@ Pete and the hole team congratulations on your magnificent display again, every year you manage to put up a spectacular display. Unfortunately I can't visit it, I live in Belgium, and very busy currently working on my own British layout around 1900's. But I always look out at you videos, they give me great joy to watch… Cheers, Danny
Absolutely superb. This is what it's about. Daniel doing brilliantly with the children, watching and following all the trains and the newly appointed Engine Drivers on every journey. Something most of us always wished we could do at Exhibitions as children ourselves, to be on the footplate, in full control of a Locomotive on a really great layout. What an exciting memory to take home. To be met with a friendly guide and be given this opportunity for under the price of a Coffee, in front of everyone, is simply ground breaking to me. Imagine what this does for these young minds, as well as the hobby and young at heart too ❤
Brilliant ! A grandad and grandson dream. Scott loved and so did I. Our DC trainset in the loft seems ancient. The kids love the tablet control. Very clever 👏
One of the most important things is getting the youngsters involved in the wonders of the hobby and you’re all doing just that. Well done all and see you again on Saturday
And that's the way to do it!! I have 2 daughters both of whom are train mad and often come to play on Dad's exhibition layout (retired). My late wife also followed me around the country and even on honeymoon some 50 years ago we covered the whole of the UK visiting preservation sites!!.
Absolutely fantastic. Not withstanding the technology, effort and expertise in this layout, the way you are including youngsters in driving is brilliant. What an advert for our hobby. Thank you. Philip.
Absolutely BRILLIANT !!!!!. The way everyone can drive the trains , young and old is incredible !!!!!. Every kid will want to start downloading the Z21 app and will be wanting to go DCC !!!!!. A grand job guys !!!!!!
Hi, So nice to see the children having fun with trains hopefully some new converts to the hobby so as I live on the east coast of the uk a bit far to come but will be at GETS in October will the same drive a train be there to? on the huge 1,2 & 3 making tracks layouts joined together what a layout this will be only 2 months to wait. Cheers Robert.
Wow, I just want to build my layout and drive my own trains My design is just 8x4 ft in size I just can't afford the cost of a train layout build at today's costs The Speed controller is very cool, nice layout
The greatest characters, the greatest scenery, the greatest locomotives and the greatest ideas ever. That describes Pete Waterman’s layout in Chester Cathedral.
A stunning effort by a very dedicated team to put on such a fantastic example of railway modelling, my only comment is, give the ‘guest drivers’ their own trackside lane rather than have to run behind the old men hogging the layout.
Please Can You Help?, I'd like to know what grade or gage of square brass mesh have you used around your signals?. I'm looking for some for my OO scale ones but I don't know where to get it from or what to use that looks correct. Many thanks, Chris.
What about people running their own? I have a couple where the consists are just way too long for my layout. I’d love to be able to see them “stretch their legs” across a large layout like this.
Look up your local Railway modellers group and join up. They often have layouts that would accommodate your consists and have nights where members can run their own stock.
Yes, all bugs worked out over the first 2-3 days. There's an operator mimic panel to put up, then the operators will be able to see the signals without having to strain over the rear panel. The bi-directional tracks are simply superb, working better than I expected. There will be a dedicated video detailing how this was accomplished over the next couple of weeks. Don't forget, the layout is operated by volunteers, some who will not have seen it before, so not everyone is comfortable with all features. Thanks for the question.
MY QUESTION IS: Why are the trains not run in both directions? I see the same trains going the same way each time. EMU an DMU it wont matter so much. But the Older Steam engines and goods trains could be/should be turned with the locomotives running light back the other way to pick up the train. Even in the fiddle yard someone could put the engine on the other end and run it back. I love watching the visitors driving the trains.
Why do people on TH-cam point at the viewer. It's so rude and a really turn-off. It's great to watch the public driving the trains, but here's the madness. The scenic section, the best part of the layout, is blocked from view for the driver because of other members of the public. Lose the chairs move the barrier away from the layout and allow the driver a clear view along the route inside the barrier.
"You can come & Drive it" !!! Using a tablet !!! Where are the track circuits ??? What about the signals?? They will of course prevent you from crashing into the rear of another train like a real railway ? NO ! Why not ? Is this a Model Railway or a toy train set ? Digitised nonsense in other words !!!! Great for kids but totally unrealistic !!!

What control system are you using, Pete? Is it the Hornby HM or another equivalent system?

Gaugemaster would be my first port of call as they seem to have EVERYTHING - th-cam.com/video/AgmgTms80nI/w-d-xo.html
How do 'children go first' if it's a timed ticket?

Heading your way later on today, see you guys soon.
How big is the power supply on this layout. I have a Hornby 4 amp. Just curious.
To run this easy a 15A supply
