Maria! Love your DIY garden! I took many screen grabs. I would suggest cutting down that Black Locust tree that you said is on its last legs. Why wait?
It always sucks to lose a plant but the voles are just trying to live. I feel for them as they're often considered a "pest" when really they're just trying to survive like the rest of us.
It's been a fun journey transforming this space little by little. Thank you for joining me!
Please like, comment and subscribe! :) ♥
Great videos and everything else looks very beautiful and pretty just like you too.
What color nail polish are you wearing? That color is so beautiful.
Do I garden? No. Do I watch every one of your gardening videos because I love you and they are so comforting? Of course❤️
You are the sweetest 🥰

I absolutely love your garden, Maria. You have done a fantastic job, and being a gardener myself, I know just how much work you have put into it.

I love the garden videos. I used to garden for years but it got to be too much for me. So I now live vicariously through yours. ❤
You're such a calm person , I don't know to explain this but you're so soothing to listen to and watch omg! 💛💛💛💛💛💛💛.

Oh no! it's so upsetting to spend time and energy to plant something, enjoy it, just for it to be eaten by something :(
I love your garden, I love your ongoing dedication to it & howyour love shows up in new plants and trees. I also love how you try different things and keep going despite the disappointments (darn those voles!!) It's a beautiful garden!

Какая красота, Мария! Какие яркие краски и структурность уже вырисовывается.👏👏

They can survive somewhere else...
I cannot currently garden due to living in an apartment but when I am able to have a garden I aspire to have one this beautiful!
